Welp, that's kinda abusing the system because the videos weren't misleading. Or spam.

Wow they finally took it down. And yeah, I hate that the system is so easily abused.

To put things in perspective, there are many individuals who spend upwards of $100 on pixelated items for their virtual avatars on sites like Gaiaonline. Looking from the outside in, you might think it's a foolish waste of money on something you ultimately don't even own if the site shuts down, but these people deem it to be money well spent because they get enjoyment out of it. It's ultimately a very personal thing regarding value. Developers shouldn't feel like they need to tick off boxes if it's outside of their vision for the game or if it would be detrimental to their main goal during development. It's okay if you don't think it's worth the $60, but it's just an incredibly fruitless argument to have.

Wasn't the game delayed like 5 times already?
The trolls are out in full force.

I don't know, Shadow of Mordor and Dying Light were new IP, and people seemed to really like those games.

I can see those games getting sequels; can't say the same about The Order

... didn't cost sixty dollars.

Also, it wasn't weighed down with sub-par story/cutscenes.

So what is par? What is the standard for cut scenes that The Order should be held against?

I remember he was upset about the #ps4nodrm thing. Dude chugs the Haterade.

Is it the same guy who was supporting Gamergate as well? lol.

That said, I think it's quite disappointing with the criticisms I'm hearing.Probably going to try take it slow and set in on hard hoping it's going to increase the length and make it more interesting. Rapier's comments just made my heart sink especially since it's the best thing I was looking forward to.

I also find these youtube video's to be incredibly lazy to be honest.

Doesn't say it's specifically because of it being "misleading" or "spam," those are just general reasons why the video may have been taken down, not the exact reason(s) why.
Well it says due to. The youtuber wasn't exactly under NDA or playing copyrighted music.

As someone neutral on this game (I'm interested, although if it really is under 6 hours I'll hold off for a price cut) I gotta say looking at how rough this thread has been that if this doesn't get at least decent reviews, the review thread is going to be a bloodbath.

To be clear, I'm judging this based on writing. Visually, The Order is outstanding. The cutscene work is technically astounding, but still nothing great from a cinematography perspective. Simply put, if I'm weighing this against sitting down and watching something else for a few hours - this isn't as good as most scripted entertainment. Held against the standards of TV, film, and even other AAA games - I'd say it's weaker than the average. This is coming from watching ~1hr of the playthrough.

And the reactions to it are overblown.

There are certain things you just don't joke about. Like videogames. Does he not know the emotional investment some people have in this game they have not played yet? Show some basic human empathy.

I'm with him on the argument that a game doesn't need to be long to be good. If a game provides a really focussed experience over 5 hours, I'd find that preferable to a game that is needlessly long. Ubisoft games are packed full of content which makes them take many hours to fully 'complete', but most of that content is pointless filler.

The only issue I'd have with the MW comparison is that MW is 5 hours of pretty much uninterrupted gameplay. From what I have seen and heard of The Order, it seems a large chunk of the game are cut-scenes. I appreciate that it is being marketed as a 'cinematic experience', but I can also appreciate why a lot of people would be put -off at the idea of paying full price for a 5 hours long game, where a large percentage of that are cut-scenes.

Would you actually spend $60 on a 5 hour game?
Also, comparison to COD is stupid. Those game had way more content and replayability than any game out there (the MP)

this thread has gotten very bad

Seriously Fuck Off!

Understatement. Half the people in here don't even have fucking PS4's and have no intention of buying the game. It's become cool to make fun of The Order and talk bullshit about it.

I have a Ps4 and hope it's a great game. That said, this isn't just about console warriors. It's also people who don't like the cinematic trend in gaming. And given the degree to which this game incorporates and mixes cinematics in with gameplay, going as far as to letterbox gameplay, The Order 1886 is these people's fucking Waterloo.

Yes but mostly good reviews I think will make for a less brutal thread, as people determined to tear it down will mostly just be laughed at in the face of 8s and 9s.

Should this get more 6s and 7s though....uh oh.

All full price, single player only games. All "short". All great.
All with skippable cutscenes and have interesting gameplay systems that encourage multiple replays

I don't appreciative the scare quotes in the title. I am actually concerned. I worry that (if the title is successful, of course) publishers and developers may get the idea in their collective heads that a 5 hour single player game, with no multiplayer component, at the $60 price point is acceptable.

If he does spend $60 on a 5 hour game then so what? Its his cash, his choice.

I don't understand this trend of questioning how others chose to spend their money on games or gaming related products.

If you feel its not worth the money then that's your choice, but don't act like someone else buying it at full price is forcing you into doing the same.
