Saw the Imax experience yesterday. Man those last two episodes of last season totally blow me away every time I see them. So fucking amazing, even better in imax.

The trailer was my favorite kind of trailer. It showed so much that I can't wait to see, yet I don't really remember any details from it, and while watching it I had no idea of the context of anything in it either.

I wanted to read some more opinions on the trailer so I searched for the thread about it. And that was a mistake. I didn't notice any unmarked spoilers, but there were a lot of awful posts. I'll stick exclusively to this cozy thread (and the eventual Season 5 one) in future.

After watching all the episodes again.. Wasn't Loras accepted into the Kingsguard after the defense of Kings Landing?

How's he suppose to marry Cersei? I dont believe the show has touched on if he's still in the Kingsguard and if not.. why?

Very LTTP but only just watching season 4 ready for the GoT exhibition at the O2 next week.

Just watched episode 8... god fucking DAMN IT! I was convinced Oberyn was going to win that! The fight started, and it was pretty clear that his speed would ease him to victory... then he kept repeating those same lines and then it dawned on me what was going to happen, but oh god, the way he died...! Fuck. I really liked Oberyn! :(

I just don't get why Oberyn did that, I mean, it was dramatic, and clearly he wanted revenge, but why did he think that Gregor would say that Tywin told him to do it? And did he really think he was safe standing so close to him? God damn it.

This show is so fucking depressing and I hate it.

This image appeared on the internet a few weeks before the episode was aired, along with other promo shots of the two of them. We had no idea what was going on and thought they were just goofing around. Oh my.

One of the most memorable moments from the season, imo. Really disturbing moment. I saw a few reactions of it on Youtube, which was pretty funny though.

I want to know one thing, and one thing only.

Please PM, please be nice, no spoilers. Please.

I read the first book, then watched the first season. They were both wonderful. I really want to watch GoT. Like bad. My wife wants to talk about it.

Basically I'm not at a point right now that I can read em all, I can watch em all. Am I fucking it up by watching and then reading? Is this going to ruin something really good?

I'm not going to check this thread again cause I'm too scared of spoilers...please don't ruin anything. I just want some opinions PM'd my way: I want to watch the series and then one day read it, is this going to screw stuff up. Is it a bad idea? Should I read before watching further? Again Book 1 (done) season 1 (done). Again don't PM if you are going to drop spoilers, I'll cry.

i think most people feel that you'll improve your experience by watching then reading because the books are generally an additive experience rather than a reductive one.

No problem at all. Watching first is perfectly fine.

Heh, I guess on hindsight this is incredibly spoilery, but I don't think anyone really could have guessed what happened unless you read the books. In my incredible nativity I actually thought to myself "oh, so he still kills him, but he's going to be blind"... nope

Agreed, very disturbing. Hit me just as hard as Ned Stark in season 1 I think. The Red Wedding is apparently the most shocking but I already knew that was going to happen which massively took away the impact of the scene for me, and just made it frustrating "don't do that, it's clearly a trap!" etc.

We're watching season 1 again now and there's lots of foreshadowing already. Don't trust the Frays! Or the Boltons! And yet they did :(

Wow, guys, I'm normally very fearful of spoilers, so I refrained from checking out ANY internet discussion since I was spoiled by an idiot on RW way back in frigging season one. Book reader of course (feed him to Arya). So I was watching the fourth season when I decided to be a little bolder and checked put the GAF no book spoilers thread for the first season and have now read through all of them.

Kudos to the mods and fair participants, great work there. This is the way to go, really. I can't actively post unfortunately since I'm only able to watch after another 8 months or so when it airs on TV here. But after that, I'll read the next thread with delight for sure. Love all those gifs and videos that would be impossible to look for yourself without getting spoiled, especially casual shots of the actors. Those pics with Headey and Pascal were incredibly stylish. Also people on the beach, Hipster Bran, etc. Very nice.

So I'm a fan of the show of course. Not perfect, but very very enjoyable, with a whole lot of great characters. Jaqen is my man, he's the ultimate badass. Please drop the face changing thing retroactively so they can keep the actor if he shows up again. j/k Otherwise put me in the Arya camp. I also liked Tywin really much (RIP, not like this, heh) and also Bran for his connection to the supernatural. So both Stark kids have slow moving stories since they're very likely to be in for the endgame, but I don't mind at all. Cool scenes with both of them, especially Arya of course. Her story developed exactly how I like it. Her actions are totally that old testamentary justice thing, pretty cool. The Hound stole the money of that farmer because "he was alread dead", so she did the same to him. Polliver's case was 1:1 of course, but even that Frey man from S3... she didn't like what they did with Robb's neck, so she made the neck of that dude a little uglier as well. A bit far-fetched, I know, lol.

Acting is mostly great, but Charles Dance stole the show. Maisie Williams is great, but honestly, any actor worth a salt would be sucked right into that character. I don't want to talk bad about actors, but Harrington and Clarke could improve, also the former already did so a bit. :) Sophie Turner was a really nice surprise. The scene where Loras talked about what he likes to see at a wedding but forgot the bride was awesome. Would be great to have a gif of that.

The political intrigue and the no one is safe concept also really clicked with me. I love how they still manage to surprise me after RW. Going in the fight of Oberyn with the mountain, I totally expected him to lose. But then was astonished how well he fought and I was like "Oh, wow, he really might have a cha... fuck!" Great fight, but The Hound's with Brienne was better, the best in the show actually, so tense. I know, there was a discussion in the thread about fantasy vs intrigue, but I like both. It's like different people rooting for different characters in the show. There's something for everyone, but someone will always find a reason to complain. Too bad some interesting characters that are not really b/w or "weak" like Sansa or Theon kind of fall through the roster with most people although being the better meat for good stories. The only real gripe I have with the story is that the whole Essos part is so separated from the rest and the Winter threat moving so slowly, but this could change now.

Looking forward to the next seasons. I hope the White Walkers turn out to be sentient and enter the game in some different way. Also, the tree dude looked kind of fishy to me. There were two possibilities I thought about how the future would be nice to play out. One was the forming of a cool and powerful party, Berserk style, but that's already out, I guess. The other is the most probable thing, the fire / ice war, it's just unknown how it'll play out. I have the strong feeling that supernatural forces are already choosing their human champions. I've only seen one guy in the threads suggesting the same idea but what if Bran and Arya became enemies? Would be pretty awesome! :)

Sorry about the bump and wall of text. I hope I haven't offended anyone with the strange timing of my post. Have a lot of fun with the upcoming fifth season!

Edit: Oops thread moved on, while I was writing the post, lol.

Speaking of Oberyn and the duell... what's up with
The Mountain? Did he survive?

They showed a scene where he was given some sort of potion by a Maester. He wouldn't be the same guy they said though. So who knows in what kind of shape he's gonna live.

are we supposed to still spoiler tag stuff like this?

No.

- Regular TV thread rules apply:

- Once something airs in the US on the East Coast, it's fair game. Feel free to discuss anything that has aired without using spoiler tags.
- Anything that hasn't aired yet should be spoiler tagged including information from HBO previews, loglines, trailers, interviews, and a few other places.
- Speculation from people that haven't read the books is fine and encouraged.

4 discs this time? Seems like they didn't skimp on the extra features or audio/video quality so I'll take that as a plus. The only negative I see is that they couldn't get Brandon's actor on the commentary this time with Sansa and Arya. That was always my favorite track.

I haven't re-watched any of season 4 since it went off the air so I'm looking forward to the Blu-ray release almost as much as season 5.

Nothing to apologize for. If Jaqen comes back I hope it's the same actor as well. I don't see any reason he can't go back to his season 2 face.

Seeing what happened to The Mountain is one of the biggest questions I have right now. It's also been a book spoiler I've been most careful about avoiding.

The "obvious" thing to me is that he'd become an even bigger and more savage / inhumane brute somehow, but I'm hoping they try to go for the opposite - somehow turning The Mountain into some tame, docile, harmless person. It would be hilarious if only to see his actor act that way :p

I personally hope that
the hound is somehow still alive
:(
Well,
we didn't see him die. Which is usually a telltale sign in the GOT universe. Then again we thought we saw the Mountain die but they're doing what they can to bring him back. Who knows. Maybe season 5 will open with Hound being found by a wandering villager child and will be nursed back to health? Either way we'll probably never see our favorite duo again.
<--Only spoilers if you haven't really finished season 4, in which case why are you here? lol

I am really hoping that the Mountains confessions during the duel has ramifications once the news travels back home.

Well the trailer for season 5 shows Jaime in Dorne and plenty of new Martell's have been cast. He may have been sent there to try and smooth things over.

Spoiler tag is for folks avoiding the trailers and pre-release coverage for season 5.

Things I am looking forward to in the new season:
Who gets appointed as the new Hand?
What role with Cersei have as the head of House Lannister and will she continue to be daft politically.
Will Stannis the Mannis take action against House Bolton while they prepare for the potential invasion of the White Walkers?
Will Winter actually come?

Just marathoned 10 hours of Season 4. First time watching this season. Quite amazing! Wish I was part of the zeitgeist water cooler talk when it happened.

Couple of quick thoughts on future based on Season 4:
Sansa is dumb, but I think she will play the "game" well with Littlefinger's tutelage. This will make me hate her a lot!
Arya is best "hero" standing and that scares me, cause this show deals in suffering.
The characters in Kings Landing are fewer and that kind of stinks cause that is the most interesting place.
A Frankenstein Mountain would be even more dangerous, uncontrollable, and bloodthirsty than the original. How would they stop him? Who would he kill before then?
Oh, and Joffrey's death was underwhelming. I wanted more!

I got the Lancaster edition from Best Buy. The bonus disc which looks at special effects is pretty cool, but only 24 minutes long.

Now to watch the first commentary.

I wouldn't want wait to pay extra and wait longer, though.

In the first part of the episode 2 commentary GRRM mentions that he wanted the whole of the episode to be the Purple Wedding, but that they needed to fit some other scenes in the beginning since they only do 10 episodes a year. He said he would prefer more room to breathe, but that GoT was the tightest show on TV.

I find this hilarious considering I once posted a random/clearly photoshopped "funny(?)" image of Sophie and Maisie involving a cucumber and immediately people jumped on me asking me if I had just posted spoilers. Like, I couldn't even imagine a context in which such a pic would be a spoiler, yet this one (which we should've all seen coming btw) kinda was and no one realized it at the time.

Yeah but writers tend to have a strange sense of pace unfit for live adaptations. We all saw what happens when Stephen King is given the freedom to make his own scripts.
