Tales of Zestiria pops up in Steam database

I assume because of the seamless battle/world setup? Figured that'd be inevitable, surprised I didn't see many posts easily in the IMport thread, though I didn't look that hard and maybe enough were grounded enough to know how unrealistic it was to expect 30 while still being on PS3.

I do hope that's indicative of a PS4 version. But hell, even if not this is a positive step to getting stuff elsewhere period.
I wouldn't assume new hardware means better framerate.

ToS was 60FPS on the Gamecube and 30FPS on the PS3.

That's because it was a remaster of the PS2 version.
It's still a valid point though. Look at games made for last gen, ported to the next, and kept 30 FPS or at least failed to hold 60. It's a HOPE that they go 60 fps on PS4 (and if they're doing a good PC port it's a very real possibility!) but even with good porting they could instead go "we could hit 60 fps with those graphics... OR ratchet them up and make it look more awesome at 1080p/30fps!" and run with that latter option.

Are the Tales games self-contained or do I have to read up on the prior entries before playing this one? I get the impression from this thread that Vesperia was the best in the series, is this accurate?

It has the best cast BY FAR (Yuri is one of the best JRPG protags ever) and the best world. When it comes to the battle system the majority of people prefer the Graces battle system, I'm one of the weird people who likes Vesperia's more.

Great googly moogly, that would be fucking amazing. Hope it happens and Atlus takes some inspiration :p

Also lol at people thinking we'll ever get PS3 vesperia

I rly loved graces battle system but I still think vesperia is the best looking tales game. No idea why the na version never released on ps3 hoping we get a slew of tales games for pc. Ill def pick up vesperia, xillia 2 , and zestiria since my ps3 has died.

I'm still hoping we get the PS3 version of Vesperia in the future. I don't care if it's just subbed.

I don't see them releasing ps3 Vesperia on PC ever to be honest, it would end up being the xbox version

Well if you have a moded ps3 and a japanese copy of versperia you will get just that by the end of the month.

Wow, never noticed how close it was to actually being released.
I guess that means the only mainline Tales games left that don't have any sort of English translation would be Destiny 2 and Rebirth.

But... will it run well?

I still would prefer the inevitable PS4 version, as I have all the Tales games on consoles. It's always good to have the option and a bigger audience though.

I doubt that there will many graphic options cause the game is more about the Anime Cel shading Style but 1080p/60FPS would be nice.

AA, unlocked framerate, borderless windowed, 1080p+ resolutions would probably be good enough I guess.

At the very least, Bamco has enough experience with PC that we can expect something.

For example, this is the graphic options in the newest Naruto game.

Sadly the Naruto games stay locked at 30 FPS when they come to PC, so we might have the same case here.

The Naruto games are locked to 30FPS because of some weird animation design that prevents it from going over 30.

Tales games until Zestiria ran at 60 in combat so I am sure a pc could handle it.

well ofc we don't know, but it's what should be the bare minimum.

Besides, the framerate in Zestiria PS3 is... uhm, let's leave it at "bumpy", which means it's not tied to animations. Which is great news for this port even if it's artificially capped at release.

Plenty of games have unstable framerates that are still capped to a certain number either by the engine itself (see: a lot of Dolphin emulations), certain aspects or functionality having specific framepacing (see: FFXIII ports) or by shoddy programming that only affects -some- game aspects (see: KH2 60fps hacks in PCSX2 running beautifully outside of bizarre interactions like hyperactive gravity physics).

This is still much more of an issue with Japanese game dev compared to Western ones because 1) a lot of engines are still in-house proprietary vs. multiplatform-targeted engines & middleware like UE4, etc and 2) Japanese games have targeted a very specific hardware spec without much of even an afterthought to more variable platforms like PC.

Much of the time, they -can- be fixed (see: Valkyria Chronicles PC) but it really is up to a case-by-case basis and how much effort the dev/port handling entity wants to commit.

Hm, true enough. I was thinking along the lines of the dev team not being stupid enough to "downgrade" the engine given the games' history of 60fps just because they knew the PS3 wouldn't hit that target this time, but then again they released Symphonia PS3 as is. Let's hope for the best, I suppose, but at least rock solid 30fps would still be rather noticeable.

I really hope they put either Soul Cal V or SC2HD on Steam. That's all I've wanted from Namco besides Tales for the longest time.

I wouldn't mind seeing Tales of Zestiria, but how likely is it to actually come? I mean Halo has popped up in the databases a number of time hasn't it? Yet, it hasn't come out so Tales being in database doesn't mean anything right? Or does Namco having games on PC increase the likelihood of it happening?

Halo is one of Microsoft Primary Console sellers ofc they want that game to be exclusive on one Plattform, but Namco on the other hand is just a Console Third Party Producer with no ties to any of the big Companys. Also they released 2 Naruto games + the DBZ soon and they sold really well.

New Naruto game is 60fps. So is the DBZ game. The Console version of DBZ is 30fps I believe.

Zestiria runs on a new engine (reported multiple times), BN Studios would need to be stupid to not ensure from the beginning that it's easy to port to (if it doesn't already natively run on) x86 like PC and PS4. Would also be the perfect explanation for all the performance issues in Zestiria on PS3, that may have been a scaled down port from the start.

What if Tales of Zestiria on Steam had online co-op? Wouldn't that be amazing!

I'd love to be able to play Tales of Zestiria with my Steam friends.

If there's a game in the Steam registry, it's 99% sure it's going to be released on Steam. Halo's registry entry leaked with like 13 other games people didn't believe were coming, and they all showed up sooner or later. That's the same with pretty much everything that goes on the registry. Games aren't put on there unless there are firm plans for them to be released.

Halo was an outlier, obviously because Microsoft (stupidly) expanded H2:A into the MCC, so PC plans were cancelled or put on hold to sell Xbox's.

Well someone found Devil's Third Online in the Steamdb recently as well, which I can't see coming to Steam at all, so that slightly lowers the legitimacy of the addition to the db.

That said, I don't think it's impossible. More and more Japanese Bamco games have been coming to Steam, what with Naruto, and now Dragon Ball. It wouldn't be too surprising if Tales of game too.

Yeah, but Devil's Third went on to become a WiiU Exclusive, which wasn't always the case. Plans change, thats the course for software developement.
The IP situation for the Tales of Series is much clearer, and the game in question is already developed. So Bamco dabbling with Steam is kinda weird, if they are not doing anything with it. I mean, what, are their engineers bored?

I don't get the "This can never happen in a million years"-faction. Why? Because there's no precedent for this series? Well, there's always a first.

Yes, but the sub was only added a few days ago. I'd agree with you if it was added years back.

That will be too good. Does this feature exist in console? If no, I doubt bamco will nice enough to implement it.
Having other game to bug my friend to play with apart from L4D2 would be amazing. "Guys, tales time."

License is no longer free on demand but Single Purchase. Seems they updated it quickly. Pretty funny they changed Tales of Zestiria to TOZ to hide it.

It'd be really awesome, but I'd be pretty surprised if it happened. I don't see Namco putting forth more effort than resolution and image quality choices.
