Actually?! This was $42, and now it's $71! Fuck, and I was planning on getting this too. I guess I'll wait for 6 months

What the fuck? I legit ordered this game two days ago for $45 + tax. Absolutely disgusting.

At least VGP has UNIEL for $40, shipping might be expensive but all in all it is around $50.

I know a lot of you have already stated your feelings regarding 74.99 games in the last couple of pages, but if you can please state again how these price hikes will effect your buying decisions of new release PS4 titles.

edit: Just saw the other thread here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=998078

$70 is already putting me off many PS4 titles I otherwise would have tried, and $75 will just make me wait for price drops and stick to PC.

My hope is that Sony could at least keep games at $70 digitally on PSN. Adam Boyes is Canadian himself after all!

I'm flat out just laying off new games now until the prices decrease. I seriously can't justify paying $74.99 for any new games outside of Persona 5 and Final Fantasy XV. I'm still going to pick up Bloodborne and Mortal Kombat X digitally on release, but outside of those two I'm gonna be done if the games digitally increase to $74.99 on PSN.

I'm really into the Disgaea franchise, and was really leaning into getting Disgaea 5 at release. But if it's still gonna be $74.99 come Fall 2015 then I'm gonna have to tap out on it.

Unless those prices drop back to $59.99 or at least stay at $69.99 digitally. Fall is gonna go from being the triple A crunch month for me, to a backlog season kinda like what winter is for me now.

75$ means I'll stick to the far and few high-profile console JRPGs and pass on everything else. Got a big backlog to go through anyway.

I've severely cut back on games I buy at launch and at launch prices. Even the $10 off bloodboune pre-order at futureshop (taking it down to $59.99) was hard for me to justify.

I'm not paying 75$ +tx for games, there's no reason to.

It's not like canadian salaries are 25% higher than in the US (it's actually the opposite, canadian salaries are already lower) but to tax us even more to get your games? Well expect me to simply buy the greatest hits/heavily discounted games only from now on.

I could justify day one purchases with the usual E3 offers, but not anymore.

I would sooner spend $75 dollars on food than on a videogame. Unlike videogames I can't live without sustenance. I'll be waiting on price drops for the time being. No damn reason to pay this much for games.

Price change doesn't bother me, but I haven't bought a full price retail game since they crossed $50. Most I'll pay for anything is $30 and don't even own any of the current gen systems.

Thank fuck for last year's E3 deal. Feel like an idiot for not getting P5 pre-ordered (was going to wait and see what CE they release). The CE will probably be like $120 now. :/

Yeah, E3, Boxing Day, Black Friday, and random sales were the only times I purchased games last year. This year won't be any different. On the plus side, selling any E3 games you don't want anymore for $65 should be easier now.

Too bad the PS4 version of Persona 5 wasn't announced yet during last year's E3. Watch them change it to 20% off this year or something.

Will severely decrease the amount of big titles I purchase, and I'll probably delay those purchases until they reach a reasonable price. The way I look at it now, there's only really one title I need Day 1 and that's SFV, likely in 2016. Everything else can wait until the $40 threshold TBH.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS is now up on Best Buy for those who were looking to preorder.

Best Buy will secure your price if you're concerned about that.

On the surface, the price hike is to be expected with our struggling dollar, but I don't recall games being more than $69.99 back when it was much weaker.

I personally don't have a problem waiting for games to drop, given time constraints and an ever-growing backlog - but this definitely sucks for early adopters.

Will the new 3DS XL fit in regular 3DS XL cases?

And any good deals on cases in general?
It looks pretty much identical to me, so I don't see why it wouldn't. I saw drawstring pouches being sold at ToysRUs for $5; not ideal for protection, but if you just want it covered in your jacket pocket, it'd do the job. For what it's worth, I keep mine in the foam sleeve-thing it came with and did the same with the old 3DS XL with zero issues (it kept the old XL in immaculate condition).

Thanks for the heads up. Ordered at FS (since they update at the same time).
So happy I remembered I had a $25 gift card.

It's worth it. Persona 5 will be worth any amount of money they make us pay.

Is the 3DS version worthwhile if I am interested in Shulk due to Smash and won't have a Wii set up for Xenoblade on Wii?

Was the PS4 version available at the time? I remember seeing the PS3 version for $70 (which I scoffed hard at), but not the PS4 (which I would've pre-ordered).

There was no PS4 version announced as of last E3.

I managed to grab the PS3 version at a cheap price but I will probably end up getting the PS4 version.

I imagine the Wii version is still the ideal way to play. As of the last event when they showed it off it looked fine. The UI was a bit crowded.

$75 before tax...

Well, good thing I've become increasingly interested in older games and less interested in newer ones. For the first time since I started playing games I'm not even interested in the new Final Fantasy (XV) and haven't followed it at all.

Having a lot of fun playing through old PSX RPG classics and FFXI.

At this point I don't even see myself buying a PS4/XB1.

Do we see this kind of price hike with DVD/Blu-ray?

Yeah, I figured that was the reason but couldn't recall that far back. Well, there's no way it'll come out before this year's E3, so I'll pre-order it when the sales start.

I could live off of two weeks groceries with 75 dollars, maybe even three.

Just no sense in buying new unless you really think it's worth the money. I rarely buy new anyway, like maybe 1-3 games a year.

Has anyone noticed if trade in values are increasing too? (Store employees in particular please chime in!)

I'm not buying anything above $60 and even then it has to be AAA with high resale or a keeper (like Mario titles).

PSN and Lives sales are the best. Not long after release, maybe a couple of months old and $40 or so all-in. Sometimes less. And by then all the patches have been applied :) games are fixed.

$75 games makes PSN not charging sales tax a godsend.

This huge price hike (expected anyway) will definitively push me further toward digital, especially if it's a game which I plan on keeping (or fighting games which are well suited toward digital since they are excellent for quick or long session).

PSN has very good sale and no taxes, so I took advantage last week by buying GG Xrd for 24$. It probably won't hit that price in retail until 2016 given it's limited release in Canada (only saw it in Ebgames stores).

Does anyone know whether or not the Stockyard's Target is worth going to now? Has it been picked dry? I was thinking of taking a detour on the way home today to check it out.

I am not sure it's worth it though.

.

Trade values have not increased. I was at Best Buy on the weekend with a copy of The Order and they wanted $30 for it. Best Buy US is offering $40 in trade. Think about that. We're paying $69.99 and getting $30 back while the US is paying $59.99 and getting $40 back.

That doesn't seem fair.

$75 what a joke.. I won't be buying any game for that much.
I would've bought Arkham Knight for that but I have it preordered for the E3 deal last year.

Also bought MLB 14 for PS4 for $10 last night, got one for a friend too.

Just pre-order these during E3 since they most likely won't even be out at that point, you'll save money. :p

no thanks

I have a bunch of games preordered at 69.99 30% off and I'm returning most of them. not gonna do the same deal but at 74.99.

Yeah publishers right now are charging Canadian distributors basically the equivalent in CAD to USD, so retailers can't really do anything about games being priced so high. (charging the same as the US price would result in a Canadian retailer to lose money).

In fact, the cost is better on the greatest hits/heavily discounted games so retailers would probably prefer you to do that in a way. And, y'know, used games and stuff. If publishers want people to stop buying used games, they can try to price everything cheaper. But to do that, they'd have to price US games cheaper too, which would result in publishers making less money. So it's a catch-22. If the market in the US is buying it at that price, they aren't going to change it just for Canada.

So the games will be about $52 before tax if the E3 deal happens?

Hmm. I think I will still do the deals. If a game comes around that I really want at launch I will be kicking myself for not getting the E3 deal on it. If I don't want it I can cancel the order or just return the game when it arrives.

Suddenly services like PlayStation Plus and Games With Gold seem more appealing with they're "free games", but I'm no fan of the idea that my games are only mine to play as long as I'm subscribed to that service.

Gonna wait for deep price drops on the whole LOT of games to come, E3 preorders aside. Nintendo games are gonna be a little frustrating since they hold their value.
