Is Russia ever going to get tired of only being ruled by insane tyrants?

I mean it's pretty sad how little changes there regardless of the ruling system.

Fucking what year is this

It's pretty naive to think that humanity has really moved on from these things. The mass colonization of Africa by Europe was less than 200 years ago. The Holocaust began just over 70 years ago. These are all short times by even our standards as humans.

What's going on in Russia is civil compared to some places on Earth.

One day we will have to fight Russia. It's sad but we know it has been coming since WWII at least.

Not a chance in hell, a war with them will make WW2 look like a school ground fistfight.

Proxy war's on the other hand? Probably, at somepoint in the next ten years.

Ordinary russians are bombarded with propaganda, tailored media and disinformation. Its probably hard to parse through all the bullshit and if you call it bullshit youll disappear.

Journalists and senior politicians maybe but I doubt they monitor the whole population that much. People generally like a strong man in power when they feel insecure. It's not like we are not bombarded with propaganda in the English speaking world and you don't get people wanting violence from the state.

95% chance Russia will try and link Ukraine and the Maidan to this in someway. Reports are beyond the opposition March Nemtsov was also close to releasing a big report on the "rebel" activities in Ukraine detailing all of the Russian military involvement etc.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories or anything of that sort but all the 'mysterious' deaths that are related to Russian politics always seem as though they were made to look obviously related to Putin on purpose. As though he/his supporters want to deny responsibility while also making people know it was him/them. Like 'hey that wasn't me wink wink, but watch your back'

I'm looking at it from a Korean, Vietnam, 80s Afghanistan war perspective. When either of the big powers are actually substantially in the fight, with the other supplying huge amounts of armaments to the proxy country.

Not really. There was a real campaign to finance and support European far right parties because they support breaking up the EU which would be in line with his strategic goals.

It exists, I was just pointing that out. It's not as strong as their current support for the far right but I wager that's because the far right is the current major promoter of dissolving the EU. It could easily of been the far left if that was their major objective.

Russia also has a long history of supporting the left in Europe after WW2 as well.

I've always interpreted the Ukrainian actions as an act of political weakness on Putin's part. He must create tension and chaos in order to justify a rule that provides no other benefits but supposed security . Mysterious (sic) murders fit well in that interpretation I think

It was definitely about projecting strength and to distract from all his failures. I don't think he expected the reaction from Ukraine he got though. Even the guy he sent in to start it all Strelkov has repeatedly complained about how when he went in he got pretty much no support locally and had to bring in people to build his war.

I'm sure this is just a coincidence and no wrong doing was had by the Putin government.

Russia has always been trust worthy.

Already happening.

Klebnikov '04, Politkovskaya '06, Litvinenko '06, Magnitsky '09, Markelov '09....Nemtsov '15

Life expectancy isn't long if you are a high profile critic of the Kremlin.

It's 90s all over again. I'm really scared for the future

90s? That was like the most peaceful decade ever (well for the West). There is a reason books like "The end of History" were written then.

More like early 80s scary. Or imo 1933-1939 scary.

Ordinary russians are part of this mess. They can read news from independent sources and do some critical thinking. Instead, they just follow tzar like sheeps.

I'm sure this had absolutely nothing to do with his criticism of Putin, probably just a freak coincidence.
/s if you couldn't tell

Yeah, it definitely looks like his killing was pretty much to send a message to anyone who would try dissenting Putin.

Russia is....fucked up right now.

Well, in Russia 90s=worthless ruble, emply shelves, assasinations, uncontrollable street crime. There's even saying along the lines of "wild 90s"
