First Look: Community Heads to Yahoo for Season 6
Q: Had you given up on getting the chance to return to Greendale Community College?
A: We'd all mourned the loss of the show. We had a commiserating dinner where we all were like, "Well, that's that. It's all over." We had all moved on and had begun taking meetings other places because we thought it was dead – and then it wasn't. I was thrilled. It was like Buzz Lightyear grabbed us by the shoulders and said, "I'm falling with style." We were like Woody, and we were saved.

Q: Will the new season be different from the NBC seasons?
A: Well, we aren't restrained by the FCC anymore, but that doesn't mean we'll be nude and cursing all the time. It will be the same show – just about three or four minutes longer than it used to be. It's more of an HBO-length comedy now. I can tell you these are the best scripts I've ever done. I am skipping to work each day because I am so happy about what is happening.

Did not know about the extended episode times. That's cool.

No commercials and no timeslot means they can make it as long as they want to. I love the new TV-age. Makes me never want to go back to network TV and its 20 minute show : 10 minute commercial ratio again.

I haven't been keeping up with the show much since it officially died when Donald left, but they essentially traded Yvette for Keith David and Paget Brewster? I'm kinda liking the thought of that.

There are no costs (subscription, Pay per View, etc) associated with Yahoo Screen, correct? Essentially, I should be able to watch Season 6 for free when it "airs"?

I think so. Anyone know which devices carry Yahoo Screen? Xbox 360 by chance?

360 yes, PS3 I think no. It's borderline criminal how hard it is to find this information out on Yahoo Screen's own site; their own help documents don't even mention devices, except iOS.

Edit: BTW, it's probably not a good sign that in Yahoo's "help with our products" page, Yahoo Screen isn't even listed as a main product. I really feel like this venture is a ridiculous waste of money by Marissa Mayer's part. Don't get me wrong, I love Community and I'm glad Yahoo stepped in, but their Yahoo Screen project feels like no one at Yahoo cares enough about it to do even a half-assed job.

Sounds like they're doing a great job at being like Google then!

Aw, I get sad every time I see a new cast photo without Chevy, Donald, and now YNB. Still excited for new season though. Hopefully some surprise guest appearances are in the cards.

I haven't been paying attention to updates since the show was saved so sorry if I'm very late on this, but no Yvette this season? That's a shame. And damn, I know Joel has always been big but he looks seriously jacked in that promo pic.

I would love for hint that Pierce at least faked his death or was abducted by his cult or something. Although Matt Berry as is son or something would also be great.

Yvette left the show to take care of her father. She joined a sitcom which was easier to shoot than Community's long hours.

Note that the sitcom Yvette is a remake of The Odd Couple on CBS. I wish her luck though I'm not interested in it. (The original was classic though.)

Do we know it doesn't have commercials?
There'll probably be ads. But it doesn't count because it's not restricted to a 30 minute timeslot. So ads could be 30 seconds, 60 seconds or 5 minutes if they wanted to be with skip buttons. Plus any ads on the video would be a lot less than what you'd get on TV. And there will most likely not be any mid-video ad breaks. (I fucking hate those. You hear me, Yahoo? Only one ad break per video. At the beginning. Got that?)

Lol for a 30 minute video? In our dreams. It'll probably be similar to how Hulu does ads with their membership-free episodes.

Lol you're crazy.

It's going to be like hulu but the writers will have more flexibility with the location of the ad breaks

Thanks for the info. At least it wasn't due to a fallout like Chevy. Hopefully she could return in a future season.

If she returns at all, I hope they give her something to do. She's the one character that I don't mind too much being gone and it isn't because I don't like Yvette. I thought she was great when she had some time to shine.

Am I seriously the only person here who's already used Yahoo Screen before the season premiere? Y'all are acting like the service isn't live until Community airs.

Seriously, it's absolutely awful as far as usability goes. It's shockingly bad and makes me think they have no idea what they're doing.

I will say they were on the ball enough to donate some swag for CommuniCon 3 and film the panels, though.

I honestly had no idea it existed until Yahoo picked up Community

The real question is will we be able to stream it to a TV connected set top box like the Roku? Or am I going to have to connect my laptop to our TV so my dad and I can continue our Community watch tradition? Hell, I don't even care if they make you have yet another video streaming app to download for it. I mean I don't know a thing about Yahoo! Screen. Does it already have these apps available?

As far as I know, Yahoo Screen is available for X360, Roku, Android, iOS, Apple TV, and of course PCs on the web. It's not on PS3, probably not on PS4, and I don't think it's on Xbox One either. Edit: here's Yahoo Screen's official page about what devices are supported... just the ones I listed. https://help.yahoo.com/kb/screen/wa...ming-platforms-sln25849.html?impressions=true

I just managed to follow online directions to hook up my 360 to my PC to share its network connection, which means I won't have to buy a 360 wifi adapter nor get a router. (long story, I only have one ethernet connection available to me in my place unless I got a switch or router.) Whew. Next up, figure out how to use Yahoo Screen.

Ah. I do not have Xbox Live Gold, and when MS made video apps like Hulu Plus and HBO Go no longer require Gold, I don't think they remembered to also unlock Yahoo Screen.

Edit: no, you don't need Gold! You just need to search for "Yahoo" in the app section and not be dissuaded when there's no auto-complete for Yahoo Screen when you start searching with 'y' and nothing except "Youtube" shows up. Just search for "Yahoo" and you can install the Yahoo Screen app.

Which is honestly even worse than Yahoo Screen on Yahoo. Amazingly, you can't (as far as I can tell) log in to your Yahoo account on this*. Seriously, Yahoo is a doomed company.

* meanwhile, I also installed the Youtube app and that app makes it dead simple to sync your Youtube account to the 360 Youtube app, thus setting up all your subscriptions.

Second edit: there's a dedicated Community channel on the Yahoo Screen website, but I don't think it's updated on the 360 app.
