Played a little over an hour so far and the game is just fantastic. The art style and music are glorious. The game is a piece of art.

I really want it but difficulty is scaring me.

It's not brutally difficult. It's the kind of difficulty a game should have (i.e., you don't breeze through everything. Sometimes stuff takes a couple of tries). It's not like Super Meat Boy or something. And as you get more upgrades, it normalizes more.

So how would my three year old X51 handle this? Plenty of RAM, i5-2320 (3ghz) and a lowly gt545 (1gb ddr5)?

Hmm meat boy was way too hard for me, never played limbo. I did beat guacamelee.
I really want this game!!

The hardest part of the game so far for me has been jumping on that stump in the beginning where the game tells you to hold a to jump higher, I swear it took me like 30 tries to get it.

Are you playing on PC? If so, try playing in windowed mode or turning vsync off. There's a lot of input lag in fullscreen mode with vsync on. I had the same problem.

my laptop just can't quite run this 100% and it breaks my heart. I'm having a great time but I hit a spot where I dropped to like 10fps and augh. I'm just dreading the escape sequences because I know it'll be compromised.

I'm considering stopping but I just don't know if the 360 version is anywhere near being complete. if I knew it was coming out soon then I'd wait it out (painfully), but augh.

anyway, despite that I'm still doing better than everyone around me on the leaderboards! 19% and 27 deaths - not bad, I guess. seems like it should be more like 10 but then I see people with 100 and it's like 'oh, okay.'

I feel like the game has some achievement bug on Steam.
Once again as I started the game back up, some achievements unlocked by themselves, all achievements I couldn't have achieved yet as I'm just in the starting part of the game, more or less (I fixed the first map, and the achievements that unlocked by themselves were the ones to fix 50% of the maps, to fix all the maps and to kill 500 enemies).

Other than that, I keep being mesmerized by how beautiful it is to see this game play in front of my eyes. The ability tree to pick which ability to unlock first had me go through all the various upgrades to decide on which to start first and at the end I only realized that I want to unlock everything.

This game is absolutely incredible. I have played an hour so far, and I am beyond impressed. Prior to playing, I hadn't even watched a video, I was sold by the screenshots alone. So needless to say, when I entered the game, I was positively stunned by the motion of the environment. The way the leaves sway and the little mushrooms and vines twirl around, is fabulous.

When I first got control during the prologue, I was nearly moved to tears by the pure spectacle alone, and looked at the moon for a minute in pure bliss, knowing just what a special experience this game would be. The soundtrack is some of the finest work I've ever heard in a game to date. Music-wise, this game is up into Journey territory. The sound effects are also crisp and sparkly, to match the ethereal character of the graphics. The artwork is just out of this world, which goes without saying. The amount of character and detail is unbelievable. The animation is fantastic, fluid and full of life. This game just oozes soul, and you can tell that the developers really poured their hearts into it.

If that wasn't enough, the gameplay is stellar. Movement feels nice with the running and jumping. The combat feels intuitive and handles well. Not getting any of the input lag others have mentioned. To me, it feels wonderful. I love the item-collecting, the health/energy system. I love that enemies respawn so you can collect more orbs. The skill tree is neat, opening doors feels rewarding and the map is nice. Every single element in this game has a whimsical gravity to it that is so delightful.

This is a game that I am going to savour. I am going to check every nook and cranny twice, and admire every inch of this majestic world while enjoying the lush soundtrack. It's a special feeling to know that an hour into a game, you can tell that it will be one of your favourite game experiences of all time. That's what this game is, a majestic breath-taking experience.

Oh my god it's so good. SO GOOOOOOOOD!

When I reached the end of the first big climactic moment I was literally laughing out loud on my stream in sheer joy and excitement.

It's soooooooooooooo daaaaaammmmmmmmmnnnnnn goooooooooooooood.

If you haven't..... FUCKING BUY IT YOU FOOLS!

And now I have to leave for work. :( :( :( :( :(

I haven't had any crashing issues. There's been the occasional framerate dip but nothing to extreme/major and it only lasted a second or so each time. Certainly not anything hampering my enjoyment. I played for 3 hours with no crashes.

yeah I launched the game once and unlocked a bunch of achievements that I'm pretty sure I didn't deserve. I don't think I've made 10 soul links but I got the one for 50.

lol now I feel worse because I'm actually playing on the xbone. Although my game has had quite a few moments where it has chugged a bit in the framerate, I think turning motion blur off has helped a bit. Though it might just be placebo.

Yep, slight frame drops here and there usually when the scene changes quickly. Haven't had a single crash yet though.

Played the first hour of the game and it was such a delight.

The music, presentation, platforming, controls..everything about was just fun. Can't wait to continue playing later. Good stuff from Moon Studios :D

To those concerned about difficulty, I'll echo.. this game doesn't have 'cheap' difficulty or even Dark Souls/Super Meat Boy level difficulty. It's more like it feels like it came out in the wrong generation, feels like a non-broken SNES game. All of the skill tree stuff is geared to helping you out depending on your weak area (additional jump, more damage, restore health with saving, etc) The saving system is very generous as long as you remember to do it (everytime I've suffered a major setback I only had myself to blame).

The review is going to be difficult to write. I mean I keep trying to come up with ways to say WHY it's so good. But I can't. All that comes out of my mouth is "It's... it's just.... it's just so good!".

Moon Studios you guys have really crafted something special here. I mean really. I love this game. I'm in love.

This. And with practice, even the no deaths run is entirely feasible. It's hard, sure, but it's hard in a rewarding way not a punishing way. It's amazing.

If you can manage to wait at least until e3 in June then I would wait and see what is shown there just in case. I feel like this latest MCC bundle being just a regular black xbox one with a download code is a push by microsoft to get rid of old hardware.

That's my inclination, but I feel like I might regret it as the XB1 IP is really strong imo. For my purchasing decision, if it's really true that the GAF majority thinks that no slim is coming until 2016, then it's not really worth waiting.

The only thing holding me back is the hope for a slim model, which perhaps, I put more weight on simply bc I feel like if MSFT wants to gain market share back, they need to be progressive and proactive and its not convenient for me personally. Let's be honest, the XB1 form factor is less than flattering and its form factor, amongst other things, had / has me turned off of the XB1's prospects.

Wiall, that is good to hear.

Does this really tax the machine it's played on? Want to get this on steam on my 2014 Mac MIni but I fear it'll be pretty piddly and not play it properly. Any impressions for crappy graphics cards?

I noted the minimum requirements (230GT) and looked up benchmarks but it's still not... really clear. Thanks.

Wow, absolute stunner! Gets pretty difficult at times (for me). I died 50 times already.

Also, no problems so far on the X1.

This game is fucking amazing and that prologue was just so good but at the same time not for reasons obvious to anyone who has played it.

I'm blown away. I'm so glad this game has some substance to it too, I was worried it'd be all style.

StudioTan

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?
Only got to play for an hour or so before my show was on but the game is absolutely stunning.

The prologue is so well done, I had seen it before but didn't realize you had control of the character for parts of it. I LOVE the way the narrative is presented during that part. Great stuff.

Gonna go play more now!

Just bought. First game I've bought in months actually. I have to be a lot more frugal now, but this game seems right up my alley.

This game is excellent, but it's definitely making my Xbox One act all wonky. First time I tried to boot the game it crashed my Xbox. Second time when I shut the system off, it completely shut it off instead of just sending it to standby. Third time it wouldn't even let me turn off my system at all. Hrm.

Edit: Crap. Now my system isn't even thinking my Kinect is plugged in. WTF.

Three hours in and I'm blown away so far. Just completed the
Ginso Tree escape
which I died an extremely embarrassing amount on, but otherwise I am having a blast so far.

Right from the start I was floored by how insanely polished and high quality everything is. Art assets, animation, sound design, the soundtrack (so damn good) and gameplay design are all extremely well done. I'm not really a big platformer player, but aside from my struggles at the aforementioned location (which I'm determined to conquer in one go next time around!) I found the difficulty to be appropriate. It's not "cheap" or annoying, it teaches you how to succeed by hitting you over the head a few times before you realize what you've done wrong. I'd say the difficulty is welcome and it keeps you engaged in the game more so than if it was just a button masher, go right platformer.

I still can't get over how good it looks. XBO and it is smooth and clean as can be. The locations are phenomenal and I really like the premise for the story so far, excited to see where it goes.

All in all I couldn't be more happy (well, I would if I didn't suck at
Ginso tree
so hard! I chalk that up to tiredness and incompetence) and I'm excited to play more tomorrow.

Biggest disappointment: All of the achievement images are the same just with different emblems! Perfect opportunity for XBO backgrounds that was sorely missed IMO. And without a way to remove the HUD (thomas please!) there's no way to get HUD-less screenshots right now which is a bit of a bummer.

Steam community top 3 is pretty baller. I'll be double dipping since I paid for the XBO version with those free gamestop credits from last summer.

Do you have Netflix running? Netflix always messes up my Xbox.

For reference for people wondering about the difficult, if you've played Metroid, Rayman Guacamelee or the like for a decent length of time you'll be fine.

Honestly, I have no idea. I managed to get the Kinect working again by completely turning it off, but it's still super wonky.

Made the mistake of playing through the prologue for the first time with my 3 year old son sitting in my lap. I was doing a stoic job of holding it all in until that part came and my son, who had been giggling the whole time says in a soft voice, "oh no..."

I cried like a baby. I actually had to stop for a bit to let my vision clear up.

This is going to be a wonderful ride for us.

I didn't know how apt it would be at the time when I thought up the title for the OT. All I had to go on was the handful of trailers, art and communication from the team. But this game truly has heart and it's not just in the story, I can see it in everything. If you are reading this and own the game, it doesn't matter where you are in the game, just spend a few minutes to stand still and take it all in. There are details everywhere. I was taken aback earlier when I heard that there where no reused assets in game but after playing that statement has a whole new level of impact.

Thomas for your communication with the community. Moon studios for all of your passionately hard work and giving my family a rare magical moment in our lives. And to Microsoft for having faith in a wonderful studio.

Sincerely, Thank you.
