Dark Souls II has a 91 MC score. I guess we can expect Bloodborne to reach at least 182 on Metacritic. Yeah, over 100.

Dark Souls was lightning in a bottle for me. DSII completely turned me off that kind of game, so yeah... Bloodborne is definitely not for me. And the fact that it's exclusive to PS4 makes the deal even more bitter.
There's difference on design approach between DaS and DaSII. Even you don't always paid attention to it, player can notice the difference subconsciously, and perhaps that what makes you like the sequel less.

So what's this about enemies not having drops? Or is it just no weapon drops? Is that confirmed?

Itll probably be just like DaS and Demons. Those games didnt really have drops. Almost everything could be obtained through just playing the game and exploring. Except for BK weapons and specific NPC armors of course. DaS2 changed this and made obtaining cool armors difficult through grinding and NG+(++)

A bit off topic, but I can't watch most of the Bloodborne gameplay gifs or videos without seeing:

again and again. Not sure if it was an intentional reference either.

Some questions:
1. What's the levelling system like? Assuming the game is hard I like having the option to grind
2. Is it open world like DaS or hub based like Demons?

Not that it matters, I've got a collectors edition on preorder

I dunno if it's been mentioned, but it's not a review, I've got the magazine in my hand. It's basically a pre-review. They've gotten 40 hours in it seems, though it seems some things they can't mention like a new mechanic. Review is in the next issue.

Edit: NVm it has been mentioned.

Seems Sony is confident in this game. I am anxious to try it.

They just want time to edit the commercials to showcase all the headline comments and review scores along with the game the week leading to launch.

Is it possible to get a high resolution one ?

That is the resolution it was on PSN for me, so not at the moment but I'm fairly sure it'll pop up somewhere with higher resolution sooner or later.

Monday is going to be a good day it seems.

Ahhh, I see. I only really played Dark Souls 2 (little of DaS & DeS), so was used to that method for some weapons/etc. Granted, most weapons could be bought or found in chests/places/etc.

Combat is faster, more forgiving in some ways and harder in others. The list of stats has been trimmed down and simplified a bit. Co-op with friends is a bit more straightforward.

Still going to be a challenging and evidently very long game.

interesting - maybe I'll give it a shot....thanks

have they finished the game within the 40 hours?

Well, the only negative thing coming out of this pseudo review is they have a few worries about potential replayability as there is no class system and enemies no longer drop weapons/gear.

However, they do claim to be over 40 hours in and the end isn’t in sight and there is also a brand new mechanic that they are forbidden from discussing. Also, longevity will apparently come from procedurally generated Chalice Dungeons but these weren't working in their build yet.

Do they have any more details about the lack of class system? The classes in previous games boiled down to starting gear and initial stats but didn't really define how your character would play. We've already seen that the character creator in Bloodborne has starting options with different stats, so it seems like the class system is unchanged, no? Do they just mean that there's less options for how your character plays and that you'll be melee with a gun as a secondary weapon no matter what?

1. It's assumed that leveling is closer to DaS and Demons than DaS2 (i.e. enemies respawn everytime you use a checkpoint). Looks like there are less stats though, so hopefully there won't be a useless one like resistance.

2. It appears to be a mix. The main world is a single interconnected place, like DaS, but there is also a "safe" hub area on a separate map.

I don't know what edge thinks classes are. Origin story's are in place to have different starting stats, and maybe some role-playing, but these games never had named classes that were in the player description. You become a hunter in the start of the game i assume and up your arsenal from there forth.
But dammit what else do they talk about in those 5 pages.

So it is a review but with no score attached. Nice!
Clever way around the embargo, lol!

It's also an experiment they say, long form reviews but no score, and they'll attach an arbitrary number the after. Actually, Edge - out of everyone - gives the least arbitrary scores, so at least it will be a number that reflects the text.

I hope the long-form reviews stick, print magazines need to do things a little differently now and use that delay-to-print time wisely. Lets have some game features like this glorious thing:

It's sad that Rich Leadbetter is remembered for different things these days.

Time to take out the dust of my PS4. Hyped!

It will still get dusty even if you use it, mate. This needs to have a new saying 'I might even take the [INSERT CONSOLE HERE] out of the box/ down from the loft now!' might do, because the 'dusty' one works about as well as the light physics in that 'WiiU at the window' image that always bends my head.

It's been a long time since a game blew its way into my top 10 like a hurricane, not since Bioshock probably, but this...I have a good feeling.
