pffft who cares

whole thing can run at 20fps as long as game content is well designed

20 fps would really exacerbate any balance and/or camera issues that the game has.

I don't know what edge thinks classes are. Origin story's are in place to have different starting stats, and maybe some role-playing, but these games never had named classes that were in the player description. You become a hunter in the start of the game i assume and up your arsenal from there forth.
But dammit what else do they talk about in those 5 pages.

Still, there was build variety coming from the inclusions of (strong) shields and magic. Fewer stats, no weight mechanics, a more limited equivalent to magic (short-range guns), no heavy armor, etc. could reduce replayability, as well as making Chalice Dungeon co-op less interesting.

Well, the only negative thing coming out of this pseudo review is they have a few worries about potential replayability as there is no class system and enemies no longer drop weapons/gear.

However, they do claim to be over 40 hours in and the end isn’t in sight and there is also a brand new mechanic that they are forbidden from discussing. Also, longevity will apparently come from procedurally generated Chalice Dungeons but these weren't working in their build yet.

Classes? We don't need no stinking classes.

I have no concerns about replay value. I'm sure I'll have hundreds of hours in by the end of the year.

If they are saying they are 40 hours in and don't know yet when the endgame happens, then this game is pretty sizable alright. I really see this more of a preview, with a very convinced previewer. Evjen without considering multilayer separately they haven't played enough of the game. Really like to read more the article.

Plus I'm sure there may be some secret areas they missed. I'm really glad Chalice Dungeon map downloading doesn't require PS+ too.

I'm getting my new PS4 in today, really hyped :3

I'm hopeful that it'll run as well as Dark Souls minus the major problem areas. Mostly 30, with the occasional drop in a busy scene or a weird camera angle.

I don't know about magic not being in the game though. The higher complexity of the weapons give me Monster hunter vibes, with fewer weapons but with most of them being viable.

9 days early isn't that unusual. People are just focusing on a few recent high-profile cases of embargo abuse.

It's not extremely rare, but it still only happens to like 3-4 games a year, tops.

Off the top of my head, Mario Kart 8, Dragon Age Inquisition, TLoU...

Even games where publishers are confident about, don't always get a week plus. 2-4 days, sure, but 9 is on the high side.

If enemies don't drop weapons/gear, how do we get new items? Do the weapons and gear never change?

Not a review, but the second-from-last line is

'And if you've been watching this generation from the sidelines, unmoved by the remasters and rush jobs while you wait for the first essential to arrive, now's the time'. The last line is even better: 'As if there was ever any doubt, Miyazaki and his team have done it all over again'.

So it looks like people might just be buying a PS4 for Bloodborne, afterall.
As if there was any doubt indeed. This game can't get here soon enough!

they'd be placed in select areas around the games world. treasure chests, npc merchants, off of corpses in select areas who maybe used to weild said weapon prior to passing, etc

Again, it'll be like the other Souls games. Find them in the world, buy them from NPC merchants, maybe craft them from stuff that bosses drop.

I don't understand why people are reacting like this, enemy drops weren't really the primary source of gear on most of the series. Most of the important stuff was found in a treasure chest or purchased for souls.

But I need 17 Broken Straight Swords.

Not being able to play games as this one anymore makes me sad. :S, would have loved them a few years back!

In some ways, it is an improvement. Fewer duplicates to sift through. Even with DkS2 massive interface upgrade, management was still more than it should have been.

Wai wait wait. WHAT? Does that mean weapons/armor will be exclusive to vendors?

Thing is fps has been shit since Demons' Souls, and I couldn't give less of a shit. The games are amazing.

Not much to add there but a lot of vocal people can't exactly tell if a game is good from footage or from series that they never played before. To me it's the greatest looking game to come out the past year.

and treasures. and lying around. and corpses. and wherever you else found them in all other ds games.

Loot adjustment is again a continuation of the anti-farming mechanisms added into Dark Souls 2.

Really. Looks much better.

So I'm confused. Is this a review or not? Sounds like it to me...

Scoreless review.

Just mentally append a really positive 9/10 like all three of the Souls games.

Not really. Environments and shit.

They'll be on corpses and made from boss materials more than likely. In the out of bounds area in the alpha there was an armor set on a corpse hanging from the rafters above the sewer.

Thanks, i had a brain fart and completely forgot you could find items in the world :3

At least this means no more farming, so its all good. :)

Thanks for clearing that up. I overreacted and read it as if there was going to be a limited amount of weapons/gear.

Why is everyone assuming bosses will drop materials when it says enemies don't drop items?

So apparently you can only have 20 blood vials on your charcter at a time. Anymore you gain go back to a storage box at the Hub. When you die and respawn whatever you have in the storage is added to what you have left on your character. This is great.

It says enemies don't drop equipement I think? We've seen enemies dropping plenty of things in the alpha. Making equipment from boss souls has been a thing in all 3 Souls games.

'Bout god damn time a true "next gen" game came along. Was seriously considering selling my PS4 for a WiiU. Whew! That was close

Shiieeet, early embargo for reviews?
I guess we don't need to worry about another fallout like Ubisoft and its 11AM PST embargo.

Sony must be very confident in BB because 9 days early of bad presses=DOA.

Major bosses in souls games aren't usually just obstacles. You get a boss soul in those games which is an indicator of your win and used to obtain unique things, be it weapons spells. I think the article would state that you get nothing from bosses which would be the biggest departure from the series yet. Just getting a key isn't enough for a souls boss.
