PS4 download speed. Comcast. 40-59 Mbps. PC 80-85 Mbps. How to fix?

Well, I'd like to believe my silly PS4 doesn't really know how good it has it, but...
I am wired however. Would not have it any other way with PS4 getting more usage these days than my decent PC upstairs in the house.

Yup! Basically just letting you know you're not the only one with this problem. If you can get faster speeds on PSN I'd be very interested in hearing about it. I'm using ethernet as well.
Your Steam runs at 120-155 Mbps? That's crazy good speeds.
Ya.. I would have expected this with my PS3. Not with my PS4. Just stupid assumptions I guess. PS4 being a mini-PC, I figured all of this garbage had gone away.

There's nothing you can do. It's on Sony's end.
I have a 55mbps (7 MB/s) connection with Comcast and PSN only uses about half of it on a good day, while Steam takes full advantage.

Exactly the same for me in the UK, It seems to have got worse lately too.
They clearly need to invest in a better CDN as Steam is blisteringly fast for me (up to 19MB) which is kind of annoying given we have to pay for the service.
Man, Australians are getting screwed. Sorry to hear that.

I have 5 Mbps internet that I borrow, with permission, from neighbors using a repeater outside my house sitting on a trashcan. (no joke). I live in a rural place (the property is a lakefront house, so it's rad) and literally no company will sell me internet service. There are trees blocking our connection to a wifi lan company's service. That's why I am stuck with using my neighbor's connection.
My wife and I went to my parents' to use their comcast to download Bloodborne. It was a life saver, the 5GB play-go dl was gonna take 40 hours to complete at my house. It took a couple hours tops to get all 30 GB of downloads done. I hear that PSN speeds are bad, but I have to say that today I have no complaints this time around.

I just compared my PS4 speed test vs my pc for comparisons.
PS4 speed test showed 24/4 and I tried it 5 times and always got within 2 either way.
Actual PSN download is going 25 Mbps so right what it was telling me.
PC showed 125/25 and same when testing in California. Was getting 15 MB/s from Steam so full speed from there.
In my experience PSN is just really spotty. Sometimes downloads are way faster than normal and other times it is some of the slowest downloads I've ever seen. Nothing you can do about it.

For a service that people pay for, PSN seems to have poor download speeds.
this is my experience as well, its terrible. sometimes I get random drops low enough that it breaks the online component of the game(far cry 4, DOA) im playing which means online is useless on sonys platform. I worry that bloodbornes online wont work correctly as a result.
I don't understand why no press has grilled sony on this especially considering they charge for it.
I'm starting to think that games are stored on publishers servers. It can't change that much.
That said, I just got a 12gb game off PSN in under 70mins. Not sure how that compares to others but I'm pretty happy.
Yep, same here. I get 17mb/s on my phone, but am lucky to get 2mb/s on PS4. It makes playing online extremely infuriating. The entire PSN infrastructure is borked. Always has been, always will be. Sony just cannot seem to get it right.

I get 65 out of 120. Its probably deal with it. You'd expect better speeds for a premium server, but its just PS3.

As it should. Steam, Origin etc have no problems reaching 500Mbps on my connection.
Only my consoles have troubles reaching even half of that. PS4 shows the most problems with speeds that can easily drop down to <8Mbps whenever it feels like for some strange reason.
Not all of us are. Generally depends on where you live. I can pull 100Mbs easy. That said, PSN speeds are still a crapshoot. xbl is much better And steam is like 13MBps.

Yeah, it's a PSN issue, as the same is true on PS3 and Vita too. I'm at 25-50% of my available bandwidth (5-10mbps out of ~20). This can crumble to 5-10 on store update days. It took me 3 hours to download each RER2 episode.
It's probably the same on 3DS mind you, it's just that Nintendo go out of their way to not tell you what's happening.

People still don't understand that your connection speed only determines the maximum speed you can download and your actual download speed comes from what ever server is serving you. Sony uses shit servers. On a good day can download a full game(20gb) in 1 or 2 hours other days it can take the same time to download a patch.

I get minimum of 100Mbps be it Origin, Uplay, Steam or Xbox Live. But when it comes to PSN, it averages around 10Mbps, 30-40Mbps on the good day, when I can reliably push 200Mbps+ to any continent including Africa lol.
In fact, some servers on Steam throttle me server side to 100Mbps exactly. Steam servers in China are downloading at exactly 13.2-13.3MB/s, but as soon as I switch to Los Angeles or Tokyo, I get 50-60MB/s which is close to 500Mbps.

I can max out my 500Mbit on Steam, it sure is something to see it download at ~60MB/s. They have good servers at least for me in Sweden.

I have some strange bandwidth problems with my PS4 as well. It's connected via LAN to my router. I should be getting ~38Mbps down and ~8 Mbps up and can get that on my PC connected via LAN to the same router. Downloading things off PSN gives me random speeds from 4 - 24 Mbps without any consistency at all. Even a speedtest through the PS4 webbrowser gives me only ~26 Mbps down but ~8 Mbps up, which can't really be PSN's fault. Can't really explain that, but it's annoying.
Just moved to fiber connection on Saturday. Speed check on the Mac (wireless) is getting just over 100mbps. Connected my PS4 (wired) speed test has it at 59mbps. Not maxing out but going from 3.5mbps to 59 i can live with that.

At a guess I'd put it down to Sony's mismanagement of the growth of Playstation network.
Lol, that's faster than what my hard disk can write. How times are changing.. Theoretically, a cloud virtual memory can surpass an old hard disk speed! (granted, it needs to be symmetric)

I would take zero notice of what the speed test on the ps4 shows up as it's totally wrong. It gives you a different number every time sometimes way way different. But when I download I'm getting 8mb a second which is around what I'd expect for my line. Got zero issues with psn servers just to add some balance to the thread and I know none of my friends have issues either.

I did a speed test through the PS4 browser last month. Its pretty difficult to find one that works though as most are flash or java based (and some required a larger buffer that the PS4 would allow).
Suffice to say I received my full 160Mb download speed so I was satisfied it was not anything my end, or to do with the Ethernet adaptor on the PlayStation.

Its like everything gets cut in half. Also, my PS4 is wired while my Macbook is using wifi. lol get it together Sony.

Yeah, I have a 250mbit connection, but usually get around 150mbit on wireless. Steam almost always use what's available for me.

Sony should implement a multi connection download system like IDM. For PS3 it is possible to send files to PC then to PS3, in order to maximise DL Speed in an IDM fashion. Not sure if this can be done for PS4 as well?
