Same here. I double-checked just now with my local GameStop and found they still had some in stock with a bundle for $350 (!)...

Honestly, I don't like it, even if it is gold. It's not so pleasant for me to look at the scary-ass Majora's Mask every time I open and close the 3DS...

I have to skip it. I do hope there are more limited editions in the future...

Units stock because of the strike.
if they're selling you the bundle, they probably ran out of stock of the (up to) 4 units they received to sell as is. Now, the bundles are web-in-store which are ordered in the store from their warehouse.

If they're doing their own bundle, now that may be a little shady. You could call the district manager if you really want one by itself. The emails only had those two options: standalone and online bundle.

From reading the comments, it appears there was some logistic issue in either Nintendo or Gamestop supply chain and these units weren't delivered with the rest on release day. This most likely the last chance people had to buy one of these Zelda 3DSs.

If they're selling them in store, bundle only (and not web-in-store), then they are not supposed to be doing that and you should contact their district manager.

Wow people weren't kidding about the system transfers being a pain in the butt, haha. Just spent the better part of 3 hours shuffling my data over. My crappy internet cut out the first time when it was like 90% done and I had to start over. The second go-round I was hating those little Pikmin running around taking their sweet time.

But it finally finished and I got to take the new console for a spin...it's awesome!

I can now finally retire my Ocarina of Time edition OG 3DS. It can rest and just look pretty on my shelf with some of my other video game stuff.

To be fair, this seems to be leftover stock that just got caught up in the port strikes -- not a new wave of production.

For all we know, these were part of the units Best Buy originally thought they would get at launch (hence all the cancelled pre-orders), and were reallocated to Gamestop when the stock finally got freed up.

Managed to snag the last one for my brother in the Gamestop that recently opened in my neighborhood. My brother got crazy lucky that he hit me up while I was out and about.

Although it's funny because when I called them an hour before, they said to come at 4 to try to bamboozle me in retrospect. I stepped foot in at 3:40. I hadn't bought a single thing from a Gamestop in two years so when they tried to shove a bunch of stuff needless stuff down my throat, I realized why I stopped shopping there in the first place. I won't be activating that Power Up reward card.

Thank you for posting this thread. I was in a Walmart parking lot about to go inside when I decided to quickly check NeoGAF (I think I have a problem, though in this case it benefited me) and saw this. There is a GameStop in the same shopping center, so I went over there to be told they sold out that morning. I looked up all the GameStops in my area and called the first one on the list, was told they have a few left and that they can't hold one for me, and I headed over there immediately. 15 minutes later and I got the second-to-last one they had.

I never upgraded from the original 3DS and have always skipped game releases, telling myself I'll play them on an XL. Now, it seems like this is the best (and last) version of the 3DS, and I have the benefit of having a large, awesome library of games I never touched to play on it. With this New 3DS XL, I now have the best versions of all the modern consoles (along with a decent PC), so I don't have to worry about missing out on any games. Now I just need to research the transfer process to make sure everything carries over.

Apparently that depends on the store. If you know them, they might. If you're just calling randomly, probably not. This is just based on my experiences with them so it's not exact science.

ugh. that's the worst. I'm sorry. It's one thing when you just get unlucky and the store you went to didn't get any or something like that. But when an employee tells you they're not getting any and there's no point to wait around, just to then be 100% wrong. That just sucks.

A bunch of people probably only bought them to resell them. There's a lot of listings from today. So you have a lot of listings bringing down the average price. They'll probably go back up in the future.

So I got home and waited for my son to finish homework and called him over. Said I had something to show him and the pulled out the MMXL out of the bag. His jaw dropped and he was in shock. Didn't tell him anything about the restock, didn't want to get his hope up.

He asked if I was trolling him with an empty box. Was not.

To be a kid again and be that excited, it was priceless. He's had a tough year with Crohn's and it's so good to see him so happy.
