GTA V PS4/XONE Downgrade - Version 1.00 Vs 1.08 Comparison [edit: BUG]

Seems like a valid complaint to me when his games are being downgraded.

An unintentional downgrade is also known as a graphical bug. It sucks, but it's not a malicious, deceptive "bait and switch" like some people are making it out to be.

But laptop CPU's......

Yeah. It grinds my gears how people are very quick to jump to conclusions on this. We know that the "non-swaying trees" was a bug, and it was fixed.

Now this happens and we have a bunch of PC gamers instantly claiming consoles are "trash", and that the game was obviously downgraded because their hardwares are weak, and the usual "glad I waited for the PC version".

GAF can descend to Youtube-quality comments sometimes....

I notice that the 'motion blur strength' setting (introduced in 1.08 I believe) still resets after every game session. Also, still dont notice any difference when that setting is changed

Pretty sure everything 'downgraded' is just bugs only.

It's a 4.75GB patch...

So not likely just fixing bugs.

EDIT:

"Version 1.09

Additional fixes for GTA Online to improve stability, and other minor fixes for both GTA Online and Story Mode."

Yes. Wonder if they were able to really flick the effects back on that easy. Can't see the patch notes yet.

It's already been covered in the thread. The patch seems to fix vehicle deformation but stuff like parallax mapping is still missing. It's just a coincidence that a new patch hit this morning, it's just not possible that they would have already been able to patch stuff related to graphics issues that are just getting attention today.

Missed that, thanks

Ohh. Ok. Thanx.

I've read the way patches work on ps4 is to show all the updates available as the total Gb to download, if you are up to date you only DL the latest small amount of whatever size that patch is.

So as an example in this case the 4.75gb is all the updates but only 750mb of that maybe the patch you need, so you DL 750mb

all the other stuff i wouldnt of cared

but reducing the car damage kind of sucks (Edit : wait i'm hearing this is fixed ? now i really dont give a damn about the "downgrade")

Either way its no big deal to me

Only downgrade that really turned me off completely to a game so far has been watch dogs

How do you screw this up.. Hope they fix it.

The game is freaking massive. Sometimes adding some new features or changing the littlest of things and cause something else to become disrupted.

Also, they must of not tested "staring at train tracks" before releasing the update.

Yeah, I'm not seeing evidence of a AF change but its a blurry YT video.

I compared a few sections side by side where he runs back and forth and just can't see it. The video then jumps to a zoomed in still shot comparison but it just looks closer. I compared the beach and aside from the missing POM the AF looks the same.

Anyway, seems more like some bugs. I expect POM to return

It's exactly the same, I don't see a reduction in AF.

edit
And if you somehow manage to spot a difference, it's because the 1.08 shot is further back than the 1.00 shot.

kinda off topic and I don't even play games that much these days, but this game has terrible pop-in on the ps4 version. Whats up with that.

Driving a car through the hills really demonstrated the pop-in problem. Grass literally grows right in front of the car as you drive.

Goddammit, Rockstar. Staring at the train tracks in first person was my favorite thing to do in GTA V.
Yeah, mine too. I also love staring at hedges and rocks in the game. How could Rockstar screw up this badly? Never would have expected such a thing from such a renowned video game developer.

Correct. The last patch I downloaded for GTA started at like 4.45 GB out of 4.65 or something right off to bat

Weird to single out the PS4 version. And it's vastly better in the current gen then it was on last gen, where objects would appear literally inches in front of your car at times, stopping you dead in your tracks, or entire buildings and pieces of the roadway would occasionally have trouble loading in when traveling at high speed.

It's amazing how we have been conditioned to simply accept "bugs" without any pushback. "Oh you released a $60 product and released bugs months afterwards, that's fine. It's just a bug and making games is hard. We will let you take your time fixing the product I bought. It's fine."

Bugs ARE real issues and if people don't raise a stink, they go unfixed.

The acceptance attitude is destroying AAA gaming more than flipping out over bugs.

Have you ever worked in game development?

Indeed. They have also not tested "staring at beach side" "staring at cobblestones" and "staring at ground" in general. Also, parallax occlusion mapping is better appreciated in motion due to its view dependent processing, captures and "imitates" depth not possible with normal mapping, which may look fine in a set angle but falls "flat" on its face when you move around.

You were doing fine explaining, until the last sentence.

I've been holding out for the PC version and I'm going to need a freaking guide to get through all these new side quests.

[edit: upon further reading, i might not have all the info i thought i did! Go easy on me :p also i think it's worth bearing in mind that GTAV is a port which we know is severely limited by what it was like on the last-gen versions. The near distance pop in and low HD draw distance. I dont think we can nit pick too much!]

Oh, so you're okay with this precedent of downgrading a game significantly via patch after everyone has already purchased it?

Significantly?

Im on a phone so don't have access to videos or gifs, but from the pics and writing i can see, this sounds like a very insignificant graphical down step for a decent performance hitch.

Most of the player's time in GTA is spent driving at high speed or looking at things in the near distance (eg objective markers or enemies). To see this issue - afaict - one has to stand still and look at nearby objects closely.

More casual players certainly wont notice details like this, and surely even core players have to stand still and look closely. (Also this graphical downgrade sounds so minor that the art in the game must be 99.9% sustained.)

However, it's really dishonest and bad practice that Rstar didn't say they did this. Is it seriously not in the patch notes?! If they made it a setting, that would be ideal. Still, i'm not too fussed - a gameplay improvement is worth it for an altered detail.

While not game-breaking per se it is a noticeable downgrade in graphic fidelity.

Maybe it's time to add a graphics option for the game to toggle some of these graphical features on/off and let users choose performance or better graphics?

You were doing fine until you took the last part seriously. That part is better appreciated as a joke. I apologize though, in the future I will try to make my jokes have more depth and be sure to not just imitate it. Rockstar said that they are aware of the issue and are looking into it.

Here is the post...

You can look at it clearly from any angle, it isn't view dependent.

Did anybody else's game settings get reset to default with this latest update?

Haven't checked this one but I remember my settings got reset with the Heist update. Had to re-enable some options like subtitles

Im sorry this thread is too long to read but what was that 5gb update of the game? Not only gfx changes right?

5 GB is the total size of all updates to date, not the most recent.

Dash Kappei

Not actually that important
Is there a way to download and apply patch 1.07 offline? Goddamn now I'm regretting not buying the game before :/

All my settings in SP were reset to defaults after the heist update...plus Trevor's customisations (Clothes, beard, haircut) was also reset

Hope this is not a recurring theme after every update now :/

I know you were joking but it made it look like the issue is restricted to a small portion of the game and non-trivial as if something that can only be noticed while staring otherwise aimlessly.

When I said view-dependent, I meant the parallax occlusion effect takes your viewing position into account and creates the depth effect with respect to your view, whereas a simple normal map doesn't (aside from speculars being affected by your view point but that's not enough), I emphasized that to underline the importance of parallax occlusion mapping and that you don't have to stay / stare to appreciate its contribution to the scene.

test method: got out of house, grab first passing by car, go full speed, hit one immovable column.

engine bay deformed reasonably well. just like in single player

The thread has already come to the consensus that 1.09 contained a fix for the deformation, but the rest of the graphical issues in single player remain unfixed.

When I said "view-dependent" it was me playing with your words. As in you simply looking at the post on your computer monitor being able to read it at whatever angle. Again, I tried a joke with a little more "depth".... PUN INTENDED.

I am fully aware of what you actually talking about as 3D and game design is what I do for a living.
