Yukiko and Naoto art too, and everyone except Kanami seems to have alt costumes added to the costume viewer.

Midwinter casuals confirmed, YESSSSSS.

Cheerleaders too. For the costumes like cheerleaders, where previously Naoto had the male version of the outfit, will she get the male or female version, do we think?

Who knew that Yuki did ballet?

It was actually part of Soejima's original opening for P4. Yukiko was meant to be dancing through the inn.

So there you go.

That aside, and I may get shot for this, but I really feel like these dances don't actually fit the characters at all.

Well Dantis, I don't think this is a controversial opinion, but I don't think a majority of these characters would like dancing at all :p

Yeah, pretty much. I appreciate that there probably wasn't a way around it once they set off on making an idol dancing game, but it's still sort of weird to see them doing dances that I don't think any of them except for Rise would actually do.

I am really glad with this since PV 01 trailer , fits perfect with her way of "fight with grace" ...

The trailer of Yukiko is the one i looking forward (and Naoto just for the character she is i cant imagine her dance style .... besides the couples of scenes with her in the others trailers)

-----
About Chie trailer i have mixed reactions , that Pursuit True Self remix is my favorite track so far.
But her dance moves i expect something more crazy or energetic for the kind personality she has....

Or maybe all the energetic , over the roof , kicking all the asses personality is something Erin Fitzgerald sells to me , hell even her japanese voice sounds more composed and quiet than the Chie i know.

Still liked , and love the Bruce Lee outfit.

So basically they putting all the costumes of Golden , i hope the Phoenix Rangers Featherman R make it...

Like P4A was the first fighting game I took seriously, P4D will be the first rhythm game I take seriously. I'm not sure what form the structure of some kind of regular competition between users would take (I'd have to check up on it; I think one of our communities does this?), but it'll be pretty fun to set up and compete.

I know that the Theatrhythm community runs regular community challenges so that might be a good place to get some ideas for what sort of structure to use.

She has no style, she has no grace, this Chie, has a funny face.

Love how that rhymes....

And kind of funny how the characters are lineup in the website now making row of 4 (up to down) , leaving like 3 spaces below Kanamin...

So Nanako is one ,
the other two Marie and Margaret ....

PLEASE GOD No Adachi playable , he have enough stealing the spotlight in Ultimax....

Well to be honest for Rise i was expecting a full Miku dance moveset....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY__VTIUsiU

Glad to see neither her o Kanamin goes as Miku copycat and have more unique dancing styles.

And so far (i cant believe i saying this) the one who has the best moves is Yosuke , kinda of surprise with those moves.

But the next week maybe Kanji trailer hits and that gonna be insane.

How do they compare to the dances in Miku? I imagined them to be pretty similar.

Project DIVA's sections are more like music videos, most tell a story and the backdrop, the dance, it all relates to the song. While with P4D, from what we've seen, the dance relates to the character and then applied to the song.

They are similar at times, but I think it works alot better in DIVA.

Obviously, we've still seen very little of P4D.

I should note, alot of the content in DIVA is based on animations / videos that were already made for the song beforehand

Kanji next week. Then Yukiko. Then Teddie. Then Naoto.

I can see Teddie first than Yukiko since Naoto and Yukiko debut until the last trailer (PV 01) and until now have sections in the website.

But sure that's is how goes.

Wonder what kind of trailers we have after they finished the characters ones.

(i want story ones) but we get a lot of gameplay and game modes for sure.

And the opening one gonna be a blast , i was trying of imagine what crazy animation they going to put with Dance !.

I'm thinking Kanji next week, then PV2 the week after. then I'm sticking with my last prediction of Teddie > Yukiko > Naoto > something > Nanako

Looking at those, I think I appreciate how comparatively grounded P4D is, though the production is more impressive in Miku.

I think it might have been more interesting if there'd been more variety in the dancing styles in P4D though, rather than sticking so closely to J pop dancing and then just putting a few light references to the characters in. Like, if you saw that video of Chie, and removed the kicks, you probably wouldn't be able to differentiate it from, say, Rise's dances.

Then again, we haven't seen a full song yet. Maybe I'll be completely wrong!
I bet you I'm not though.

EDIT: Also not digging the psychedelic circle backgrounds that keep showing up. They look weird.

Male version if they know what's best.

Does that say "sexy lounge Tomoe" in the background? Ok then.

Obvious bias here, but I think Chie's moves look pretty fun, especially since they're the only ones not based around an actual dancing style, looks like she's just doing what she does best and having fun adapting it.

The costumes look great too, I just wish someone would ask the question to the dev staff about free play and how its going to work (character locked to song or not).

Also, completely unrelated:
It's weird how my favourites seem to tie together, Yui Horie (JP Chie) voices one of my favourite characters in Monogatari and sings my favourite opening from that show as well, I had no idea until I just looked it up.

EDIT: Chie subs are now up courtesy of Pepsiman

I liked looking up what Marie's english voice actor has done and thinking oh shit lol, she narrated
Jane Austen
for saints row 4, and played Isabeau in SMTIV. Surprised I didnt notice the second one on my own

Pretty sure it's been said Rise is wearing "underwear but not underwear"... whatever that means. Character lock is most likely in but not for that reason.

Anyways, I feel like the dances incorporate each character's personality well. Sure they're all j-pop but it goes along with the music, plus it's been alluded that Rise teaches them all so from that standpoint it makes a bit more sense. Arguing whether the characters would dance in the first place is probably a moot point though.

Personally I can't comment on whether the dances are good or not, but between Chie's kicks and Kanji's... whatever he's doing, I'll take everyone's word for it.

On thing nobody has mentioned so far is that we're not seeing a full song's dance.

What we're seeing is snippets from multiple songs edited together, so of course its going to seem less fluid and natural.

I think when the final product comes out, it's all going to gel together and look fantastic.

I'm actually really excited that they showed Chie's cheerleader uniform in that trailer, cuz it means that the guys are likely to have their super awesome Cheer Squad outfits as well.

If I use those and squint then I can pretend that I'm playing a new Ouendan game ;~;

I have a smile on my face after watching the chie trailer. My favorite so far.

I think it's because it exudes Chie's positive personality + the music.

It's bad that I nearly spat my coffee out when I got to the 'I know it's hard and it can hurt a lot' line in Chie's trailer.

I'm really looking forward to Kanji's trailer. I cannot wait to see his moves.

Coming from Project Diva, (and with the exception of Chie where it is intentional) we really shouldn't know one way or the other what they are wearing, otherwise it is poor camera-work and modelling.

I'm not actually sure what you mean by this?

Personally, I'm glad that they're wearing shorts under their skirts. I am both surprised and impressed by it.

They'd kind of have to be in order to not panty flash the audience every ten seconds. Yukiko in particular, seeing as her dance style is based off ballet.

They also probably wanted to avoid the dancing game becoming CERO C or something too. :p

I'm not actually sure what you mean by this?

I think they're implying that the Magic Skirt trope should be fully invoked, which I don't agree with.

I mean, the game as a whole is surprisingly not sexualised. Which is good.

Also I bet you her actual dancing isn't very ballet at all. :p

But... they're physics based... I guess they could attach the sides to the characters legs? But then that would mostly remove any reason have physics on it and would look dumb.

Wasn't that just for Chie? And didn't she always do that?

Rise does in Dancing All Night, and apparently Yukiko does too. And I doubt those three wear shorts but Naoto doesn't.

As far as the rhythm game mode goes, in all the possible combinations of costumes, characters and songs in Project Diva, there is never a case (or it is rare, I haven't noticed) where you would be able to tell what one is actually wearing down there. Because the camera and choreography is fixed and things are intentionally placed so that you don't have revealing angles or positions. If it happens, it's a mistake.

Spats is just an alternative workaround to the problem, that might allow for more varied movement like in Chie's case.

In Diva Room or areas where you can directly control the camera or position of the models possibilities exist, but then the models are hidden. Doesn't seem like P4D has modes like these anyway.

I think they're implying that the Magic Skirt trope should be fully invoked, which I don't agree with.

Shouldn't be necessary unless people are flipping or cartwheeling around the place, which I don't see happening for anyone but Chie.

Well, we'll know once it comes out. Seems pretty ballet-y from what we've seen so far.

What were the other styles again for each character? I can't remember. ><;

Kanji is locking, Naoto is house, Yosuke is idol, Chie is... nothing? But really idol dancing with kung fu poses.

We haven't seen anywhere near enough to judge yet, but I don't think Yukiko's dancing looks at all like ballet, personally. I think it will be idol dancing with the occasional ballet pose.

EDIT: Just watching videos of house dancing because I didn't now what it was. Pretty cool. Very step heavy, like Wada said. It looks like there's a ton of lower body movement, and very little in the way of holding poses. Naoto's a weird choice for it though.
