It's whatever we feel like doing. I usually just browse normally and take care of stuff if I see it.

As for saying I do work here, I'm probably more likely to keep it to myself in light of how seriously people tend to be with their hatred of the staff elsewhere.

Whoa what?!?

BTW, EskimoJoe Gold is having a deal right now. If you commit to a year long subscription, I'll give you the first two months free. That's free access to exclusive EskimoJoe Posts, Daily Motivational PMs from EskimoJoe himself, and a guarantee that EskimoJoe will post in at least one thread of yours a week. All those benefits, and more! It's a bargain, so don't delay!

Is there a platinum plan where I can get a weekly poem?

When I was in high school, me and my friends were obsessed with games and browsed GAF daily. Since moving onto college, even though I've met a lot of people who game a lot and beyond the typical Call of Duty/ Madden popular titles I've only met a single person who knows GAF, and he doesn't read it or have an account, he's just heard of it.

Meanwhile everyone's at least heard of Reddit.

Maybe my experience isn't normal but it seems to me that despite its influence in the industry and among the hardcore, GAF really isn't known outside those communities.

So yeah, working at GAF may be a personal dream, but I'm not sure how cool it'd be to advertise it outside of e3 or PAX or whatever.

I'm not a gold believer, sorry.

There is no Platinum, but EskimoJoe Gold Members get a discount in the EskimoJoe Store, where you can buy the printed collection of all my greatest Neogaf based poems. Volume 3 was just released and has a really great sonnet about how to wipe your ass.

I'm not a gold believer, sorry.

I'm trying to free your mind, Floridian. But I can only show you the door. You're the one that has to walk through it.

People spend hours creating free content OTs for a for profit website. Mods spend hours cultivating a community for free for a for profit website. One person profits from it all.

I enjoy the contrast between this dynamic and the general forum attitude toward, say, increase of minimum wage or just compensation for work done.

I honestly don't see how being accused of being a SJW is a bad thing...and honestly, especially if you're a white dude, it probably means you are capable of empathy.

OH MY GOD A BUNCH OF PEOPLE AGAINST BEING SEXIST RACIST DOXXING ASSHOLES. YOU SJWS.

It's not. Nobody on staff is offended when someone calls us "SJWs." They mean it as a heavy-handed pejorative, but it's not insulting to those it's slung at. I even had the tag "Openly SJW" a while ago in response to something someone said to me.

A neoGAF news website? Maybe with great journalistic reports such as

"Should you wear condoms for bj's? You'll never believe the answer!"

"When he told his cousin THIS you'll be amazed at his girlfriends reaction!"

"Dark souls is the answer for every gaming question"

"Top 100 first posts"

"Mods hate him! How to tread the line between funny post and ban worthy post"

This isn't communism, AJ.
Let dictatorship be so anarchy doesn't ensue.

Yeah I was thinking about just that the other day. I wanted to see how many members GAF currently has and was surprised that it's "only" ~150,000 (and I bet a large portion of them don't post). When you compare that with popular YouTube channels that have millions of subscribers, or Reddit (174 million users) then GAF doesn't feel that big anymore.

Although if you sort the gaming forum threads in number of Views, some threads are getting between 3 and 5 million views, which should be pretty decent in terms of ad revenue.

There is a subreddit for this.

Would be an amazing thing to say, and it be true. Imagine being paid to write official topics for the forum or moderate or handle back end stuff?

The thought crossed my mind thinking on how absolutely large and influential this forum has become over the years. It's probably THE source for most gaming news I'd imagine (GAF -> Internet -> GAF) and had me wondering when does a forum transcend into something like a full blown website similar to other loved sites like say, The Verge or IGN?

The guy (Evileore) is super busy, so maybe a Mod would be able to tell us if he's ever thought about moving the forum in that direction.

As much love as there is, there's be no shortage of folks wanting in on the action!

I doubt EviLore is as busy as you're imagining. The forum's core attraction is that its almost entirely user generated content, so I don't know what it is he could be doing all day.

If it's anything like my job, conversations would go like this:

"I work at NeoGAF for a living"

"Oh, is that like Google?"

"Sure."

The site has a closed registration policy, not an open one, so those numbers you're comparing are apples to oranges. Millions of people use NeoGAF every month and it's one of the largest websites in the world.

Yeah that makes sense. And I did add an edit to my post before seeing yours.
