Man, I really miss GEARS

Gears 1 had so much hype I'll never forget it.

I got it at a midnight release and there were easily 70 people in line that stretched out the door and around the building. People were high fiving each other, exchanging gamertags and shit it was great.

hopefully they will change the mechanics in gears 4 so the combat won't be based around wall bouncing like an idiot and more on strategy and team work.

Gears 1 was the pinnacle of my MP life. My favorite game ever for its MP. The gnasher and close quarters shooting combat were amazing. Of course, now that I'm no longer in high school and working full time, I don't have nearly as much time for gaming. But best believe if a remaster comes out for XBone... My cousin, high school bud and I will find time for Gears MP.

haha yeah it's pretty funny - spoiler from a game last gen from what, 5 years ago? if you really were a gears fan you'd most likely know that anyway.

the statute on spoilers should expire after this long.

Even if you missed a game for whatever reason... the title seems like if you were waiting to play them that it would ring alarm bells for spoilers, or at the possibility somewhere of it happening were quite high.

I don't see why OP has to censor themselves, on the other hand, shouldn't other people stop and think about spoilers before they enter the thread? If this was about Gears 4 and it was a few months/years old I'd agree but... it shipped in September 2011

There was nothing like GEOW1 MP, I played it for 3.5 years straight. Not even the sequels captured the feeling of the first GEOW in terms of it's multiplayer for some reason. They just got slower in comparison and I never knew why. It's the reason I never stuck to play the sequels as much as I did the first one. I hope the new one will get back to the old smooth feel of the first game.

I remember working at EB Games when the first Gears was released. At the time, I didn't own a 360. After selling multiple copies of the game, and hearing all sorts of amazing things about it, I went and bought a 360 after graduating highschool (2007).

A bit late to the party, but the first game I picked up was GoW. It really blew me away.

Such a fun series that didn't take itself too seriously. Ludicrously fun gun-play too, I haven't played another third person shooter that controls as well or is as satisfying for shooting.

Gears 3 MP was still "alive" last time I played(2 wks or so).
Easily the game I have played the most on any platform.

I'll most likely get an Xbox One for the next Gears installment (collection included) and Halo 5.

Recently binged throught Gears 1 and 2 in a single session with a buddy who had only glimpsed at the glorious co-op experience that is Gears.

There's really not anything like it out there right now. Lots of friends were playing it, getting together for couch sessions of Horde with two 360's hooked up locally, the works. I miss the experience and am sorta baffled after the onslaught of cover-based shooters that followed suit there hasn't been another serious attempt at emulating the Gears success. Totally expected Sony to go the route. The Order doesn't count, no co-op.

Me too OP. What I miss most is the enemy variety. You never new what was going to come at you next. Most other shooters can't match it.

They get way smoother and faster at each iteration though. Even after playing the Gears 3 beta for the week or whatever I found it hard to get back into 2 after that because of how much better 3 felt than the rest. It was mechanically tighter and more consistent as well, just an all around improvement for the series.

I miss Gears 1 multiplayer. I loved the whole trilogy, but the sequels were never able to replicate the magic. It was such a weird, fucked up thing that could never work in this day and age though.

I have all the Gears games backlogged because I don't have anyone who can play through them with me co-op. I tried playing with the AI and in the very first game Dom kept running into an area of darkness and getting insta-killed by these bat-like creatures. No amount of reloading fixed it, his AI would continue running into this spot and getting killed.

Shame, the series was the main reason I finally picked up a 360.

We were getting really sentimental about the game the other night. From Gears 1 - 3 we played the crap out of, any spare time which was pretty much always because we were younger then. I have lots of recording of our old Gears matches and how we often steam rolled oppositions and our party chats during those time :') Good times. I miss it. Please Microsoft make a good versus mode in Gears 4 and not the complete taint Judgement. I want to play Gears again.

I don't have a 360 anymore and just want to play Gears 3 ranked one more time, it's been like 2 years :[

This part in the trailer back in the day got me so hyped.

Great commercials for that franchise, I want a new one even more now. :(

Oh man that's a great one, 2 really disappointed me but the last day trailer was great, the feeling of impeding doom due to the dropship to the locust hive

So goood

Awesome franchise. Hoping we get a Gears collection on the One. Also pumped to see a current gem version of the franchise under the new Dev team.

This was fantastic.

Microsoft just could not be beaten on marketing in the 360 era.

Best campaign - 2
Fave multiplayer - 3
Biggest wow these visuals at the time - 1

I really want to see gears 3 multi on xbox one, collection or otherwise.

I just really hope the new Gears is a sequel and not a prequel. And bring locust back o the multiplayer please.

Either way Rod Fergusson seems to notice the failure of Judgement and said that they cant go changing a lot of stuff so it sounds like we will be going back to Gears 3 type gameplay thankfully

I didn't feel they did. 3 maybe got close to what 1 was in terms of feel but 1 was still better overall, if you have the games now try comparing them and see how much they differ in terms of how fast each is. 2 is the slowest one in the series, followed by the third one and the first being the fastest one in terms of feel. All I felt in the later sequels is that the guns felt better/tighter and of course nicer graphics but in terms of how the feel of the gameplay is, I still found GEOW1 to be the fastest between both games including Judgement.

Is Judgement really that bad?

I could never finish 3 and lost all interest in the series, but Judgement being free on GWG has given me and my gf something new to have a bash at co-op.

Shall I plunge in or delete it to save space for AC: Black Flag (which my gf will love).

Played Gears 1 soon after release and loved it, felt like it was the reason for moving on to the 'new' console.

Plays Gears 2 very late on and couldn't get into it, never tried 3. But if (when) the next gears comes out I expect I will be purchasing it!

As a new Xbox owner, that only played and enjoyed Gears 1 on PC, I want the collection more then practically every game announced for this gen!

I really miss it too, it was my favorite multiplayer last gen, well except for Judgment which was absolutely awful.

I think Gears 3 is the best looking game on the 360 and had the best multiplayer ever. What's the population count nowadays? Haven't played in over a year.

What happened to those rumors circulating a while back about some sort of "remastered" edition for One?

Do what I did: buy a PS4 and play Last of Us multi.

Seriously though, Gears was my go to multiplayer game on 360, flat out. I played 2 first, then went back and played 1, but yeah, it was the only game I consistently played the entire time I was on 360, and a remaster might be the only thing to get me to double dip on current gen consoles.
