My steam download finally finished after about 28 hours. Now to wait until 9am Tuesday (Australian unlock time)

With work I won't be playing until about 10pm Tuesday night but I'll be anxiously reading impressions throughout the day.

Nice.

Wasn't select used to set the camera distance before? Can you still do that?

I've not played the current-gen version so I'm not sure. It's possible that the third-person distances are cycled through before first-person mode is selected.

So before i do the nuuvem thing...is this 100% working no problems as far as getting the keys and adding to your social club account is concerned?

Rockstar might have fixed their broken client overnight as I woke up to a failed download at 28.33GB. Clicked 'Try Again' and it resumed but with 55GB as the total (rather than ~60GB). For the entire remainder of the download I was getting 3.5-5MB/s and it completed (with the time left 1 Day X Hours blabla) after a lengthy verifying process.

Now I just need to move the files onto my PC and pray the client picks up on it (I started afresh on my laptop). Judging by that Reddit link earlier, I should be good though.

What are the benefits of launching it off an SSD?

The game should load faster but barely anything if at all performance wise. Maybe better texture streaming and lower pop-in or something.

Downloaded via Steam in about an hour and a half.

Comcast recently gave me 100 megabit; and it isn't just for speed boost anymore I guess.

R* said they will support 360/One and PS4 controller.

Yeah, DS4 is supported. Furthermore (according to GameStar) the game also shows the correct on-screen button prompts depending on which controller you're using.

Even the dual shock 4 ? I've always wondered how is this possible when Sony has never released official drivers.
I know Unity and FC4 support it natively too.
I'm not sure, but I think the DS4 is detected as a generic DirectInput device on Windows? So if the game supports DirectInput it should work fine with the DS4.

Ugh. My PC decided to restart during the install to install updates, now the launcher doesn't work again! This shit sucks.

i hope they will fully support the DS4. i love seeing the lightbar flash when police chase me and hearing the police radio/phone calls through the speaker.

also for those who have a One controller. that the trigger vibration works.

I'm really eager and keen to see the type of mods that come out for this.

A few awesome mods are available for GTA IV so hopefully the same will be done with this, including LCPDFR

Man, a lot of people here having difficulties downloading. Is it just an ISP thing, or was the Rockstar launcher worse off than Steam?

I had all 60 gigs done within an hour on Steam. And I get Google Fiber in like a month.

It's R*'s launcher. Not that it really bothers me a whole lot. I mean I still can't play it until tomorrow, was just a bit annoying.

Preload complete! Only took an hour on my connection, I'm one of the lucky ones!

I've gone for the Steam version out right just seems easier than dealing with the Rockstar launcher plus I like my games on Steam.

Reminder to anyone who has installed the game on a mechanical drive to defrag the drive to help with the decrypting process :D With the files cleaned up it should be a little faster to decrypt!

[Start] -> gpedit.msc -> [Computer Configuration] -> [Administrative Templates] -> [Windows Components] -> [Windows Update] -> "No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations" -> Enabled

Well that's useful, thanks for the hint!

If you have the free time to do it then sure! That 4% is probably the preloaded files :) I noticed mine had a few fragmented sections.

This is going to magically make it go a 100% faster when it comes to the unlock but it should help it a bit ^.^

It's a bit of a shame that my friend has resorted to a torrent @ 10MB/s as RSC (100kbps) is so slow to preload.

I did the same, the rsc installer sucked bigtime for me - constant speed drops, connection fail errors and lost progress.
Just downloaded from torrents and pasted everything to install folder. Hopefully everything will work on release day.

I have the preload installed on my Win 7 PC but want to move it to another PC running Win 8.1 with a SSD, does anyone know if i can simply copy the GTA V folder and move across?

As confirmed above, you can definitely do this. What you'll do on your Windows 8.1 machine is start the download on Steam and then pause it. After that, move the the depotcache folder and appmanifest.acf file from the Win7 PC to the steamapps directory on the 8.1 machine. Then restart the download and it'll show the Pre-load as being complete.

Since he is just moving it to another computer those steps are a bit unnecessary. Just grab the content of the depotcache folder and put it in the depotcache on the other PC. Click the pre-load button in Steam and select the same drive for the install and it will just finish up right away.

Yeah, I know how Steam works ;), but typing on mobile is frustrating. In practice, though, the only comparatively unnecessary step is moving the manifest file (although moving the dc folder would save him some time on release day).

Fuck, i selected my second HDD for the installation (don'ìt have that kind of space in the SSD), and it's just unpacking everything raw in it.
I assumed it would create a RockstarGames/GTAV folder on its own, like everything else i installed on it.

I hope i can just move the files when it's done, and i don't have to start over.

Did someone forgot Bioshock Infinite? that with Burial at The Sea is close to 100 GB ? or Final Fantasy XIII & XIII 2, well GTA V is big ok, but not as "big" as you think.

The real problem here is : Rockstar NEVER did a proper launch for PC, that mean that for the first 2 or 3 days will not work, and it is nearly sure that there will be a maxi-patch like Masterchief collection "that is still not working", anyway, I will be pleased to be wrong, but i'll buy Resident Evil Remastered just to have something during fixes

I do not PC game all that often, as my three kids suck all my time away, but I went ahead and bought this for PC on Steam. Already pre-loaded it and it has finished.

I keep hearing people talk about this Rockstar Social Club, and how they are having issues.

Is this even something I need to be worried about if I have it already downloaded on Steam?

Thanks in advance.

No, in the sense that the game download via Steam has been flawless, and you already have it successfully preloaded regardless.
Yes, in the sense that the Steam version uses Rockstar Social Club for practically everything else. So for example when it launches, chances are it will probably cave in on itself under the load of all the users trying to play
