Anyone else regret buying a Wii u?

yes, I couldn't play it with the game pad it's kinda heavy, and there is no d pad function option,by now you would guess that I didn't want to buy a game cube adapter/online adapter, and a game cube controller.

Ok I won't argue that the pad is heavy in regards to fighting games. I don't mind it myself but I can see it detracting from the experience. I guess you didn't like using a standard Wiimote in order to use a the d pad controller?

I feel like every year we go through a cycle, where in Nintendo's inevitable winter-spring drought people are regretting, and in their lavish summer-fall onslaught people are praising.

I regret picking it up when it launched that's for sure. Now the only game I play from time to time is Mario Kart 8 online, otherwise it's collecting dust.

And why do you think Bayonetta 2, Pimin 3 and Mario Kart 8 prices are still high? Because they're good !

Think about it; if gamers everywhere agreed with that statement WiiU would be doing so much better. It's low stock. Nintendo is notorious for limiting stock to create fake demand.

I do but for different reasons. It is just has been an unappealing console for me. MK8 has been the only game that makes me turn it on very once in a while.

I've learned my lesson though, no more Nintendo consoles for me. I'll stick with their handhelds.

If anything it pushes me to buy stuffs at my own schedule.
Heck it sucked when Bravely Default was sold out since I wanted that one day1.
But really I like the idea of not getting fleeced because I couldn't wait a week or 2.

I got it for ZombiU and picked the Nintendo Land pack.
The latter being what I'm currently playing and overal it's a great party system.
No regret at all.

I did and sold mine off over a year ago.

It's not a bad system or game library. I just don't have time for two consoles and much prefer the types of games on PS4. Thus the Wii U just gathered dust after that came out.

I'm fine just getting my occasional Nintendo fix on 3DS. When I have time to play online big screen I'd rather play something like Dragon Age Inquisition or Bloodborne than Mario or Smash Bros.

Even if Star Fox lands this fall, no Zelda really hurts. I would love a surprise Metroid Prime 4, but that seems doubtful. No, this Fall is going to be Star Fox and some HD remakes and maybe some B tier stuff like a kirby or yoshi or something. 3DS will be fine though.

This year the system doesn't have Bayonetta 2 to save it dude. Or Smash. Or Donkey Kong.

It has Yoshi, Xenoblade and ??? (Star Fox maybe?)

That's fucking pathetic.

my only problem with the system is that I expected an HD version of monster hunter 4. It could still happen, though.

I haven't played a lot of the games on it I own but that's my fault. I'm planning to get back into it over the summer.

I hate to say it, but that problem is on you and no one else. Capcom was always very clear that MH4 was 3ds only, so any expectations that it was coming to Wii U were manifested within yourself.

Not at all.
With Mario Kart 8, Mario 3d, Pikmin 3, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Zelda WW HD, Captain Toad, Kirby, W101, there's no regretting.

I bet Yoshi is gonna be pretty good as well.

you're forgetting Splatoon, Mario Marker, and Fatal Frame, which I'm super excited about.

Xenoblade X might end up being my GotY if it's as good as Xeno so I'm pretty happy about the lineup.

We're also so getting at least one or two more announcements in E3, can't wait.

Keep an eye out for gamestop and best buy trade offers, a few weeks ago Gamestop did a 50% bonus bump on console trade ins for a week and I traded in my refurb wii u console for $232, plus all the games I owned for another $250 or so. Ended up getting more than I paid for everything and used it to buy a new majora mask 3DS XL, $200 of steam credit, and a few PS4 games so yay on Nintendo games really holding their value over time. Might jump back if they release a LE Zelda edition or something next year, although honestly I just expect to wait it out and see what their next console is.

I totally get why some people love Wii U / the game library and thats fine with me, I just did not really like any of the games other than Bayonetta 2 and MK8. Owned almost all the rest and had no interest in playing them for more than 5 minutes at a time. Its kind of sad though to see people here attack people who say they don't like any of the games, like thats really such a crazy thing to say.

-_- I don't want to buy more stuff for this system , the game should play well enough with what I got with the system, it was mostly the Dpad missing function.
and after an hour the damn thing felt heavy.

Heavy?

Why don't you just rest the controller on your lap while you play instead of holding it in the air? The Gamepad is super comfy to use.

As for regret? Nope, the Wii U has an amazing selection of games. Where it lacks in quantity it sure makes up in quality. Mario Kart 8 and SSB4 are the best games in their respective franchises IMO.

Shocking news: Nintendo first party titles tend to keep their value in comparison to the majority of other releases.
Right. And this is a good thing. Not for the consumer in terms of saving money but in terms of sustaining a model where good games keep their value. I'm honestly not a fan of the idea that games should automatically shoot down in price within months of release.

You'll have to keep an eye out for ocassional sales and special events(anniversaries, holidays, etc). But permanent price drops on Nintendo games are very rare.

As for me, I don't regret my Wii U purchase in the slightest. In fact, I can barely keep up with quality software out there, including eshop/virtual console offerings. I have a backlog of quality titles, just purchased Affordable Space Adventures lastnight. Splatoon is right around the corner, and should keep me occupied for a while. Once Xenoblade Chronicles X lands, I can kiss any free-time goodbye. :D

I would encourage you to give Zombi U a try if you haven't yet. I can't say enough good things about the game! Plus, it's dirt cheap right now, even brand new. After that, research eshop titles you may interest you. Still though, an occasional full-priced game - that you can really enjoy - won't hurt.

I dont really play much but i dont regret it cause i everything ive played has been great.

Waiting for Xenoblade X and Zelda. They'll probably be my last games

So i dont have any regrets.

+ even though i dont play it much my sisters do. MK8 and NSMB combined play time is just over 600hours.

Being more expensive than expected is not a weird reason at all. I too find static prices for Nintendo games annoying.

That said, the Wii U library has impressed me so far, and I'm getting a lot of mileage out of Smash 4 in particular.

It's not Nintendo. Retailers can discount products they think won't sell easily. Nintendo products are not often in this case. If it was Nintendo clearly the market (which always decide) would have made used games prices to decrease to compensate their bad move.

Both retailers and people (who are selling used games) are just using common commercial sense to adjust the prices.

And I find it more sad to see a game selling for 60$ on day and less than 30$ a few months later... It's a digital product on a physical disc so the game does not play differently a few months after release. I can agree to have a premium for novelty but a price decreasing too drastically is just a sign that the product may not value the price asked at first and it's not very positive for the people behind the game (except if they see what they make as a disposable product).

Super Mario 3D World, the "main game" of 2013 and still one of the best games of the platform, was announced at E3 2013.

Yeah, it's not like we will have some of these eee-threes in next few months, sure...

Kinda, but not sorta. The only Nintendo games I tend to enjoy these days are Zelda and Smash so I'm happy to be able to play those. But at the same time, with LoZ being delayed to 2016 and me having my fill of Smash Bros, I don't see myself using the thing all that much for the rest of the year. Plus I wasn't the biggest fan of Xenoblade, so I'm not even entirety sure I'll be getting X.

I don't regret it at all. I don't own as many games for it as I would like due to finances, but it's got some amazing titles. TW101 is by far one of my favourite games of all time now, I can understand how some people can't get over the learning curve in regards to controls, but it's seriously one of the best games of 2013.

I love my Wii U, I love my GamePad and I love the eShop (look into it if you think retail games are too expensive). I even got TW101 and a few VC games for free.

I've never watched movies or browsed the Internet on it. I just enjoy it as a console.

Yes, I bought one a couple years ago for Super Mario 3D world. I got all the big games since, like Bayonetta, Smash, wonderful 101 even captain toad. The games are good, I just hate the hardware. I hate that the hardware is holding back the visuals on something like Bayonetta, the art design is great, but it just feels dated compared to other releases. But my biggest gripe is with the gamepad, it's adds little to the gameplay and feels cheap and gimmicky. I can't hold that thing in my hands without feeling like I'm some child actor in an 80's toy commercial just forcing myself to pretend like I'm having a good time.

Nintendo always had a special place in my gaming world but the Wii U just doesn't work for me and I wish they will just drop it immediately and move on to the next console.

Yoshi, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Mario Maker, Splatoon, Fatal Frame V, SSB DLC, Star Fox, and whatever is announced at E3.

That's a pretty solid year for a single company to develop.

Not one bit. I play my Wii U more than any other system in the house and I'm super excited for it's line up within the coming months.

I actually am very happy with my wii u, i can play some old games in it, finally played metroid prime trilogy and the console's own games are excellent, some of them even managed to be my favorite entry in the franchise (mario kart, dk, super mario 3d world, smash, etc).

I don't think that the wii u is the "main" console to own though depending on your tastes. I am a big nintendo fan so their offerings please me a lot. But i will still get a ps4 for naughty dog and third party offerings (rockstar games, kojima, rocksteady. etc).

Oh and right now the wii u has a lot of games that i need to buy that already released, and this year promises to have lots of great games coming out for it, and 2016 already has zelda.

Despite my Wii U being untouched for about 3 months now, not at all. I knew what I was getting into when I bought it, and despite it's infrequent use, the likes of Mario 3D World, Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8 were all can't miss GOTY candidate type games for me and I expect Xenoblade and Zelda will be as well. I just can't bring myself to pass on that kind of quality even if there isn't going to be a whole lot of it.

Speaking of Fatal Frame....I haven't played one since.....well, forever. How many are there between the Wii and Wii U?

I've wanted to try out more recent releases in the series.

First 3 are PS2 games, 4 is a Wii game, 5 is for Wii U.

You can skip them and just dive into 5.

I don't blame you, but the controller is so good and I basically use it 95% of my Wii U time.

Between Yoshi, Xenoblade, Star Fox, Mario Maker, Devil's Third, and Fatal Frame V, it looks to be the most diverse and original September-December for WiiU yet. Beats their 2012 and 2013 fall's handedly if you ask me.

I'm expecting atleast one delay, and one surprise though. So it's still all conjecture at this point.

Yeah the prices don't go down but I find they are always worth it in most cases. Bayonetta 2 is 2 games for $60 and smash and Mario kart are great values in terms of content

I can get them cheaper than the usual game when released. Up to 15 euros cheaper in places like mediamarkt.
And then it has fantastic games with tons of replayability and cheap and fair dlc.
With my PC, 3ds and vita is more than enough for me.
So no, no regrets.

The Wii U is a great console. It just has very few games I want to play outside of 1st party and virtual console games. The amazing part is the few games that I do play are of amazing quality.

Hell no. Bought it at launch and have like 50 games.

Why is there this weird mentality that ganes should drop drastically in price. They value their software and people value it as well. If you're not willing to pay 60 bucks for Mario kart 8 then I don't know what to tell you.

Side note: how are smash 4's controls in any way bad?
