What Does Sony Have For The Holidays?

I wouldn't expect Sony to do a PS4 price cut this year. It seems unnecessary. I would think that not even Sony's 1st party support has been even the biggest three factors to the PS4's success anyway.

Im p sure itll get a price cut this year cause even the ps2 did after being out 2 years.

PS4 is in its 2nd year right now so thats what im basing it on. The question i see which is more important is will it be dropped by
50 or 100.

You should tell that marketing strategy to the PS2, the best selling console of all time. They also were selling well and cut the price off. To me, it's stupid that Sony didn't do this last holidays. They will win this generation no matter what, the question is by how much. We are at an age where getting the early adopters is massive since they buy the console their friends buy. My best friend bought a PS4 mostly for me. His brother then bought a PS4 to play with him and me. My other best friends wanted to buy an X1 no matter what yet is buying a PS4 this holiday to play with us. Sony could have gotten the 3-year 'early' adopters on board last holidays and would have been selling better now.

I wonder how Sony would feel if Battlefront gets pushed back to Q1-Q2 2016 if they don't have a big IP for the end of the year.

It's actually kinda hilarious how quite a few of Sony's big partnership games got delayed.

Watch_Dogs, Batman, Destiny(kind of), Hardline. And surprisingly, most of them have actually been beneficial in their own way, because other Hardline, two of them have given boost to the PS4 sales in pre-season months, and let's be real, that Batman bundle will sell like crazy too.

Battlefront won't be delayed. They're not missing out on the movie window even if they have to ship another BF4 :p

Ah so you know Sony's lineup for the rest of the year. Excellent, can you share the details with the rest of the class?

Right now they don't have any big exclusive for the holiday. Which is exactly what I said and what you quoted.
It is a true statement, like it or not.

So have anyone asked the reverse question? What does M.S. have until the end of October? Also do indie/downloadable games count now or is it still off limits?

They'll ship with 2 maps if they have to. =P

Any ip owned by EA they could delay without issue, but a star wars IP game that is now owned by Disney of all companies and with a movie at the same time, there is no way EA would let it slip. They will take other teams and studios to meet that deadline if they have to. You really don't want to piss off Disney.

if it's sarcasm, then yes. if it's excusing nintendo in this argument, then no. not in my book.
Nintendo gets a "pass" because they have a much larger stable of titles and they don't fall back on the same ones year after year. If Microsoft mixed in some more Crackdown, Jade Empire, Azurik, Perfect Dark, Midtown Madness, etc., they would get a pass too.

How is Sony going to handle the marketing of Battlefront and the other big IP? These two games releasing so close to each other and they're targeting the same demographic, one of them will surely got ignored, no?

I realize Sony does have a tendency to do price cuts around this time, but I don't see why it needs to. Competitively, Xbox One isn't really much of a threat. The longer Sony waits to do a price cut, then they'll be able to make more money off of its hardware sales, or at least break even on it. Why the rush? The install base growth is healthy.

What is big and what isn't ? Isn't Ratchet & Clank big ? Aren't Dragon Quest and Persona 5 big ? The huge number of titles that are indeed individually more "modest" than Halo or Uncharted is indeed big imo.

Why do none of you guys want dq heroes :(
it should be releasing around autumn/winter.
It's not a mainstream game and in no way can compete with Tomb Raider let alone Halo 5.

Let's get this out of the way, since people still have trouble understanding it:
-Sony has games for the holiday.
-They have exclusives.(Dragon Quest/Ratchet n Clank/etc)
-They have 3rd party support

What they don't have is a AAA exclusive. Something only available on their console that will get people. I don't see how this is so hard for some people to understand.

Sony is not doomed. They just revealed a Star Wars Battlefront marketing deal with EA. That's going to be huge.
So have anyone asked the reverse question? What does M.S. have until the end of October? Also do indie/downloadable games count now or is it still off limits?
Count towards what? Remember that no one is saying that "Console X or Y haz no gamez".

Even though they don't seem to have an AAA title for the Holiday, I am personally satisfied with the smaller releases throughout the whole years.

God of War III: Remastered, Until Dawn, Tearaway: Unfolded and Ratchet & Clank.

I still wonder if they don't have an announcement ready at E3. Dunno.

Oh yeah, forgot about Persona 5. That one is huge and will sell loads of copies, just like Bloodborne did. It's not that niche game anymore, it have grown immensely since Persona 4.

What game could Sony realistically release this holiday season that targets the same demographic as Battlefront? Sony's not really known for their super successful multiplayer FPS.

I think if there's another unannounced retail game coming from Sony this year, which I believe is going to happen, then it won't have much in common with Battlefront.

so what? it is still the same IPs for the last 10, 20 years. if nintendo gets a "pass" then it does not make sense to say all mS is doing is rehashing the "same old tired franchises" which i've seen someone say here before.

How are R&C or P5 anything but AAA games... ?
Is this a serious question? They sell nowhere near as much as a COD/Fifa/Battlefront will.

None of those games are big. In fact all of those games can be considered niche.

You see a game like Persona 5 just can not be Sony's(or anyone else) big holiday flagship title. It's just not mainstream enough. JRPGs are niche. They don't sell anywhere near as much as an FPS.

The holidays are all about creating this huge buzz around your product. Games like Call Of Duty in particular is hugely popular because its what the cool kids are playing. People will buy these kinds of games to play with their friends. That's where marketing deals come in and why they are very important. Xbox has a COD partnership so naturally the game is more associated with that platform so if Little Jimmy gets an Xbox for Christmas, so will Little Jimmy's Cousin because they want to play the new Call Of Doody together.

It will be interesting how Sony will approach this holiday season. Microsoft got bigger guns than last holiday this year. I love the competition. In it to win it.

I don't really understand why Sony needs to have one AAA title for the holiday season. I'd rather have Sony make multiple releases of smaller titles that cover a wide variety of genres, which is what the company is doing now. The latter strategy helps grab fans of multiple genres rather than just one or two.

And yeah, the Persona series has gone a long way since P4. Ever since, it has gotten P3P, P4: Golden, P4 & P4 Golden: The Animation, the Persona 3 movies, P4 Arena, Persona Q, and soon, P4: DAN.

People keep talking Halo like it really matters anymore. COD ate their base, Halo 4 and MCC sullied the brand, and it'll be releasing during a glut of first person shooters. The bump people percieve it'll give Microsoft is over exaggerated based off hype.

AAA exclusives are great and good for a push in Holiday season but non hardcore gamers don't give much of a fuck about those. Sony lined up some great games to market for the holiday season and has a pretty good variety of releases. but they spent the rest of the year coasting while Sony has been pretty consistant with a mox of exclusive and third party releases. Any ground made up by Microsoft won't get caught up to Sony and any person who thinks the 4 is gonna get slaughtered hasn't been paying attention orthinking critically. We should be glad that Sony has the balls to take a hit for a game to cook instead of shove shit for sells. We see how pushing something before it's ready has affected titles this gen anyway.

what do you mean? the destiny bundle was announced long before its release, and batman's was announced ahead of time as well

Not 7 months in advance. It was announced at E3 for September release and Sony didn't have 2 other big third party games before it, like they do this year. They'll get the other 2 bundles out of the way first before announcing a Star Wars one.

Halo 4 shattered records. MCC wasn't a new Halo. Halo 5 is gonna be huge.

Sony already said the PS4 was designed for price cuts. $299 after two years on the market doesn't necessarily mean taking a loss.

alright. admittedly i guess because i did not fully get the discussion you were having with the other guy, i'm a little confused but it doesn't matter. i get your point for the most part.

Halo 4 was the first new numbered follow-up from the ridiculously successful and popular Halo 3. It's also released in 2012, where the 360 install base was much stronger than during Halo 3 and is healthy.

Halo 5 will do tremendously well because it's Halo, but it's entering the ring without the same advantages that carried Halo 4's launch.

Of course they won't sell as much as Call of Duty. They are still high production value retail titles made by big studios and from million sellers franchise. How is this not considered AAA... ? If we consider the question on a purely qualitative standpoint, those are great games, end of the story.

If we consider the charts, it's not that easy. On one side, Halo will probably sell a lot more than any of those titles. But people that like Halo probably already have an Xbox One, so how many console will that game really sells ? Same problem with Forza 6 really. On the other side, Ratchet & Clank, Persona 5, Dragon Quest Heroes (and others...) really bring something new, and some of those games have strong fanbase that will likely buy a console to play those games.

To sum up, we shouldn't be worried about how PS4 will perform during Q4 2015 (it will do great, and if Xbox sells a couple of hundred thousands units more during a few month, why should Sony care ?) and we shouldn't be worried about not having games to play during that times, cause obviously there are plenty of great games coming !

You mean if it will be announced?

If that is the case, we can be pretty sure that the annoinced game won't be an FPS, we can be also sure that it won't be TPS (since there is no way it would be planned with Uncharted release).

cool. and considering how Ps4s have been flying off the shelves thus far, imagine what will spark once the price cut is in effect.lol

I'm expecting $299 price for the Fall and a really promising exclusive(possibly 3rd party) that will be revealed at E3. I think that is a fairly realistic scenario.

It shattered records and then the online base died. Thinking people weren't soured by MCC fuck ups is silly and while I don't think 5 won't be a decent seller I don't think it will be something that will suddenly turn the ship in regards to system sales.

Also while I'll resign from talking about the quality of the game, if they are still chasing COD design they'll be facing the same issues 4 had as well as make many people on the fence disregard the game for not bringing the Halo style people enjoy to a new experience.

I will never understand this online base died shit. This is fucking 2015. When even games like Bloodborne comes with multiplayer mode. This isnt 2007 anymore where thousands of player stick on playing same game. Online community will die regardless of how good the game is. There is just so much more to play right now. Halo 5 multiplayer beta is already been praised, they are getting some shit done and addressing the problems. Its gonna be good.

In this day and age, 15-20k player base after a month is good.

Halo 4 sold less than Halo 3 while having the advantage of having a larger install base. It sold faster (in the U.S.), but not more.
Halo 4 and MCC killed a LOT of fanfare and enthusiasm for the series. Halo 5 probably won't be as big as a success as you want it to be.

15/20k is good for a flagship AAA title with a previously established franchise like Halo? It's maybe good for The Black Ops 2 port on Wii U, not for Halo months after launch

It looks good if we weren't talking about a triple A franchise. I thought we were talking about a triple A franchise averaging free to play online title numbers.

I didn't know that was the case (Halo 4 selling less then 3 overall).

Do we have LTD numbers for the Halo series and in particular, Halo 3 and 4?

MS has never specifically stated that Halo 4 has sold less/more, but they did call it 'the best selling Halo game at launch year' which translates to 'we had an awesome launch, but the legs were terrible compared to Halo 3."

I don't get how or why people hype marketing deals as if they were exclusives, I mean as far I remember BF Hard line had a marketing deal with Sony and still sold more on the xbone.
