There will always be consistent grumbling about the Chalice Dungeons. My post history shows the same. Grind, boring, etc... However, the more I play them, the more I enjoy them. I'm not sure why I didn't see it but they are pretty much a Bloody Palace (DMC if that even needs to be said) for BB. Actually even better than Bloody Palace would be Onimusha's Dark Realm.

The kids might not remember this one though. All the way back in 2001. It was more of an adventure BP.

Point is, dungeons keep growing on me more and more. They are optional and unique bosses/enemies to play with.

Are the chalice dungeons part of story progression? Do they add anything to the main game/story or are they just pretty much end-game grindy stuff (don't mean this in a bad way)? No spoilers please!

oh my god the pevepeee is working

the peeeveepeee is workiiiiiiiiiing

Edit: Also i can confirm that the body types change on your existing character. My main just got buff as fuck. So good.

Lovely.

Other good ones I've seen

[OT++++] Chalice in Wonderland

[OT++++] Just Kos
These are great. Just Kos (some say kosm) is awesome.
BLB down in the ithyll chalice, is the final boss in the 3rd level or do i have 2 more to go?
3rd level.
[OT++++] Tonight, 1.03 joins the hunt
This is interesting but OT 5 will last a while and other patches will be out.

They're really not grindy at all if you explore every layer as you progress through the dungeons.

Is that
the headless bloodletting beast? If so, then you just have one more floor and you're done.

Man, that brings back memories. I'll probably try out the root chalice dungeons, because the few that I did were pretty enjoyable. I think it would be great if they could add more enemies from the main game to spice things up. I really enjoy the unique enemies and bosses, but the randomized dungeons should go crazy and create some really unpredictable set-ups.

Grindy was not a good word probably!
I just meant that it's for "extra stuff", to gain more levels and that sort of thing!

I just want to know if they are part of the story/lore progression of the game or considered an "extra"

They're extra. You can uncover some extra lore from the items you get, but it's pretty much separate from the main game.

Seems I'm at the last boss. But I still haven't been to at least one area, and I only have three chalices that I've never tried or even created. Should I do that before finishing the game? I'm lvl 100 if it matters. Is there a checklist somewhere over stuff you ought to do before heading into NG+ (I assume you're forced to after beating the last boss?)

So I have a really silly question and I know Im asking this to all the Bloodborne fans.

I have never played a Souls game before. But I heard this and those games are awesome. I'm not so afraid of the difficulty but I really don't want to play and feel lost. In Bloodborne, I know the game is famed for not holding your hand, but are you supposed to figure out all mechanics by yourself? Will I ever feel lost and have to do research outside the game on what I need to do?

Furthermore, the co-op seemed interesting. If I wanted to, could I play co-op whenever I wanted to or even go through the whole game co-op?

Abhorrent Beast @ Lower Loran down. This time I couldn't cheese it with poison knives. Had to do it the hard way.

I was down on 0 vials and barely kicked his ass. So intense...

Agreed, this would have been a realistic task. Maybe it was just tough on balance testing or QA. Maybe performance concerns considering
Loran Beast
chugs the system, for example. Or since the environments were limited to the lego set of current, it felt off having such variety. Some enemies make more sense in their own settings.
I really enjoy the unique enemies and bosses, but the randomized dungeons should go crazy and create some really unpredictable set-ups.
We should probably be thankful we got the small variety we did considering features like beast mode, dead doors, etc... were cut. Of course it is totally warranted to ask for more considering the main story line. If they didn't set the bar high with their assets, we would be none the wiser.

You'll keep your chalices in NG+, and the difficultly of the chalices won't go up with NG+.

Just to warn you, those first, low-level chalices are going to have trivial difficulty for you at level 100, and trivial rewards as well.

There is definitely a learning curve. Don't let it put you off. Just consider the first 3-5 hours an investment in your gaming skills. The mechanics are not too difficult, but can be a bit obtuse in figuring out without a formal tutorial. Pay attention to the developer comments left on the ground.

You may have to do some research to access optional areas as they are notoriously convoluted to access. The main campaign is pretty straightforward though.

Coop is transient. You can only do it until a boss is beaten and then have to reinitiate it. You can do it for the whole game, but you will enjoy it more of you do more of the game solo. By all means, check out the coop, but don't use it as a crutch.

So I am close to the end of the game and looked at a walkthrough to see that most of the areas left are optional. How many people finished all the optional areas? I guess I can't go back and complete/explore these areas later, so conflicted on what to do.

I did them all. All are fairly short and fun. You can do them any time prior to beating the final boss since that will start NG+.

Thank you. I appreciate it. I don't mind the hard difficulty as long as it means a friend can help me here and there instead. To me, the game looks impressive purely from an art point of view. I enjoy nothing in a game more than a sense of atmosphere.

And by mechanics, I mean such as what runes are, skills, pick ups, etc. Also, where to go. Don't really enjoy getting lost in a game where I don't know where to go at all.

First of all do not lock on, I wasn't able to doge his attacks while locked on, but I am pretty sure you already figuered that one out. Try to stay in medium range to the boss.

For the first phase, whenever he starts his 'ranged attack' (shooting blood) run as fast as possible towards him (his projectiels won't hit you) and hit his throat. After a couple of good hits he will get staggered and you can perform a visceral attack (weak point is still his throat)

The boss telegraphs his attack pretty well and he is not as relentless as the dark
beast of loran
for example. Whenever he does his 'normal' smash combo just roll towards his legs, with some training he won't hit you and you can hit his legs one to two times.

At least that worked for me

And do not give up. I needed four days for
defiled amygdala
...

ok. i have already mastered the first part (waiting for ranged, then overhead). unfortunately, he eventually gets into a zone where he just sort of marches at me endlessly and stops doing ranged attacks. at that point, he invariable crushes me. I'll try rolling towards his legs more... maybe that will stop him. i think maybe i try to roll behind him rather than towards legs, and it never does any good.

EdIT -- do i keep rolling till he's done? or just get near his legs and wait? get near his legs and slash? i'm getting smashed.

My Bloodtinge build is getting kinda rough now. Because I can't level any offensive stat, Im doing really shit damage with my cane. Cannot wait to finally get my BT weapons because it's kinda annoying.

Meanwhile my SL 120 character is getting a lot of matches in PvP! Thanks god finally!

Its clear how better the netcode runs now, there's a lot of ghost around now.

You will miss stuff for sure, but keep your eyes open, stuff is easy to find. Always explore every path you see.

The level layouts are misleadingly complex. They are much more linear than they appear. It is labrynthine with lots of little offshoots for hidden treasure, but the main path is usually straightforward that unlocks shortcuts as you progress. Brilliant level design.

So, is there any good loot in the chalice lower hintertomb layer 3 area which is right before the elder boss? It's a swamp like 5-2 in Demon's Souls.

So should I wait or not? :D Could I create them now so they're ready for when I need them in NG+? Or do I need to remake them anyway?

I just finished exams two day ago, I am way more than super stoked to dig my teeth into a new From game. My ps4 has been collecting dust recently.

Final boss battle is within my reach and I'm now just going through the major secrets and (superb) optional areas before moving on.

Amazing game. Everyone needs to play it.
