Been reading a lootttt of comic books recently, just got Marvel Unlimited free for a month using that Star wars promo; fantastic service, been using it on my iPad/iPhone. Reading Ulitmate Spider-Man which is superb so far. Thanos Quest was also fucking amazinnggggg, pls adapt that for Avengers 3 Pt 1/2, Russo bros!
Also been using Comixology which is pretty good. Bought Marvels (which was incredible, it could be made into a really good TV show/film imo) and Superior Foes of Spider-Man #1 (which was fucking hilarious, lol) Need to get some more of them.
Is All-Star Superman really worth the £13.99 on Comixology? I've heard it's a must-read comic, even if you're not really a fan of the character (which I'm not)

I'm up to issue 14 of Guardians of the Galaxy (08-13) should I stop to read Inhumans and/or War of Kings or am I fine to plow right through?
Retroworld is cool and fits your bill. No superheroes and I'd describe the esthetic as half Mad Max and half Dune.
Try Universal War One and The Incal.
Though frankly books and short stories will still get you the best sci fi both past and present. None of the other mediums are even close. I say this as a big consumer of sci fi in all its forms.

I mean, I find USM consistently decent until the "reboot", but it sure got messy in the later arcs due to the increasing forced team ups, but still an entertaining read

Never read flash comics but I hear good things about Geoff Johns and Mark Waid's runs. New 52 seemingly has been pleasant as well.

2) is Dark Horse digital really booty buttcheeks? that sucks, they have an awesome catalog
3) while we're at it, what's a good/cheap cover for said tablet? id just dig a simple one that covers it when its in my bag, doesnt need to be more than that
4) how can we get Ellis back onto Moon Knight for another arc

That was my first graphic novel ever and let me tell you, it certainly made an impression. Batman's my favorite superhero and it's pretty much thanks to Hush. I love, just love the whole opening when he's methodically subduing guys.
And yes, totally agree on the art

I bought Gotham by Gaslight or whatever, Victorian Batman. I'm not sure about the setting, I bought it because it was 99 cents and it had art by Mike Mignola (love the hellboy graphic novels). Maybe it's not good I don't know, at least it'll be nice to look at.

Oh totally, but honestly now that I've dove headlong into comics, I think the medium has surpassed movies and tv in terms of interesting stories and other aspects. I loved Interstellar and District 9 and Terminator. But comics can portray scenes and landscapes and beings on a scope and scale that would be impossible to show on screen

Has anyone picked up Marvel's Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The Empire Book 1?
Well, I read it. It was as terrible as everyone said. Not just stupid plot-wise but just ineptly written in every sense.
So I'm fairly new to comics. Have read the more mainstream/famous/standout comics friends have recommend over the years and then more recently a bunch of the MCU tie-ins but not much else. I recently grabbed the first 6 volumes of essential x-men off ebay for £20 and have been reading thru those in black and white for the last month or two.
Anyway, I saw this thread and figured I'd try out Marvel Unlimited to see them in colour.
I've been using Marvel Unlimited on iphone 6+ for a week now, i'm loving the access to all of the content, I've read more comics this past week than ever before in my life - it's fantastic!
But that app itself is a piece of shit.
- Constantly fails to download stuff, requiring a restart and often a full uninstall/reinstall to fix. Sometimes it just says "failed to get resource" and you can try again and its fine, sometimes it seems to only get the first 3 or 4 pages and then after that nothing you can do will ever make it get the rest short of re-installing the app from scratch. Especially annoying if you think you have downloaded a comic locally to read on the way to work only to find it stops after 3 pages...
- Constantly crashes doing the most minor stuff - search for a series, change the sort order. Crash. Tap on the comic I was reading last night to carry on this morning. Crash. Or, just display a blank black screen requiring me to go out and back in again to get anything to display.
- The panel flow view is really nice, 95% of the time, but it does often result in cropped speech bubbles or entire panels being missed. Which is frustrating, but at least you can double tap to get out of it and then pan/zoom around manually to get the missing bits in view.
I've had not experience with how the app has been since it was released, but the current state of it does not make for a pleasant experience. Using the desktop version is an much better experience.
I'm in two minds whether to continue my subscription after this month is up, or if I will just dip in for a month now and then when there is an offer and/or a series I fancy reading.

Wait, did you say the desktop version of Marvel Unlimited is better than the app version? Because for years now, the desktop version has been the shittiest thing I've ever regularly used ever, and the most recent update only made it 10x worse
Switching to the app has been a godsend. I haven't had any of the issues you described, except for the odd loading resource error. No crashes
hmm, what device are you using for the mobile app? Maybe it's just my phone? It's really distractingly bad. The desktop one is far and away the better experience compared to what I've experienced with the app on iphone
I just got a free month's subscription (PROMO CODE: ULTRON) today and I'm viewing comics on an iPad Air. Works beautifully. I wonder if it might be to do with the size of the screen? I can't imagine an iPhone being the best thing to read on.
I really like this subscription model. I'm not really all that into Marvel but the new Avengers and Daredevil stuff has been really good so I'm interested to see what the comics have to offer. I'm frustrated by the lack of a similar model with Comixology, especially when I can buy a graphic novel in print for just a couple pounds more or so. If they offered a subscription I would be all over that.

I just got Marvel unlimited and went head-first into Infinity Gauntlet, but it's a bit daunting. I feel like reading smaller stuff that's more personal.
Stuff I would like to read:
An Iron Man run about his ego and alcoholism.
An Ant-Man run that's about the character Ant-Man.
A Spider-Man run that's about Peter and his day to day struggle juggling his personal- and superhero-life.
Something interesting about The Punisher.
I'm really up for any character as long as the run is somewhat scaled back and more about an interesting character than a ludicrous and intergalactic event across several universes.

I'm having these exact problems - I chalked it up to using an iPad 2 but it's a pain in the ass. Just the other day for example I download 12 issues for offline reading cause I knew I'd be on a plane and they all dl successfully but when I go to read them I get a source error and when I check my library again they're all gone. Now I'm in a place with wifi but I'm lucky to get an issue to dl once in about 20 tries. I have to just straight up uninstall and reinstall the app sometimes to get it to work again.
Now having said all that - I still haven't had a problem with the iPhone 6 version. So maybe it's just a compatibility issue.

Ultimate Spiderman is so dope. I read through the entire run in 4 days when I first got into it. That was only like 2-3 yrs ago so it was a lot of comics.

I don't use the app on my 6+ (because I dislike their smart panels and it would be a pain to read comics otherwise) so all my experience with their app has been on an iPad Mini 2

Ant-Man- Can't even think of any Ant-Man runs off the top of my head, Avengers #59 is where Yellowjacket appears, you might wanna check that out. Avengers Academy has Ant-Man play a bigger role. Also Scott Lang had his own short mini-series.
Spider-Man - Any early 60s, 70s, and 80s Spider-Man comic.
The Punisher - Franken-Castle. Or anything by Garth Ennis

There are three Ant-Men. I can recommend Avengers Academy, which has Hank Pym mentoring a team of newbie superheroes. There's also Irredeemable Ant-Man, which is the third guy Eric O'Grady. As far as Scott Lang, maybe Matt Fraction's FF?
Ultimate Spider-Man, or the JMS run (starts with The Amazing Spider-Man: Coming Home)
Greg Rucka's Punisher and Punisher: War Zone
Also, you need Hawkeye in your life if scaled-back superheroes is what you want.

Just finished my first DC and first Batman comic - The Dark Knight Returns. Kinda has me wanting a grungy late 70s / early 80s style Batman movie in the style of The Warriors and Robocop.
