PT no longer downloadable in US (and EU/UK) even with license

I have a stock ps4 with P.T. installed (with newbie PSN account). Bought it for a friend of mine, he owes me a lot of beer.. also should be considered a life debt to me..

To be honest I wasn't all that keen on getting MGS5 to begin with, but this seals any possibility I'd ever buy it. Best they can hope for is I pick it up used somewhere for next to nothing. Konami can take a big suck off my ass.

Insert this users token fuck konami here.
Thank god I have it downloaded.
But I gotta ask GAF, I was about to upgrade to a 2TB for my PS4.
Will I lose PT?
Or is there a way to transfer it?

Back up your ps4 to an external hdd. Once you have put in your new 2tb drive you can then restore from the external drive and all your games/saves etc will be there Inc P.T

Apparently you can back it up for transferring. I don't know the details, never switched out a hard drive before, but people keep saying its possible.
It's possible on the PS4 to do a full hard drive back up and restore now but not choose only select pieces of content to back up. So if you back up a hard drive with P.T. on it you can restore the whole drive to a new one but there's no way at this time to just back up P.T. on its own.

Edit: beaten many times. Also I can still redownload in AU right now. Lucky for me because I really didn't think they would go this far and thought it would be safe just in the download list.

So it's still up on the store? I don't see it. Anyone got a link?
Long gone from the store. He's saying the ability to re-download it from the servers is running out because they're about to update with this week's additions to the store. Which seems likely because that's exactly what happened here in North America. Once the store updated, PT was gone.

Anyone test share play for PT demo? I've got poor internet connection, so I can't try.
Someone earlier said they share played it yesterday.

Fuck sake Konami. I was looking forward to playing this when I got a PS4 - enough that it's in my download list waiting...

At what time is the UK/EU store updating?

between 1 pm - 6pm GMT

Still works on Aussie PSN just downloaded and can play. No liscence expiry in the game information area.
Mine didn't expire either, at least it made no mention of an expiration. But it was still removed from the servers in this region. It will soon be gone from all of them, I suspect.

This isn't true.

Sony is potentially paying for bandwidth of a demo which is never going to come to fruition or make money. We should consider that they may have had a hand in this decision as well as Konami.

Then why can I still download the NBA Elite 11 demo (one of many such examples)? This angle of arguing why it was removed doesn't add up.

I played it when it was a thing but deleted it after finishing it. Not gonna miss it really. Better to not be reminded of what could have been.

I'm sorry, but if you have a PS4 and still haven't downloaded it, it's your own fault. It has been known for a while now that they'd take it off from PSN, which in result would most likely mean you couldn't download it anymore, EVEN if it's in your licence/library.

Not a care in the world for those who did not get to play it before and will never be able to? Is this sarcasm or an instance of the "bad thing does not affect me so I do not care" syndrome?

I simply don't think the sky is falling, or that Sony and Konami are evil for doing this. While it may not be an easy thing to accept, there are more reasons for them to take it down than leave it up, unfortunately, and rather than wave pitchforks and get mad, I choose to accept their reasons.

The demo was good, but not that good. And honestly, it loses an enormous amount of its appeal now that we know it's never going to amount to anything. It now merely stands as a very pretty, very short, very scary, mildly interactive experimental curiosity. If this were something like Ground Zeroes disappearing forever, then I could understand the reaction. If I hadn't played it and ended up watching a run on YouTube, I think my reaction to it being discontinued would be the same.

I presume because it's still technically available to purchase, among other reasons. Silent Hills though is never going to see the light of day, at least not in the way PT promotes it (Kojima/DelToro/Reedus). Neither Sony nor Konami have any incentive to keep the demo up. And as has been pointed out, it's also now false advertising, which can be a pretty serious issue.

Has anyone tried getting a response from Sony about this? Especially since deleting P.T. shows a message informing us that it can be redownloaded from our library in the future. Pretty sure this warrants an explanation for that at least.

Not true. See above. This goes completely against established practice. As far as I'm aware no digital game has done this before, and it raises all sorts of consumer protection issues. Thank goodness it's only happening with a free demo and not a paid title...

This has never happened before on PSN. It's no one's fault but Konami's.

Can this be emulated in the future?
Like I know that PS3 emulation isn't even a thing, but could this theoretically be done?

You don't have a license for P.T. You didn't bought it. It WAS just a free demo...
There is plenty of demos, f.i. on XBLA, from EA which doesn't work anymore...
But you can still download them...i think.

Well guess what, your license has just been revoked.

Wasn't that a little obvious? If they are completely removing the game from the server of course you won't be able to redownload it.

Is this legal?

How can take away a license?

I'm sure there's some clause in there somewhere that allows them to remove licences whenever they choose.

It being free means there's even less recourse as the consumer isn't left out of pocket with the removal of the licence.

I'm digging through the recent changes to the EU's consumer rights laws (altered last year to apply to digital goods too) and found this:

"in relation to any digital content which is supplied under the contract and which the consumer has paid for, that the trader has the right to supply that content to the consumer"

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga...here-under-a-digital-content-contract/enacted

If this was a game we'd paid for, Konami would absolutely be breaking the law. So breathe a sigh of relief that at least this can't happen to paid content - digital is fine there. But for free content like P.T? Seems there's nothing we can do about it =(

Also keep in mind that the US hasn't updated consumer rights for digital goods yet (as far as I'm aware). This might be a good time to get a petition going and kick your government into gear. The EU is protected, but at the moment I'm not sure Americans are.

Ask me again why I would never give digital download serious consideration.

Oh right, because shit like this will happen.

That's not what that means. It doesn't mean they think it's legal, it means that if a third party acts illegally you are agreeing that Sony is not accountable for their actions. It's entirely between you and the third party (in this case, Konami).

As far as I can see, since it's a free title, there is no consumer protection here. If anyone tries pulling a paid title like this, they're losing a court case before it's even begun. No reason to worry about digital games vanishing like this in the future - especially if you live in the EU. Digital goods have equal consumer protection measures as physical as of last year.

Downloading it now. Seems fine so far. Still EU should do something about protecting us from digital content which we bought taken from us.
