I was going to say that Ciri looked super derpy in that picture, but then I realized that she's most likely (Super light spoiler, we've seen this in a trailer)
a child in that shot

I could totally see CDPR releasing White Orchard as the demo, even if it's post-release.

Usually it's hard to release a demo for an open-world game, but since you've got Witcher 3 split into many areas, one of them a sort of mini open world specifically built to acclimate players to the game, it kind of makes sense from a tech standpoint. It would be similar to the Witcher 1 demo which was just Chapter 1.

This isn't some fantasy land like in GTA.

Wait, what, this isn't a fantasy? *boggle* (I'd say it's more fantasy than GTA... and GTA is constrained in its own way in how it lets you play. Try playing a good guy that tries to help people in GTA ;) ).

On the serious side, I kinda wish you could just for the ability to play how you want, but... it is a game that is more story oriented and you aren't playing your own character but a set character with a set personality (that wouldn't kill civilians). So I can see why the decision. On the other hand my biggest complaint with Witcher 2 was that it was too constrained to playing one style to fit the character (that kind of thing I associate more with linear games. I kinda like open world for more freedom. I know Witcher 2 was more a linear game with open spaces to give it a more open world feel. I'm hoping for more that I want in Witcher 3 with the world being more open).

I guess it's a good example of an open world game that isn't quite a sandbox.

In the end, I'm wanting to love Witcher 3 and I get the feeling I will love it (even though I was not as enamored of Witcher 2 as I hoped I would be. It was alright but I have to admit if I had to pick, I'd pick Elder Scrolls *ducks Witcher fans boos*). But despite it having some strengths over games like Elder Scrolls, it's why I prefer Elder Scrolls and Fallout type RPGs. Cause I prefer more games that let me write my own character and write my own story (Though I don't think that's an excuse for Bethesda's weak story writing. No, they won't have as strong a story as Witcher as they have to let the story be more open to let people play their own stories, but they could still do a helluva lot better job at the same time). I like the ability to roleplay and pretend I'm in that situation (whether rping that I'm in that situation or rping I'm a character with a different type personality than me). Honestly, to be fair, I am not really sure the two should be compared even though they always are. Because they really are different games with different things they offer. Elder Scrolls is more of a game where you rp your own character and try to write your own story with a set world. Witcher 2 is more playing a story some one has made with open ness on how he decides to reach his goals (sounds like Witcher 3 too though a lot more open ness on the how to reach the goals).

But that's why I have hope that I'll like Witcher 3 more than 2, cause it seems they were inspired by some stuff from Elder Scrolls. So I'm hoping that they come up with a good combo of some of the stuff that was good about ES (truly open world, at least more choice in how you do combat/approach challenges) while retaining strengths of Witcher (better dialogue, better story).

What on earth is up with the horse's leg?

Horses legs do not bend like that.

Having a set protagonist has its drawbacks, but the Witcher series has traditionally handled it very well, giving the player roleplaying opportunities at every turn. It may be more limited in what you can do than in, say, Elder Scrolls games, but I'd say the cost is well worth it.

A big drawback to the "you can do anything RPGs" is that it makes the story either insignificant (Elder Scrolls) or schizophrenic (Bioware games) so the Witcher compromised by putting players in the place of an established character. Like Obisidian's Alpha Protocol, it gives players a chance to experience something completely different from standard RPGs. This approach, coupled with "neutral dialog," gives the Witcher it's greatest strength: choice and consequence that actually matters.

So, yeah, I also hope that the Witcher 3 can combine a huge open world with meaningful roleplaying. But I don't mind if it's less open than other games of the genre, because what the previous games had is more important to me (in the Witcher, at least) than what being open world brings to the table.

I dont get why that downgrade comparisons on reddit/imgur dont get much attention. People would go crazy if this was Ubi or EA.

The pixels don't match up. I think we all know this. It just doesn't matter because the Witcher 3 has more going for it than just puuurrdy grafix.

What? We've had several threads complaining about downgrades months ago. Still, it's hard to complain about downgrades when the finished product still looks amazing for a game this size.

The animated cartoon trails behind arrows and swords in motion are disgusting.
It's not that big of a deal, so long as they are very brief and subtle. It helps to have some indication, no matter how small, of the direction of an enemy's projectiles in games like this; especially if you're up against multiple enemies.

That particular still isn't all that flattering, though. :p

It happens on every swing of Geralt's sword too though. Looks awful. I'd much prefer if they had faked motion blur on it subtly.

I agree that the play your own character is going to make for a weaker story, but I don't agree that it has to be how weak Skyrim's has to be. I think Fallout New Vegas showed a really good example of making a good story that really allowed you to play your own character (they did a Bethesda game better than Bethesda honestly and I really hope they get another chance at Fallout).

And I played Witcher 2 and I'd argue that I don't think they did a very good job of giving you choice in how you played. I pretty much had to play a swordsman and for example if I wanted to sneak I had to pick a path to even give me a sneak mechanic (and their sneak sucked honestly). Which kinda made it feel gamey (I don't really like to feel I'm playing a game when I play an RPG, I like to feel I'm roleplaying out a character though I do like good combat). Otherwise it was either fight it out or dialogue it out. And the world felt pretty railroaded everything considered. They tried to make it feel open world but it still felt pretty constrained.

I do have hope for Witcher 3. They at least added another combat type to try (arrows) and the more open world I'm hoping for will make it feel more free. And I'm hoping the combat is better cause at least on the console (I hear my complaints really aren't so bad on PC), the combat felt very mash buttons. And I hated the mechanic that I had to tell the computer something to aim at to make an attack (especially as it would retreat into its allies and get me surrounded if I didn't change targets. Which was really awkward to do while trying to dodge/attack). I honestly preferred Skyrim's combat (*duck*). Though honestly I would love to see combat like Dragon's Dogma combined with the better rping ability of Elder Scrolls and a stronger story.

And I really did want to love Witcher 2. I liked it, but it's definitely not a game I found that outstanding (sorry Witcher fans). For me I prefer more a game like Elder Scrolls (with the many weaknesses they have cause I"m not denying there aren't flaws there). I'm hoping Witcher 3 though will have me loving it (so far from what I've seen of the trailers I'm really excited). I mean I think I can hope this and not be naive cause it does seem they took some inspiration from Skyrim. Hopefully it gets a good mix of what was good about both (and I'm excited for trying to make choices and figure out which is best. But there is something entirely different from Elder Scrolls/Fallout where dialogue choices were more "What kind of character is your character". People complain that those are too black and white, but I think it's cause the aim of the game is different to allow you to play whatever personality you prefer. Where as Witcher you are playing a character that has a set personality but you need to choose which he thinks would be the better choice for his goals. Oh, and Skyrim did a horrible job in places of allowing you to play your personality. Try being a good guy in the thief city or wanting to destroy the assassin's guild cause you are a good guy. one you can't really do cause they don't give you the option and hte other one they punish you with a crappy quest line compared to the much better quest line if you go evil <- was a huge pet peeve of mine. I wanted to get rid of the thieve's guild and I couldn't see my character doing anything other than destroying the assassin's guild).

Are there any streams about?

I'm not on the fence (already paid off my pre-order) but I just want to see some more footage :)

No, actual question. I wasn't sure if the cpu was powerful enough.

Yes. You can pretty much max everything but Nvidia Hairworks and get a consistent 1080p 60fps. Nvidia Hairworks being pretty incredible looking but ultimately(in my opinon) not worth the hit to fps. On your card, you would most likely get a 1080p30fps with everything maxed out(Hairworks included) completely and a probable slight hit to AA as well. Your call, but 1080/60fps and dat' playability coupled with CDPR storytelling is gonna be incredible day 1 if you ask me. I'm hoping my 780 is up to the task myself. Either way I'm excited for my Geralt adventures.

Hmm Can you at least edit Geralt? Like his appearance? As the man does look pretty bland looking which has put me off playing TW games, Doesnt help he can put you to sleep when he talks aswell.

I suppose i could whack a full covered helmet to cover his dome up couldnt i?
