Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition |OT| Lara shot first

Do they lighten up on the QTEs? I just started the game for the first time and I'm really close to just shutting it down.

Yes. The game doesn't start out well, but it's just the prologue. It really opens up when you start making your way around the island. There are still some QTE's here and there, but they scale them back big time.

I wasn't really enjoying the game until I got past the first military bunker, then it starts finding it's stride and the more Rambo Lara gets, the more fun it becomes. I know folks moan about how there's more gunplay than tomb raiding, but as a fan of the originals I'm really enjoying the new direction and am looking forward to the next installment.

Played through this wide open area last night with wandering guards with flashlights and wolves and unfortunately (at least according to my experience) I think the gameplay really breaks down at this point and it's not as fun as it could be.

You see a lot of areas like this in the Metal Gear games, where you're ideally supposed to kill all of (or most) of the guards by stealth. This works great in Metal Gear because you can elude guards and go to a warning or searching state after being seen, but in my two playthroughs of this area that seemingly wasn't a possibility and the guards seemed to have a supernaturally good knowledge of your position. The addition of dogs as well makes it difficult to try to get away naturally. I'd accept that maybe it's supposed to be a bit more of a gunplay area once you inevitably screw up, but there's not a great deal of good cover so the whole area feels messy.

In my first play through I noticed that you could get up to these platforms in the trees, and after dispatching a few guys on the ground I went up there to snipe at the rest with arrows. Bizarrely though when I was up on the platforms just watching out of no where there's an alert and suddenly everyone is shooting exactly at me. It was totally absurd. If I missed with an arrow or something, then the guards should spray bullets randomly and then ran back to their cabin for cover.

I think it would have been more effective if this area was almost too easy and it served to highlight how deadly Lara has become. If you're wandering around the forest with a flash light you have no idea what is above you and no idea what is 10 metres around you and so guards should be able to be picked off with little trouble, but that situation wasn't recreated well at all.

I have seen the PC version going for only £3.75. Is the improvements for PS4 version a big enough deal.I have 7870 card by the way and a 4670k CPU.

Visually it looks great [they polished it nicely], and it delivers full TressFX experience with 50+ fps on average at 1080p. Its a best version of the game, but you decide if its worth the money. Sub 5€ is after all great deal.

There's only one section of that area that's hard. That's the last three guards on the hill that you have to seperate as they stay in their cluster (use arrows in walls). You can take everyone else out silently and with ease with enough patience.

It comes down to path choice and patience. if you're impatient then you will fail, like I did multiple times. But take it slower, wait until the guards seperate and are far from each other and literally that last part is the only section that might be an annoyance.

Looks like I'll have to start a new game to get the trophies for shooting guys off ziplines and mid-air dynamite. Bugger!

Enemies respawn in certain areas. Shantytown etc. check out ps3trophies.org they'll have them listed probably. I got those two naturally but couldn't be bothered with the pull people off ledges trophy so passed it on to my bro's

Thanks

I'm actually enjoying this game a lot more now then when I played it last year on the 360. Game is gorgeous and is just so much fun to play. Fighting is fantastic, climbing needs work. 60FPS/1080p makes big difference, all the added effects don't hurt either.

Edit: I hope the sequel retains 60FPS and maintains the visuals, the graphics are good enough, no need to improve it and sacrifice FPS

lttp, but really enjoying this far more then i expected. the production values are insane, the platforming is fun (if not a bit too hand holdy), the few puzzles are fun, and the combat is actually satisfying.

but holy shit are the voice commands TERRIBLE! my wife and i were holding a conversation this morning while i played and in the midst of it the game paused several times, went to the map, and switched weapons frequently - all from voice commands it heard in our conversation. at one point i just started laughing and my wife asked what was so funny. i told her about the mayhem our discussion was having on the game and specifically mentioned the voice commands the game thought we had said, fully expecting them to now work again as they should --- but lo and behold actually trying the commands failed!

it was enough to make me dig through the menu and turn off this "feature"

The game is pretty fun, spent big part of the weekend with it. A few (non-gameplay) annoyances though.

Why is the SFX and voice volume setting the same? The soundmix is horrible in this game, can't use my home theater system with it. Bass goes way to high, voice is muffled by SFX gah.. (infamous SS had actual soundmix settings, Home Theater setting there was awesome). So I've had to play the game with a headset, so my neighbors don't kill me

Which brings me to annoyance nr2, the voice commands work terrible when you want them to work, and randomly go into the pause meny when I sigh or breathe... (voice commands coming into play due to me using my mobile phone headset).

But all in all really fun game, enjoying it more than I thought I would, the first hour or so was a hassle to get through though.

I turned the voice commands off, they're completely useless and it's faster to tap your d-pad anyway. Also turned off the controller speaker too.

Is this game account locked?? My brother purchased the game digitally , but when i log in with my account, it says i have no license to use it :/

No, no games are account locked.

If you are using both accounts on a single console, his accounts needs to be "activated" [Settings > PSN > Activate] so that his content is shared across all local accounts [including yours]. If he has his own console, then you on your own console can play his game only if your login into his account as a "guest".

Thanks! will try this out.

Probably not yet thread-worthy because sources are not strong... but Eurogamer.it has reported that largest Tomb Raider community site form Italy has unveiled that sequel to last year's Tomb Raider reboot will be showcased at this E3.

Main UK site is not carrying this news.

How much money did the spend on making this game? So far it's been pretty amazing, although a bit surreal. One thing they did not hold back on was the production quality, game looks amazing on the PC.
The level of gore also caught me a bit off guard.

It was expensive game [really long production], but they also spent really large amount on marketing. They wanted to really promote to everyone that this is start of the new Lara.

If anyone is in need of help boosting in multiplayer to earn online trophies for their platinum, send a friend request (PS4) to commandogoomba :)

Will do, I've just 100%ed the main game, just started a new one as I missed the Chatterbox trophy, but I'm really just putting off the mulitiplayer grind. I really want at least ONE platinum in my list!

I can't wait to see where they go from here now Lara is Psycho Rambo.

Just finished the ps3 Tomb Raider. Damn, this game was fun. It was dark (color wise) but the gameplay was super fun. Story was crap tho.
I was expecting an uncharted knock off, but the game was a little different. If you were to blend this games game play with uncharted 2 you would have the undisputed best game ever.

What's up with the audio on this DE? The sound is completely distorted. The highs are totally messed up. Makes it unplayable for me. 100% the PC version and the sound was fine.

The shotgun sound is sublime I love the audio design in this game. Shotgun has the best crack I have ever heard in a long time.

Just got the game for cheap on PS4 (already played on PC, didnt feel it very much but I wanted to see the changes anyways).

Gonna get angry if CD turns back to old 2013 Lara for TR2. She looks insanely better in DE.

Does anyone have any experience with a black screen upon loading your savegame on Xbox One? I can hear some sounds but cannot do anything.
I've already tried power cycling and re syncing my cloud save.

At Shantytown right now. This game is one of the funnest rides I've had in a while. Depending on how it finishes, I think I'll rate it higher than the Uncharted games

All I need is chatterbox and the general to finish my achievements for this game. Any GAF members actually play this game online or am I the lone ranger who actually enjoys it?

Question about the No Stone Left Unturned achievement/trophy. I think my save may be glitched as the achievement will not pop. I checked my records and I do indeed have all the documents, relics, and GPS caches, even from the Cliffside area that can't be fast traveled to. Not sure what to do to get it to pop. Has anyone else encountered this?

Also, here is a screenshot from the achievement page when I compared my achievements to my friends:

Is the save glitch on ps4 fixed? Got all excited and finally started playing this. I went to pstrophies site to see what the trophy list was like then I see this mess :/

Sometimes a locked achievement with 100% progress will take a few days to unlock. It's quite annoying... I'd give it a few days and then check your achievements app to see if it unlocked for you.

Beat this last night as the first game on PS4.
Managed to 100% the single player and got all tropies except Chatterbox which I didnt even realise was a trophy till i finished the game.

I really wanted to get my first Platinum on PS4 since this is so goddamn fun but the prospect of the +60hrs to get Multiplayer trophies is not appealing...so thinking of trading in for Diablo 3 maybe.

Awesome game and looks stunning on PS4!

Wow, this thread hasn't seen a post in a while. Not sure if I'll get a reply but..

I just rented it and tried to do tomb of the lost adventurer. I can't jump on top of the plane for the life of me. Is this meant to be done later after you get geared, or can you do it in a new game?

Just started playing this tonight; got a couple of hours in. I'm a little way past
Lara killing the first dude
. So far I am enjoying it; level design is pretty nice, controls feel good and I quite like the idea of upgrading her kit. The writing is pretty weak so far though, and I find her friend Sam particularly annoying.

I'm probably 3.5 - 4 hours into this now. I am really enjoying it so far; the game world is really nice, the traversal and Lara's growing suite of equipment and abilities is fun, controls are great, visuals and animations are excellent and overall - I realise this came out a few months before The Last of Us - it feels like Naughty Dog's Greatest Hits. It's a competent and confident expansion of the gameplay and set-pieces from Uncharted into a larger semi open world environment. I don't think the writing is particularly good and Lara turns into an expert killer a little too fast, but on the whole this is really solid and well-designed.

Writing and characters are not great, but game becomes legit interesting after wolf cave and starts expanding its story in interesting supernatural ways after radio tower.

Just continue playing, game is long and you still have a lot of game to see.

Man, what is this game's obsession with hurting this poor girl though? Barely five minutes go by where she's not getting beaten, bashed, falling into shit, falling through shit, wading through gore and/or faeces and watching people get murdered. They've tried waaaay too hard to make this all seem dark and edgy.
