Witcher 3 PC Performance Thread

My God this game is gorgeous. The amount of detail in everything is staggering.

Does anyone know if there's a way to stop the camera from auto centering? I don't like the angle that the game keeps trying to force on me while I'm moving around.

not to be a dick, but why buy that cpu if you aren't? You should be able to get 4.2-4.4 without breaking a sweat. I have mine at 4.4

I never OC'd it because I don't think I ever needed and because I was kinda of afraid of overheating. It's very hot here. Anyway, I will now.

Yup, foliage distance seems to be a big one.

I have a single 970 and I'm running at 1080, Ultra everything except foliage distance at high and hairworks off. Getting solid 60.

But yeah, the AA sucks for things in the distance.

I was just going to ask about 970 performance. Pretty solid 60 is it? Might look into getting one. On 660SLI it's either High and lock to 30 or Low to get 60.

Hmm. Without hair works I get 60fps pretty steadily. With everything else maxed. Haven't messed with the .ini file.

Is there a way to expand the mini-map or to place a way point quickly rather than to have to go into the damn menu every time and then open up the world map?

Oops. I meant to put this in the main Witcher 3 thread, but someone can answer this here.

Probably won't be doing much until finals are over but with my system I am able to do a mix of Ultra/high settings at 1080p with 60 FPS.

I think he means why did you spend the extra money on a "k" model of you aren't overclocking? Btw do not overclock that thing if you are using the stock cpu cooler.

I have a 3570k with a gtx 970. Could my crashes be related to oc'ing my CPU??

I have the same setup as you. I have had 2 lockups but they were both while doing different things. I think it's just random man.

Yes, HairWorks, distance and shadows. Then you have AA/AO. Grass Density and Water are almost free, Texutre Quality is easy to crank up as well.

Seems like owners of the 900 series of cards are having bad crashing. Wonder if its the game or the new drivers released today. I think i might wait for a patch or something. Even though my 770 didnt crash but i didnt play much.

I got a 980 and its never crashed on my in 3 hours.

I don't think Geralts hair looks super better with Hairworks on. Creatures are neat but meh. I would rather max everything else and sacrifice that. It's a small loss.

oh I forgot to say that I had like five crashes during cutscenes in the first hour of the game on a 7870, but afterwards it's been pretty smooth sailing.

I do have an OC'd 4670k though.

Currently running at high with hairworks completely off and getting an average 58FPS. Game runs better than The Witcher 2 does for me. As odd as that sounds.

Edit: No overclocking

I defaulted my values for the GPU, but haven't tried the cpu

There's your next step!

Just woke up to use the loo. Game is sitting downloaded and ready. Really tempted to give it a quick go but my 970 doesn't arrive until tomorrow morning so I'd be running on my 670.

This feels like Christmas. Sleep is now nothing but something in my way.

Everything Ultra with AA off. 60+ framerate majority of the time. I've been playing for two hours and no crash or noticeable stutter. No stuttering in real time cutscenes, but it does stutter on those FMVs. Only issue I had is for some inexplicable reason you can't keybind the movement keys. You can rebind many keys but the movement keys are missing like they don't exist. Weird considering Witcher 1 and 2 allows you to rebind move keys.

Similar to me. I might get a 970. What CPU do you have?

Yikes, Kepler's (GTX 600/700 series) performing really poorly in this game. I wonder if Nvidia really are ignoring/crippling them.

Edit: It's just a chart to show relative performance of these cards in a stressful scene with stressful settings. Most cards will perform better most of the time than this, just likely not better relative to one another.

Is there anyway to disable the "controller/keyboard scheme recognized"? I must have missed it cause I've looked everywhere.

That chart is complete rubbish.

Yeah, take it with a huge grain of salt.

You might not be able to run with EVERYTHING set to ultra on a 780ti, but with like a half-and-half mix of ultra and high, I'm running at 60fps almost solid. And the game is gorgeous.

I think it's just the case of ultra for ultra's sake, despite offering almost no benefit to image quality.

Hairworks on?

I'm still only in White Orchard, but I've managed to keep a solid 30 fps at 1440p with my GTX 780 Ti OC + i7 2600k @ 4.2 ghz. All the settings are on ultra except foliage which is at high. Gameworks off and HBAO+ enabled.

I am able to run the game 1080p Low locked at 30 fps with my current rig:

i5 2500K (Stock)
GTX 570 (Stock)
8 GB RAM

The game isn't as visually stunning as it could be but everything is working well so far. Even at low settings this game is still very good looking and playable.

It will hold me over till I get my 960 here in a few days then I'll be able to make it look a bit better and hopefully lock it at 60 fps. I'm holding off on getting a higher-end card till the next generation of CPUs and GPUs are released and build a new PC then. Figured the 960 could fill the gaps for a year or two.
