I'm only a few hours in, but I really appreciate that there's not this sense of urgency to push the main quest forward to save the world, like in many/most RPGs I've played. Geralt has been on this quest for a long time, and he has time to sleep and just be a Witcher.

Juxtaposed with Mass Effect 3's REAPERS ARE EATING EARTH, and you're doing side quests of picking up peoples laundry.

The whole world is just more believable and grounded thanks to this.

Anyone found some cool light armor yet? I am doing a fast attack build, but all the light armor I have found so far is kinda lame looking.

Really loving this game. The unique world, visuals and music more than the actual gameplay honestly. I'm not that crazy about this game's combat, but everything else just destroys that issue for me. One thing that I really notice in this game compared to the other two games is the music. Fantastic stuff.

Having never played Witcher 1 or 2... should I pick up this guide for this game. From what I have seen... it looks pretty easy to get overwhelmed.

Bit of a tangent here but can someone explain this phenomenon sweeping gaf? Can someone explain this whole "based <thing/person>" thing? I think I've only ever seen it here.

Something that has to do with the rapper Lil B. He calls himself Based god.

Has anyone got a trophy/achievement yet? From 7hrs30mins of play time nothing lol.

I have gotten at least two. Both came at the same time
when I slaughtered some drunks in an inn or something in White Orchard. One was kill 5 guys without taking damage and the other was something like kill 5 people in less than 5 seconds.

Honestly I don't think it is necessary. I have never played the first two games. Don't get me wrong, the game is huge and I feel like in 10 hours I have barely scratched the surface, but I did feel like I was making progress from the get go. I'm slowly figuring everything out on my own.

Just started playing A few hours ago. Anyone else playing on the hardest difficulty? It really makes the game that more fucking awesome, combat is so intense and every fight feels like it matters no matter if it's a group of bandits or a nest of ghouls.
First time you fight a Griffin is so satisfying.

Played on the ps4 for a couple of hours last night and never played any of the other games before but I'm enjoying it very much so far. I like that the movement prevents it from being a simple hack and slash game and that you have to put some thought into your attack. I feel like I need to take a day and just learn all the systems of this beast before moving forward though, pretty much have no idea what I'm doing. Going to be a lot of sleepless nights.

Well fuck, better equip it then

Anyone know if monsters respawn at all?

I think so. Also safe areas during the day can become possibly dangerous at night, like random wolf attacks on livestock.

I also got attacked by wolves when I was burning beehives off trees to collect them.

Walking past a river bank, I encountered some drowners and it wasn't anything important.

Also there is the battlefield area that seems to constantly spawn Ghouls and Wild Dog packs.

Unfortunately I only picked up the standard PS4 edition :(

Don't worry, the PS4 CE doesn't have the deck either, it's Xbox exclusive. That's about the only thing I would have wanted from it. Maybe the medallion too. But the regular edition is so much nicer than other games anyway. You usually don't even get a manual anymore, here you get a soundtrack CD and everything. Very nice.

Didn't see the review but the loading times are pretty terrible and if you reload a save you have to watch an unskippable cutscene and THEN the loading starts. It's really annoying.

It's actually loading while that plays, if it finishes before it'll cut them off, I had it happen one time only. The loading after the cutscene is anything "leftover" that didn't finish during its duration.

I tried on the second hardest (blood and broken bones or something) but those damn ghouls at the start kept slaughtering me =( Tried three times, then dropped to normal difficulty.

My plan is to get to grips with the combat on my first playthrough, then man up on repeat playthroughs. I usually hate when harder difficulties just bump enemy damage and HP though - gets so damn repetitive. I want enemy damage up, and my damage up. So I kill faster, but also die faster. That's the kinda challenge I like. Might have to rely on mods for that...

Yes, you get exp from killing monsters after
you kill the griffin. You get a trophy that activates exp from killing monsters as long as its equipped.

Wait really? my version of that trophy gave a 10% chance to remove limbs from enemies, I did get a 5% xp boost with the noonwraith trophy tho

Just died.

Took a minute and 5 seconds to load back in.

PS4, using the default HDD.

This is probably my least favorite thing about this game. If I get myself in a position where I may die a few times trying to get out (has happened in 2 or 3 places), I have to sit there and load in for at least 45 seconds each time. PS4/default HDD as well.

Ok, so why do I get stunned when a monster attacks me while I'm blocking? Is there a skill I'm missing?

Normal attacks you can easily block, but those big lunging attacks (ghouls use them a lot when they get some distance, for example) will exhaust your stamina bar and leave you vulnerable. Dodging is key!

Also, dodge instead of roll where you can. Dodging doesn't consume stamina, and you're positioned much closer to enemies for counter-attacking afterwards. Love this combat!

I don't understand the loading screen complaints for PC, I haven't experienced a loading screen longer than 10 seconds. Dying and reloading the last autosave/quicksave loads in < 3s.

I shit you not, my game isn't even on a SSD, just a 10k RPM drive.

I think there may be something really odd going on if people are experiencing such long loading times, my PC is average and this is the fastest loading game of this size I've experienced. Even from launching the exe I'm into the world in less than 45s by skipping intro stuff.

I'm playing on Blood and Broken Bones, and aside from the opening hour or so when I was relying on food for health and had no oils yet, It's been great. It really forces me to use all the tools I have available to me. Stumbling on a nest of Ghouls isn't just a situation I can run in and clear out easily. I'll camp out on the outskirts, pull up my bestiary and see what they're weak to, then I'll set up my potions and oils accordingly, and have to be really strategic in how I handle the encounter. Loads of fun!

I just realized that the potions don't stack. So if i take swallow, i can't take two to make it last longer. why not? it has 20 seconds of recovery, and if i use another one it just refills the 20 second counter.

Ok. Who the fuck thought it was funny to make crafting materials and items so heavy?

Is there somewhere I can store my unnecessary stuff? Or what is safe to sell? Or do I simply have to dismantle it so it weighs less?

My loading times are near instant as well, BUT I'm still in the first area, that probably explains the varying reports, larger areas would need more time to load.

Just really started playing. Literally took out the drwoners by the beach and stopped at the first houses to look around.

Man, this game looks AMZING on PC, running on mostly high, a few ultra settings, and using FXAA and forcing AF to x16 in the Nvidia control panel. Man, I'm really impressed.

Anyone else playing on the hardest difficulty? Got my ass kicked by the very first monsters twice ;) But I think this difficulty will make things more interesting, combat wise..

Do you have a hybrid drive? mine are super fast, but i am pretty sure its because of my hybrid.

Same here. Load times are super quick.

Are you getting hit by a big weapon? that will eat all the stamina i think.

Running out of stamina?

That's probably it. Thanks for the replies. I'm struggling to level up and feel super weak at the moment. Only played for an hour or so though.

Wow, I got to play for a magical 3 minutes before the first freeze today. Well, more like a hard lock, earlier I've always been able to alt-tab out of the game and kill the process, now I had to reset my PC. It started out fine-ish, with a freeze every couple of hours, but now it's happening like every 20 to 30 minutes.

I love the game, but this is so fucking frustrating. Gonna go back to Persona 4 for now and hope CDPR manage to fix the freezing before I'm finished with that game. At least this gives me time to re-download the game on SSD.

Thanks, sounds great. I was worried nobody would ever respawn, and the familiar areas would start feeling dull and lifeless.

Am I the only witvher noob that flipped a coin at the chambermaid's questions at the end of the prologue?

Geralt: "him? Oh yeah, he's dead."

Blood and Broken bones pretty much feels like that to me so far. Really pretty perfect difficulty. Feels dangerous as fuck, but fair.
