Uhm so it's much more expensive than buying CDs?

Whole album is 4300 yen on amazon and the same thing is 4k on itunes. I imported the GE2RB OST and ended up paying £20 import tax on top of the 4.3k I spent on JP amazon. Wont be making that mistake again, physical isn't worth that premium. Also you pay more if you buy per track on itunes, I thought people knew this by now.

Anyone getting disconnected from the online system constantly?
I'm finding that if i play for more than an hour or so, i get dropped and will stay that way until I restart the game. Fairly annoying.

I don't buy songs on itunes so I don't know lol. Already imported the OST though, and I only pay $5 import tax so it doesn't bother me that much.

umm... not that I don't want to believe you... but

even factoring the shittiest exchange rate I can think of recently which is 1 GBP = 165 JPY, that's impossible to be taxed £20... unless of course you don't know it can be directly shipped internationally and you opt for forwarding service & which in case you forgot to mark down the price lol

Actual charges were as follows, using fastest shipping from tensou.
JP -> UK EMS -> Parcel force
4829 - amazon
International shipping fee+handling: 1900 yen - tensou
£6 - Customs paid by Parcel force
£15 - handling fee Parcel force as a result of taking EMS post.(rip off)

Yep itunes instant download is better than that.

as expected... don't want to go into the typical digital vs physical, but just want to let you know that you can cut that shitty parcelforce handling fee by reading my spoilered tag bit in the previous post lol
nothing can beat the feel of ripping your own ost copy :3

The pacing issues come about because they have clearly marked main story missions, but won't let you undertake them until you fulfill things like "raise discovery percentage to X in Y area" or "complete X kizuna quest."

As a result, more often than not, you'll find that you're not taken to new places with the story mission, but will often have been to that place beforehand. In some cases its even required that you visit it first, warp back to NLA, get the story quest, and then return to the location.

I think it would have felt a lot better if they just included a lot of the required kizuna missions into the main story, but that's more of a presentation issue, I suppose.

Sounds like MMO bloat garbage.

This is going to get ripped apart if you have to do a number of filler quests to progress the story.

No, you dont have to do the filler quests to progress the story, you need completion % from some continents. And you get that by setting the frontier net and finding those teasure boxes I think, besides other stuff (dunno if finding new locations counts).
Doing simple have nothing to do with it.
Edit: apparently Normal quests can count too :p

Normal quests can. Each segment has what is called a "topic" that needs to be resolved in order for that segment to get a check mark and be considered complete (count towards your completion percentage). Some topics are merely finding one of those items that requires a field skill to examine, but a lot of them require you to defeat a specific mob or complete a specific quest. I think all of the quests for the segment topics fall within the normal quest category.

Oh thats great, that should make getting the %s a lot more quick. Btw you mean those red items right? That you can find with the navi ball? And by killing mobs you mean normal ones or Overeds?

It makes the %s go a lot more quickly? I don't know about that. You just see a symbol on the map that indicates a quest needs to be done to complete the segment. You won't know which quest you need to do unless you already have it (from an NPC in NLA). It does provide more options to raise the percentage besides just doing the data points, but it's certainly not a very convenient alternative.

The items I'm talking about are the various treasures around the world that require X level of either your Mechanical, Search, or Biological skills that you can raise one at a time whenever you gain a BLADE level. Again, only some of the segments have those as their completion condition, and unless you happened to catch the specific location of the treasure from an NPC (usually in NLA), you won't know where it is on the map.

So, yeah, the most reliable way is to simply run like hell and do the data points since you know which segments contain them and they are pretty easy to spot.

But you need the normal quest to open them or the quest is just for finding them?
Like if you just search that area and find the teasure you can open it (if you have the right level) and complete that segment?

Damn now that the soundtrack is out, Wir Fliegen is so epic! When I get the game first thing I'm gonna do is getting gear to use infinite OCG :D

I think the Treasure and Overed-related segment topics can be done even if you haven't heard any information about that. If you just run into it by chance, it will still count as completed.

I'm fine with having to meet certain requirements before getting to move on with the main story, provided the requirements are not too grindy, but I did not know that you couldn't cancel Kizuna quests, so now I'm stuck in a Kizuna quest that requires luck/random drops and I just want to go on with the story but I CAN'T and it's pissing me the fuck off.

I mean, I've MET the requirements for the story mission, it's just that I can't back out of this stupid Kizuna quest and they won't let you take on Kizuna quests AND story quests at the same time, which is BS, especially since you have no idea what a Kizuna quest entails until you accept it.

Seriously stupid design this.

The more I play this game, the more disappointed I get :(

I guess most western gamer will be disappointed because it's really not like the first one or any other traditional JRPG
but that's totally OK for me : )

I do find it kind of odd that Story missions seem to be locked behind requirements now considering how they were talking about progress being less linear and this game being truly open world. The restrictions seem weird.

This happened to me several times last night, so I'm pretty sure you just have to complete the task regardless of whether an NPC has talked about it.

I don't think it has anything to do with being a Western gamer.
I love JRPGs more than any other genre, and I play all kinds of games within the genre, but the fact that you can't cancel Kizuna quests in favor of story quests is bloody stupid design, plain and simple.

I'm fine with the game not being exactly like the first one as well, but it seems like there's a lot of stuff in here that they got right the first time and totally screwed up this time (the equipment menu being a good example).

To be completely honest, when I heard that commentary I was scared they went the Skyrim route with the main story. So I'll take this MMO-design over that any day =X

I think its fine, just dont take kizuna quests before doing story quests, its the only one that it locks out, and for most probably done so it doesnt interfere with the main story for whatever reason and seem out of place and as if the kizuna quest isnt canon. Its pretty simple to just not take one to do the other.

I don't think canceling Kizuna quests makes sense, basically because of cutscenes and the story it unlocks. Granted, they can be skipped, but seeing the same story cutscene again because of canceling then accepting the same Kizuna quest again would look funny, especially when you are halfway through the quest and have unfolded story parts before quitting it. If anything, there should be more than 1 save slot as a backup save for an event before accepting a Kizuna quest. Odd that there's only one save slot though.

It's definitely not just "western gamers" being annoyed by parts of this game, such as the inability to cancel Kizuna quests.

Not really buying the "but it would be weird to see the same cutscene twice!" argument. If they cared that much, they probably should have made the game auto-save only.

Gamekult.com Import Review (in french)

+ an unforgettable game
+ heady level design
+ very successful robots
+ the incredible beauty of the surroundings
+ the feeling of exploring a new world
+ some epic musics
+ the customization possibilities
+ the drilling system to make easy money

- characters as charismatic as chicories
- some stupid quests
- bad multiplayer
- some raps
- the guy who sings at one point "I need a bigger gun." That guy.

8/10 (editor's choice)

I have a feeling people should get used to seeing this score.
I'm about 20 hours in, and this is where I'd put it too.
It's really really good, but it hamstrung by some half-baked design choices which, to me, feel like there were bigger plans for online play that just didn't pan out.

That's high for them, lol. Bayo2 is the highest they've had in ages at 9, and they gave Bloodborne an 8 as well.

They gave the original Xenoblade the very same score :)

Bad translation ? I hesitated. They meant they re well made.

It's totally understandable, don't worry about it =P (it just sounded a little funny)

Thanks for the translation though, import reviews are always fun to read.

Good score too, I wonder if other websites are going to point the same negatives...

Been grinding affection levels the last couple of days, almost done, I think by the end of a 3-4 hour grind session tonight I'll have everyone at least at 3 hearts, and the characters that need to be at 4 hearts at 4, and all the currently available kizuna quests will be doable.

A side effect of grinding affection levels is that it costs a ton of fuel to do the DLC quest since there's 12 enemies each time so every 2-3 affection mission run, I've got to do a gold/mineral DLC quest run to get the minerals to refuel everyone. Which means I've been getting a ton of money and so I should have a full lvl.50 upgraded mech party by the time I've gotten everyone's affection levels up.

Then can finally have fun and do all the last kizuna quests, and final lvl.60+ sidequests and optional unique boss outside of the handful of ultimate bosses that require the lvl.60 mechs.

Then I'll finally do the last story chapter. I have zero interest right now in the main plot, so I'm not in a hurry to start the last story quest since after the credits I might lose interest in the game, so I'd rather finish out 99% of the game content first before seeing the actual plot begin and end in a single quest. Flying around in robots is way more fun than the story anyhow.

LV 60 dolls
unlock after main story
, also those ultimate bosses
don't really require dolls to defeat them unless they're flying. OC Gears is much more powerful than dolls.

I'm kinda affraid of the story and characters of XenoX. French site GameKult reviewed Xenoblade X and loved it, but also said that the story was bullshit and the characters completly blank with almost no personnality at all.

EDIT :
Beaten by Shawn6661 !

GameKult describes XenoX more like a Monster Hunter game for the Story & Characters developpement aspects.

But, as I said earlier, they also loved the game, the feeling of freedom it deliver and the fact that Mira is a masterpiece in level design.

I loved XenoChron Wii/3D for a lot of reasons and I loved it's story too, it was an important part of the game. I just hope that XenoX isn't a "Destiny" mess in story telling (well, at least XenoX can tell it's story and it's origins, where Destiny isn't even capable of telling you anything aside from loading screens !).

There isn't much story and the characters are barely there. It's mainly a gameplay focused game. Best stuff is just flying around the world with mechs.

I'm not playing the game, but I was spoiled in pretty much the entire story, and c'mon, it's not that level at all (maybe they meant in comparison to previous Xeno games?). It's a good story still, it's just a step down from past games.

I'm 77 hours into the game with only 1 story mission left and a handful of affection quests left. There's been almost no plot in the game so far beyond bad guys want to hurt good guys. Now I'm expecting the final story mission to be nothing but 90 mins of pure story since the game's been holding off on having a plot the whole game, but if the entire story is neglected to a 90 minute mission at the end of a 70-100 hour game, I think it's fair to say there's not much of a story here. I think comparison's to non-rpg plots are valid.

Then maybe all I read happens all at once at the end of the game =P, because what I read is not like that at all.

If so, that's a shame. I mean, story was one of the main draws for me, since I could care less for the battle system. So now all I got for hype is a big world to explore =X (thank god they seem to have delivered on that front).

Comparing it to a Monster Hunter game plot-wise is doing it too much disservice, but it's definitely in no way as good as the first game.

Haven't progressed far enough to comment on the main story (but it's already more fleshed out than an MH game), but characters are bland and annoying most of the time.

I'm playing it alongside Xeno 1 on 3DS, which marks my 3rd or 4th playthrough of that game, and I'm still enjoying Xeno 1 way more than X.
Not a bad game by any means, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed somewhat.

I'm out of that Kizuna quest I was struck in. Farming for devices that null lava damage and a few +50% megafly damage assured I mopped the floor with its face.

So I'm once again enjoying myself :p

I'm trying to finish the
Baby Lobsters
quest...and I'm currently stuck at
97
. I followed Kouli's YouTube video for the second part of the quest but the final one did not appear at the same place.
I hope my game isn't bugged. I'll try again going after each one but I'm quite sure I got them all though...:/

FINALLY DONE GRINDING >_< Got everyone's affection levels to 4 hearts so now there's nothing stopping me from accessing all the story quests in the game. Can finally see all the remaining story.

Took me 3 nights of about 3 hours each just mash mash grind while trying to find ways to multi-task and do something else. So about 10 hours of pure grind. Been years since I've wasted that much time just grinding, but since there's not a whole lot of story in the game I do want to see all the kizuna quests through since a good chunk of the story that is there is in those quests.

Looking forward to next play session when I never.have.to.grind.again for the rest of my Xenoblade X experience. I think I'm over grinding for about another 10 years. So glad jrpgs have ditched grinding in the modern era.

Actually, this is the only thing I'm worried about now that I have high enough levels, good enough dolls and high enough affection levels...farming items I can't just get from the ticket counter to make devices I need to beat certain endgame/post game quests. Wish enemies dropped devices, it seems the only ones I ever got, I made myself or got from quest rewards.

So now that people have had time with the game, what are your impressions? Is the game worth it? Is it as good as we hoped or has it fallen short? I see posts that worry me. Lots of grinding, little story, etc. Thoughts?
