Do you miss GB?

Every day.

This made me feel bad when reading it and shortly after seeing a bombcast clip on youtube with someone shitting on Patrick and getting a bunch of thumbs ups. I'm sure he wanted to leave because of the location stuff, but stuff like that made me think the community was a big part of him leaving. Or at least something that pushed him towards that path.

If my guess on why he left is accurate (figured a small site like GB would benefit greatly from having an extra person at either location, and would open an opportunity for diversity which might otherwise not happen for years), then that comment is quite sad. He moved on to improve GB (as he can basically do his job for any outlet), so I don't think the community had anything to do with it otherwise he probably would have left the enthusiast press altogether.

Now he has to spend his industry good will doing shit like this.

Maybe it had something to do with it, but if it was a big contributing factor I think he would've left long before he did. Most likely it's just that moving to Chicago made it impossible to be effective at what GB is all about: interaction with other editors, being a personality-driven website. Kotaku is a site that only does written news, and for all of his video stuff he has his Youtbe channel. I don't think it's anymore complicated than that.

Yooka Lalee is mentioned in the beginning of Polygon story he links to and that is why he used that image.

Yeah, but if you have to write a headline like that (traffic...), especially for what amounts to just a content round-up, you should be more careful. Use something generic.

Makes sense, Yahtzee is like darkest timeline Alex

Yahtzee been doing ZP for almost 8 years and has been doing more and more youtube stuff in the last 1-2 years. Today is also the last day The Mana Bar is open, which he owned so I wouldn't be shocked if he'd move on.

It's a slim chance tho

Oof what are you doing Patrick? You're better than this :/

That chance is 0.
Seriously. No chance. At all.
It's more realistic that they hire Don Mattrick.

What ever happened to Mr Allard? Last I heard he was trying to flog cheap tents and boots.

I like to think he went on to live happily ever after with Velocity Girl.

Wasnt he working at a start up making electric bicycles or something?

I think he is just juggling start ups and trying to sell stuff to hipsters these days.

I can't help but feel that the max tempkin stuff and the fact he was working out of their office wasn't something that anyone at cbsi wanted to deal with.

Looking back Patrick wanted to help shape Giantbomb into what the original vision for polygon was.

And a subscription site would be the perfect place to pay for long stories and editorial pieces but Giantbomb under Jeff and Ryan was never really about that. To them they just wanted to reveal who the developers were and be no nonsense she, calling out shit games.

I do wish their was a little more structure to some of the site and its content. Yeah it sucks to be forced to review a game but you would get so much more passion from the crew about a game like that. Like how SimCity and Destiny.

I really hope the new person helps encourage the staff to write more. I'd like to think that they redesign the set and try to up the look of things a bit. Compared to Danny's show and even stuff from big YouTube's they are falling behind.

I only know this because of a segment on Idle Thumbs. Apparently he really really hates bike thieves.

I wouldn't say that the The Lobby set looks any better than the GB one, but I guess that's a subjective thing. If you're talking about more produced stuff like The Point, I don't think GB will ever do anything regular like that both because they don't really want to, and because of a lack of resources. But sure, a set redesign could be cool.

I'd like it a little more cleaned up than the mess of cables it often is on UPF.

More stuff out of camera view, less just kinda slapped on the coffee table.

Sure, I agree with that. It's pretty much on the bottom of my list of what I want the GB guys to do, but now they've got a chance to do something like that with the office being moved down a floor or two.

So what is the deal with them moving offices?

I guess they are moving down 1 floor? Studio and everything? They are not just moving office space? Is gamespot moving as well?

lol, some real high level conspiracy theories there.

Pretty sure Pat moved because he thought it was a good career choice. He has always put his career ahead of personal enjoyment. Even when he was at GB he was busy filling out his skill set with his public talks and home streaming, with an eye to maybe moving on in the future.

So he has to write some click bait and miss some conventions at first but he will be up that career ladder before long. Not much room for promotion at GB.

Both GS and GB are moving everything to a lower floor. Jeff mentioned soon after CBSi bought them that they would move at some point in the future, that their current space was temporary, so they knew it was coming.

It doesn't have to be crazy but I think it could use a refresh.

Only thing on the site design I really want is to see the upcoming que on mobile.

Yeah, a upcoming schedule box on mobile would be great. They could also need a playlist feature like the one the GB Season Pass Chrome extension provides. It's crazy that they don't have that built into the site when there's so many features with multiple parts on the site. It could obviously be easier to find specific content too, but all that stuff is "good enough" for me.

True Detective Solitair eh? That sounds interesting.

Who will unravel the most complicated mysteries and free the town from the threat that looms over it? Who will decipher the villain's clues hidden in the solitaire games? Sherlock Holmes? NO! [...]

While others watch films about Sherlock, try playing the role of a True Detective in a new Solitaire game! Mystical adventures await you!

Final Fantasy: Record Keeper has put me on a bit of a FF nostalgia binge recently, and reading up about FF III led me to reading about XII, and finally onto watching this video:

Final Fantasy XII: Esper Deathblows
And it struck me how gorgeous this game is, even now. It has definitely aged a bit now, and is showing it. But I am constantly amazed by how good this looked on the PS2.

Relevant post after the FFXII discussion on UPF. Hopefully an HD remake is going to be announced soon.

So... Bloody Baron has to be a favorite for best new character this year, right? Such a well-written, well-performed arc for him. Characters that complex and human are rarely found in games.
