Bravely Second western release incoming

From Siliconera:

Bravely Default received an enhanced version in Japan titled Bravely Default: For the Sequel, which ended up being the version we got in the West, after Square Enix made several fixes and additions to the game. According to Asano, they have no plans for a For the Sequel version for Bravely Second, or anything of the sort. He states that, at the moment, they’re only thinking about the Western version of Bravely Second.

Next, Gamer asks if the Bravely developers could share a little more on what we can expect to see next from the series.

“Hmm… yes, we’re currently thinking about whether a sequel would be more appropriate or if a completely new title would be more appropriate,” Asano replies. “This is currently a hot topic among [the development team].”

Day 1. Even if it just fixes some of my minor gripes, it will easily be a GOTY contender for me.

They planned this from the start. There was never anything to worry about unless Bravely Default absolutely tanked in the west, and it definitely did not.

Ugh, I hope they go for a completely new title and not another sequel.

I'm in for Bravely Second but I don't think I could stand another game set in the same world with mostly the same classes and a fair amount of the same characters.

I'm sure we'll hear about this at E3 though.

that's good to hear. hopefully, this will be confirmed at e3 alongside FF explorer (and Yokai Watch)

mhm.... time to play it again huh....
as for whether it's sequel or new title...
the 3rd game is already been hinted during the 2nd game story
:^)

Looks like the Western audience's gonna be the deciding factor if there's going to be a sequel or not.

Shame about B2nd's Japanese performance.

I don't think Square Enix did much to inspire confidence though I guess Nintendo could be handling it again.

I expected it, but it's nice to have some sort of confirmation, especially since I'll never be able to play FF Explorers in English.

I didn't follow it too closely, but it seemed from import reviews/impressions that they didn't repeat the terrible progression from the second half of the original game, so this is very good news.

I got the CE of BD day one with that stupid ass statue and never even got as far as taking off the cellophane, but I'll be there day one for this too...hopefully sans the ugly, yet beautiful statue T_T

My most played 3DS games and my most favorite one so far (speaking of Bravely Default).

Like the first one - I will get pre-order this one as well if it has a collector's edition.

The first picture in the article is a shout-out to the nefarious DIO of JoJo fame. I approve.

I'd definitely get an English version of the game, since I don't feel like I can handle playing in Japanese yet. However, I might still try the JP version out... it all depends on when I manage to go back to Bravely Default and finish the game, and if I can manage to find enough free time to pick yet another JRPG up before they release the localized version.

Given the poor reception Bravely Second got in Japan, I hope their next game is an outright Final Fantasy branded title. It seems like that would help to garner a wider audience.

Will BS be published by Nintendo this time?

It didn't help Final Fantasy: Four heroes of light, which is basically Bravely Default Zero in all but name.

Almost paradoxically, being a new I.P. almost certainly helped the game.
Neat. I loved the first game and more of it is always good.

Edit: Wait what. BS got poor reception in Japan? Why?

Hard to say, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised of it being a combination of A) Worse music and B) people were let down by chapters 5 and onwards of BD which put them off the sequel. It still sold over 100k in its first week in Japan though, so it wasn't so terrible.

This isn't a surprise at all. I just wish they'd formally announce it and give us a date.

What were expectations and how did it fare? I await for this to be released.

It was over 350,000 in the US as of last December, which is extremely great for any JRPG that isn't Pokemon, Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts.

No clue how it did in Europe, but I think it performed well over there, too.

Bravely Second > Bravely Default... trust me :3
although, there's not that much challenge as compared to rehauled chapter 7&8 battles in bravely default for the sequel version.
and broken job combo in bravely second is much more broken than the original game, beyond repairable :^)

Probably can calculate on your own, considering they mentioned 1m+ total sold for all version

Hmm, I hoped that the sequel would do better. I can see why that particular story aspect of BD could have disappointed quite a few people but I hoped that many of them would just move on, as the sequel wouldn't repeat BD's mistakes. Hopefully the western release will do good. I'd really like to see a Bravely Third sometime.

Translation: We're not sure if Square-Enix is willing to greenlight a sequel because Bravely Second had mediocre sales in Japan.

Worst music is disappointing, but I agree based on what little I've heard from this. Lots of RPGs are ending up with worse music these days unfortunately. Ys games' music hasn't been as strong, Xenoblade X is a far cry from Xenoblade's excellent soundtrack, and Bravely Second's is a step back from Bravely Default.

As long as they didn't do anything stupid with the gameplay though I'm sure I'll enjoy it, because of the job system.

Contradictory! Those boss battles were the best part of the game :(

gameplay is still the same. the only difference is the post battle bonus is removed for the chain battle bonus system.

I imagine this will be one of the games show at E3. I wonder how many of the Final Fantasy named titles will have a presence, as there's a good chunk of them not even talked about for international audiences, and so many risk Japan-only releases.

Nice to see this isn't one of them.

Bravely Default story and gameplay were the best thing from Square since TWEWY. Day 1 for me, put this shit up on Amazon so I can preorder it...

So is this a sequel or an upgraded version of the first game in the west?

Sequel. The main Western release was the upgraded version.

to be honest..... there are some songs in the game is quite good, but of course, when you're comparing revo's bravely default music with ryo's bravely second music in general... heh

How much deeper does Second go with the microtransactions? Default's implementation was almost nothing but it got me worried.

basically just the same as the previous game. pay real monies if you don't want to wait for SP points to recover naturally (lol)
