I'm loving the renewed focus on the live experience, but I still hope they have the music video stage with a similar breadth of effects as in Rock Band 3.

I'd also like to see the real-time effect RB2 music videos come back too. The RB3 music video venues were neat but they were all FMV backgrounds only.

And in the same thought, cuz we always want something more, give us a modifier that disables any chance of music videos in quickplay. Or change it so it doesn't do the beep countdown for each song in a setlist :V

Yeah, back in Rock Band 2, I only ever played songs in the Tour mode (because I wanted my full band), so I almost never got to see those sweet RB2 music videos. RB3's just weren't the same.

As someone who has a massive rock band collection on xbox 360, but now has a PS4, this makes me very sad that I cant transfer my collection :(

I like this idea, I'd like an option to disable backgrounds or reduce their brightness or something like that.
I have terrible eyesight and sometimes the show or (especially) video in the background is too damn bright and prevents me from actually seeing the notes :(

Got this through an email from Harmonix. I'm not in the L.A. area, but for those that are...

Man, I wish I could brag about not doing my job on my job's website

Not only does the writer hate their job, they fucked up information in it too.

No fun allowed. Why would you assign Rock Band coverage to that person?

Why even send someone like that? Skipping the event entirely might have even been a better choice.

I know all about not being into certain genres. But half of that article was about him complaining how he's not into it. Jeez.

Jesus Christ, I normally never read Polygon and that just confirmed everything and more. Literally garbage.

Wow indeed. Polygon at it again.

what drivel

Would you rather Polygon send somebody who is mega hyped for the game and will tell you it's the Holy City no matter what it's actually like? It's actually refreshing that there are articles out there that aren't all sploogefests.

At least he recognized the appeal, even if he didn't share it.

I'd rather Polygon send someone that's neutral or a fan of the series.

Refreshing that someone wasted Harmonix's time, my time, Polygon's slot at the event to put out coverage with no information aside from how much he dislikes thing? I mean, okay.

Maybe they would have actually talked to the developer and printed a lie as if it were a fact. Harmonix has not confirmed if instruments are backwards compatible in the final game to anyone.

Thats not healthy journalistic skepticism, it's a journal entry about boredom.

Anyone else think the notes look like a step backwards? I loved the clear look of the notes in RB3, these look like they are from the PSP game. Hopefully they change.

Send someone knowledgeable enough to actually take the time to truly discuss the changes and affects on gameplay, I do not need half the article describing the event he did not care for.

Edit: The other thread got locked so lets let the polygon discussion die so this thread does not bite it too

No, this was just a bad article. I am aware of the noticeable bias towards Harmonix when it comes to music vidya but seriously as Gordon Ramsay would say...

You know, something I didn't think about. What are the chances that, assuming backwards compatibility with instruments is real, they'll support crossplatform instruments?

Crossplatform DLC is no going to be permitted. So the turncloaks are out of luck.
I use that term in jest

as in microsoft to sony? 0% at least from harmonex.

I suppose there is a chance a third party might be able to come up with some sort of solution but even then it wouldn't be more than 0.5%.

Approximately never.

edit: Harmonix made the Pro Real Strat console-neutral and had you buy the separate MIDI Pro Adapter to use it, but even then Microsoft blocked them from letting you use the guitar's dpad and buttons to control the game, you had to use the MIDI Pro on the 360 to select songs and such.

Fair, but there are dozens of other impressions like that - certainly from sources less maligned than Polygon.

Refreshing that someone wasted Harmonix's time, my time, Polygon's slot at the event to put out coverage with no information aside from how much he dislikes thing? I mean, okay.

If you don't like Polygon, don't read Polygon. I don't like The Escapist, so I don't care what they cover.

Maybe they would have actually talked to the developer and printed a lie as if it were a fact. Harmonix has not confirmed if instruments are backwards compatible in the final game to anyone.

Well, it's a generally accepted rumor. Calling it a lie is a stretch.

Boredom's not a burden anyone should bear. But sometimes we have to do jobs we dislike.

What changes are you expecting? I'm pretty sure we're all going to be hitting colored notes and adjusting our pitches to follow a line. I hope that you and others aren't expecting a reinvention of the wheel with RB. GH is already trying that and got crucified.

No, this was just a bad article. I am aware of the noticeable bias towards Harmonix when it comes to music vidya but seriously as Gordon Ramsay would say...

Lol I miss you from ScoreHero <3 I'll be playing RB when it comes out too, but I am not going to berate people who don't think it's the best thing since sliced bread.

It's not a rumor. Harmonix has said they are working on it. But they also stress that they cannot confirm 100% it will be a thing for the final game, and they will announce it from the mountaintops when they can confirm it, so writing

"you can use your old Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 wireless contraptions on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4"

is a lie

Last-gen compatibility with wireless hardware on new consoles is not a rumor; it's happening. PS3 to PS4 with the existing hardware/dongle; Xbox 360 to Xbox One with a low-cost dongle you can purchase. First thing's first is testing this with the instruments we made, but we intend to support as many of those legacy wireless instruments as possible.

I read it because I thought it was an article about a game I am excited about that might have some new information.

I don't normally read it because of their reputation and it is unsurprising to me to see why they have it time and time again.

Yes, we all do things we don't like but professionals and the successful people still do their job. He provided no information about what he was covering and instead thought an article devoted to his very personal thoughts on something and he thought it was appropriate. I don't need an article to hype up something just because. He could have opened with a blurb about his stance and then did his job the rest of the article.

He didn't and reaffirmed to me why I don't frequent the site. No love lost either way but it still another black mark.

This is great! <3 you all at HMX. Looking forward to some dongle goodness, I hope the Lips mics end up compatable but I'm not holding my breath.

Nice. I'm wondering if I can use the dongle for the pc.

That was rather painful to read. The whole thing seems kind of lazy even if you don't like the genre/game. "I don't like this game. Other people like this game. Here's some features, I guess. The end."

To each their own, though.

Yes, since then they might have actually played the game. This article is about useless, half of it is just him saying he doesn't like the genre. Then he ensures the reader knows that he not only didn't play a game in the genre in a decade, but also lets you know that he didn't play the game and didn't want to be at the event. How does this benefit anybody?

It would be nice if people would write previews with more skepticism then just saying 'Yay, new game, will be awesome' but not even trying the game? At least try it and say if it is the same to you or maybe changed your mind on the genre.

Nice thing about sending a fan of the previous games would be to maybe talk about the feel of the new instruments compared to the old instruments, the whether vocal recognition is better, if the new expressive elements actually add to the game, etc. This guy just informed us why he doesn't like something and regurgitate what he has heard on the game.

To be fair, we were hedging when we announced, as we were still working through it. We feel good about it now. :)

Can you answer if the 360->One dongle is just a repackage of the existing 360 Wireless PC adapter, or is it specifically something new for RB4?

ie could people just use their existing 360 Wireless PC adapter or will we have to buy this specific dongle

This is unfortunate. I wish Harmonix would have introduced a Harmonix account that linked all my songs so I could play them on any platform. If I bought the songs I should be able to play them wherever I want.

I'm glad I still have my old PS3 instruments packed up in my closet.

Its a pipe dream that wont happen, cross-play between PS4 and Xbox One is more likely
