Bethesda: "Please Stand By" (aka obvious Fallout teaser) [maybe not crossgen]

Which platform will you play Fallout 4 on?

I'm so happy it's being announced finally.

That said, cross gen. Damnit

Edit: So it might not be crossgen. That's much better!

Be careful. I got called delusional for saying that yesterday.

I'M NOT A MAD MAN I'M JUST LIVING IN A MAD WORLD.

It ain't that crazy. The game has been in development for years, and IIRC, Todd Howard or someone similar said their next game announcement would be the shortest announce -> release window they'd ever done.

I hope it has as good writing and story telling as New Ve.........ahhh who am I kidding I will take anything now =)

Crashing this plane... with no survivors!
One of my biggest complaints about Bethesda games has been environment repetition, the subway in Fallout 3 and the dungeons in Skyrim being the biggest offenders. With more RAM in current gen consoles, not only can developers make BIGGER worlds (probably the most notable advantage of not being cross gen) but they can create more diverse worlds since they have room for more textures and assets.

Thanks, that's actually a good point. I'm not convinced that developers would actually hold back on the current-gen versions though. From what I can think of, the last gen porters have taken stuff only possible on the newest systems (Shadow of Mordor/Titanfall arguably) and simplified it for the old consoles, not vice versa.

Edit: Obliterrator on the last page had the type of example I was looking for, with Dragon Age.

I agree with you. Just going to miss the great aspects of NV in this. The characters, the writing, wild wasteland...man I'm bumming myself out but I'll still play the fuck out of it.

Don't really get this, you guys know you're going to get an East Coast and West Coast Fallout. Is the anger from the West Coast one not coming out first?

I doubt it'll be cross-gen. It was probably considered at the start of development but I'd like to think they dropped the idea somewhere along the line.

Or there isn't one and it's just a placeholder. Everybody keeps forgetting that that list also had "Playstation" and "Xbox" on it as platforms. So unless we're jumping back 3 gens...

Maybe it's just part of a new redesign for the Fallout website, like they did for Elder Scrolls around Skyrim's reveal.

I mean, the website has needed a redesign for a long while now.

I'm on this hype train harder than I've been since Halo 2 or maybe Bioshock Infinite.

Loved Fallout 3 but never had the chance to pick up New Vegas.

Even then, they were still able to implement that into the current-gen versions, while still releasing the game for last-gen as well. If Bethesda had some revolutionary new gameplay mechanics, what would stop them from doing the same?
They'll have to potentially waste resources like SoM did to make that crappy held back last-gen port which further holds back the current-gen port. That's the problem.

Wow, the one company where I was so happy that they'd be free of last-gen constraints so that they could totally revamp their shitty engine and tech work and remove the jank. Fallout 3, NV and Skyrim were the top games last gen where my love of the game design clashed with my hatred of the technical execution of said design and limitations that the consoles placed on said design. Might just happen all over again now if they're balancing everything for last-gen consoles too.

Argh, fuck off. This is so disappointing.

I actually double checked that recently. A far as I'm aware, he said that before Skyrims announcement and hasn't again since.

If Fallout 4 releases in February/March it'd still be the lowest annouce to release they've ever had FYI.

That's because it's a cross gen game. I bought a PS2 thinking developers would take full advantage of the new hardware but nope, companies like Bethesda are just going to keep releasing games on the original Playstation as well. Somebody should edit the poll.

Even if it is cross gen just let this be a 2015 release.

The main difference is that porting from PC to console is making a worse/weaker version from a higher quality starting point.

Developing with cross Gen in mind from the start means you get two nerfed products, with one running at a slightly higher resolution on PC.

This. Cross-gen had its time, let's fucking move on and get the full potential out of these boxes.

I am not worried about it either way. If it is current-gen only, then great. If not, then oh well. I am just happy we are getting a new Fallout and I will likely enjoy it just as much as Fallout 3 and New Vegas, if not more.

We have no confirmation of it either being cross gen or current gen. Can we hold off and getting disappointed and angry when we don't even know the full details?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
+1 for cross gen, just not ready to buy a new console yet.

Though, i hope if they're doing cross gen, they dont use the older engine, hopefully its going to be based on id tech, which runs well on last gen consoles too.

How likely is this a 2015 release? I would shit my pants.
Not very I'd guess. They'd wanna have a big announcement-to-release window to grab all the hype and attention they can (and since this game is massive and a super huge deal, especially when you consider the fact that they've been working on this for like 5 years, marketing becomes a huge deal. Skyrim had a year wait. I'd say Q1-Q2 2016 for this beast.
