Though, i hope if they're doing cross gen, they dont use the older engine, hopefully its going to be based on id tech, which runs well on last gen consoles too.

You should get ready soon. There is no point anymore in supporting this old consoles.

If publishers want a bigger userbase on the new gen, than release your game on new gen only.
A lot of people this will fall will upgrade their consoles just because of Star Wars Battlefront.
And thats just one game. There are a lot of other games that are new gen only and that wll force people finally to make the switch.

There is no excuse really. At one point you have to switch anyway. Why wait?

I think I'm more saddened by the fact that obsidian isn't on this. Cross gen is whatever because I'll play it on PC but Bethesda can't write a fallout game for shit. Hope they've improved after seeing what Obsidian did.

The main storyline in FO3 wasn't anything special, sure, but the many of the side stories were really well realized. I'm thinking about The Republic of Dave, the Andale cannibals, the comic book shop, etc. These are bleak, humorous encounters that beat anything in NV, imo.

NV was great because of the lack of any secure moral perspective. People in NV are only various shades of evil, which I like, but this sapped much of the potential humor out of it.

Generally speaking, I think the writing in FO3 is better.

I'm curious as to how much of an impact you believe it would have. I think it's reasonable to assume major cutbacks must be made to be compatible with 10 year old hardware.

It depends on the game but yeah, there would definitely have to be cut backs. As far as this game is concerned? It's way too early to tell because they shown off the game yet. But, for example a game like Infamous/Order? It would be purely cosmetic. A game like Witcher would be more significant like draw distance/AI on screen at one time/less foliage/props.

There's this fear that it's always last gen that holds back current gen, a developer has to always cut ideas from their vision because they know it has to work on the last gen... when there also developers on the other side that will push current gen and throw that game to a port studio and let them do a port and pay it no mind.

honestly any open world game is probably a bad idea on the xbox or ps4 until proven otherwise at this point. if you can, get it on PC. I look at Fallout as a PC franchise anyway, so I voted pentium 4.
