It's always weird how in Bethesda games there seem to only be one body type. There's no fat people, skinny people, everyone has the exact same physique.

I can understand some of the stuff being bad but those animations are completely unacceptable.

Gamebryo was already dated years ago and the animations were a big reason. Good lord.

Hey, at least we've got diagonal running animations right? Only took until 2011 for that to happen.

In that same scene tha post-man (I think that's what he is) has a nice animation actually. It's nice and fluid.
The run of the kid and the woman at 1:26 it's the same as Fallout 3 though.

Point is, the one we'll see the most it's the run animation, so that kind of sucks.

Oh yeah, I see it. And the ghouls (or whatever they are) in the supermarket scene looks well animated too. Hmm.

The fallout from this megaton teaser trailer is incredible. This place has been nuked

the Wasteland makes men out of boys and fatties. And women apparently

The biggest difference between Bethesdas modern offerings on open-world games vs something like TW3 or Saints Row or Far Cry is that Bethesdas feature thousands of objects in that world and those objects are kept track of. Drop some ammo, a can of spaghetti, and three plates on the side of a mountain and the game keeps track of that. Its why their games get buggier the larger the save file gets.. all that information adds up. i havent played TW3 but it doesnt looks like that kind of open world rpg from what ive seen so maybe im completely wrong.

Morrowind looked like shit.

Oblivion looked like shit.

Fallout 3 looked like shit.

Skyrim looked like shit.

Fallout 4 looks like shit.

I don't know why some of you are acting so shocked given Bethesda's track record of shittastic visuals. Buy it during a Steam sale and mod it to hell and back if you're that indignant about it. It's just par for the course with Bethesda.

jump from Oblivion to Skyrim was way above this F3/NV -> F4 one and it was on the same console

I don't disagree with you but there's a reason for this

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Fallout 4 will look significantly less impressive than The Witcher 3 no matter the relative size of their game worlds.
I don't think it will be significantly but it probably won't look as good as the witcher 3.

I don't think Bethesda's challenge will be making a big map, so much as filling it with interesting, relevant content.
I am not concerned they have done a great job with that.

Is this where we bitch about Fallout 4's graphics?

Because honestly the graphics are the least of my worries. I'm more worried about the game running properly on all systems.

I love the Fallout games and I'm already in on day one for Fallout 4. But I'm not looking forward to the inevitable jank and bullshit glitches that are gonna come with the game.

I think that's it for me I'm gonna go run to the lore speculation thread.

It's kind of hilarious that Homefront looks better than Fallout 4. Bethesda really should invest a bit in technology. Maybe they thought that's what they were doing when they bought id? Guess it didn't work out too hot for them if they did.

Imagine a Fallout 4 built with the Rage engine:

I assumed that was why they bought Id tbh...

I won't lie, in parts that looked super rough, particularly the weird arms on the dude at the end. It really doesn't look 'next-gen' or particularly current. But even at the time I found FO3 felt really crusty.

That said, Fallout's atmosphere is amazing so I'm hoping for good things. Hope they fix some of that FO/Skyrim jerkiness.

Jesus everyone here must be like too young to remember New Vegas.

I mean Fallout New Vegas released like 5 years ago, and the graphics were pretty bad compared to other games

I know it's not an excuse, but it is revered for its gameplay, content, and atmosphere. Sure, it might be disheartening that it isn't amazing looking, but people who are already dismissing the game are crazy.

One of the few games I have faith in to preorder, looking forward to playing it on PC!

I'm glad the graphics won't detract from my experience. It sucks that so many people will not enjoy the game as much because the graphics don't live up to their expectations.

It is problematic because it affects the atmosphere and immersion. And that affects the fun I have when I play it. Also playing this on a PC won't change anything. It will still have those low quality textures, bad animations, boring effects and flat lighting.
I mean that you'll be able to get mods which will fix a lot of those problems. Are the textures really that bad? Just looks like lighting and anti-aliasing issues to me. The game looks good enough for me.
been reading?
Where ya been?
I guess I'm not usually in AAA game threads, so now it makes sense.

I'm curious what Bethesda has been working on these past 4+ years. Certainly not improving their tech at all. Maybe they finally spent time on making the world and NPC's organic and interesting. One can hope.

They were all relatively impressive when they came out.

This is the first time Bethesda hasn't been impressive visually debuting a game that I can remember.

Comparing Skyrim to Witcher 3 isn't all that easy though, Witcher 3 is large but nowhere near as dense.

There seems to be some visuals inconsistency between the flashback scenes and the post apocalyptic scenes. With the latter looking better.

As I said before, if this can't top Witcher 3's no loading then I'll get this down the track after release. I have no intention of going back to RPG's where loading is so prominent, definitely ruins immersion and play through consistency.

That was my thought as well... I'm sure they borrowed some of that tech in one way or another. They might not admit it however because of the backlash Rage got. Beautiful game... story fail.

Their worlds have always been interesting and well designed. It's why people play their games and one of their most redeeming qualities.

I think so too, the textures, AA, and whatnot are easily remedied with mods but those janky animations from skyrim and FO3 really needed a rework.

But why do we need mods to fix this? Bethesda is one of the biggest and most successful developers in the world. They have the means to make great looking games. Why don't they?

No. And ask the mods to delete your post because Idtech5 is the absolute worst thing to happen to the video game industry. If you played Rage, The Evil Within and Wolfenstein, you will understand why you should delete your post.

And then come review time, critics all gloss over Bethesda games gameplay and jankiness and say it's all about dat presentation and dat game world.

"Immersion" and "atmosphere", ignoring the dogshit animations and dialogue that serve to pull you out of the game more than anything.

I did. I think that's why I'm so let down. But really, its the old ass animations that are a bigger ping on my radar now. And they seem to be reusing one of the ones I HATED. "Fear run" animation always rubbed me the wrong way. Just looks stupid.

ID Tech 5 / Mega textures don't handle realtime daylight / time-of-day light changes sadly.
And texture quality is ultimately low despite its benefits.

None of those games looked like shit for their time.

Oblivion was one of the first HOLY SHIT NEXT-GEN games.
Characters aside, I thought Fallout 3 look pretty nice overall in 2008 achieving a nicely rendered desolate wasteland.
And I remember everyone being universally impressed with Skyrim's gameplay reveal trailer.

Now they look horribly dated, but I don't believe they did when they were released.

this guy works in the game industry?

He is right about the fact that gameplay is more important than graphics. However, it is impossible to say pretty much anything about the gameplay based on this trailer, so of course people are focusing more on the graphics. You would think he understands that.

The Evil Within has real-time lightning for the torch. But implementing a real time time of day would have been to much stress on Bethesda's programmers I guess. :lol
