I think if Nomura were given more time (quite some time) he could do it and only him.
So who are exceptional directors and visionaries in the gaming industry ? and what are exceptional game designs by your standards? I'm interested

"He could do it and only him".
No way dude. He's the shy art kid who can draw well who was handed the reigns to game production, for skills that had nothing to do with game making. He made two "okay" games with that power. He didn't invent FF... He inherited it. Quite certainly many others could do it. I dare say you are guilty of the false and undeserved deification that I am decrying. I can only blame the long development time for raising a generation on an unproven legend.

But since you asked:
Hideo Kojima
Hideki Kamiya
Tomonobu Itagaki
Akira Yamaoka
Keiji Inafune

And the other FF creators:
Hironobu Sakaguchi
Yasunori Matsuno

In my opinion they are all far and away superior to Nomura as a game director. And that's all based on the fact that I think the KH games are unexceptional, and then he got nothing done for a decade. Most of their greatest praise has come from the generation that grew up with them as kids... And most of the jRPG "mystique" that fuels that passion (which I understand) was just cribbed from every jRPG in the 90s.

People calling Nomura's work on Versus XIII "empty" is breaking my heart. You can call it concepts, unfinished product, amazing prospect, vaporware or whatever.

But empty? Holy shit. Lightning Returns XIII to Gamestop is empty. Geeeezz...

People saying that didn't follow the game as long as those who did from the start and know there was actually quite a bit out there from trailers, interviews, screenshots, etc etc.

This is a hugeeee diference... massive even. The screenshots are speaking volumes in every single scene.

Stella is confidence and action in every other scene. Luna is empty and dead inside, no matter how you look at it.

Look at the screenshot.

Anxious in every scene. It's fine. I like variety. But how can you not see the big departure from Stella?

Dude... for all you know, Luna goes Super Saiyan and kills Noctis and Co.

You're studying cinematic bullshots trying to ascertain the moods or mindsets of people who aren't even real. You're truly overthinking this.

I think Luna's screens give me a "something big is about to go down" vibe and not really a vibe of weakness or dependence.

Stella seems more typically bubbly or girly in that scene and not all about being dominant or strong per se.

I think its too early to discount Luna's character based on the dearth of material we have regarding both characters.

It's probably better for some that Versus XIII doesn't come out. That way the romantic notion of it they've fabricated won't ever have to be shattered. I still think it's Square's fault for sharing information about it far, far too early.

It doesn't mean FFXV is definitely going to be a worse game for dumping Stella and putting in Luna, but I don't blame people for being less interested because of it. It's the game's job to win them over, after all.

So far,Stella is the more interesting character ,but I don't think enough material was presented about Luna to warrant some people's confidence that she'll be weak.

I already knew Hideo was going to be your first comparison and thats funny because when it comes to Tetsuya and Hideo they are often compared.

I never liked Hideki kamiya's games as much as Tetsuya when it came to kingdom hearts because he never pulled off an action rpg like kh. DMC/Bayonetta is like worthy of two or three playthroughs but after that I dropped them for good same with ninja gaiden. Also Bayonetta/DMC/Ninja Gaiden those type of straight up action games felt so empty the scenes were just generic game scene 1 2 3. Tetsuya is a movie director as well lmao, his execution in story telling trumps all of those except for probably Hideo.

As if DMC isn't the most Linear Button mashy Generic story telling type of game there is. Don't compare that trash to KH Thanks.

They mentioned something along the lines of the whole Duscae region being 1/10th of the game. Apparently what we got in the demo is only a part of the Duscae region.

Hmmm... While I don't really know how to count how large the world is, I hope it will be able to stand side to side with other open world rpg.^-^

Xenoblade Cross is absolutely huge, GTAV is also huge, not really sure about Witcher 3. But if is able to be maybe like 5 times bigger than Dragon Dogma, I will be more than happy.^_^

Is the Demo area bigger than whole D Dogma here?

Ha ha, really? Dead inside? Luna seems resolute, earnest. Stella in the party scene seems bland, ill-defined (and I'll-shod, yuck). She seemed cool in her Noctis face off scene, but who knows how she would've ended up.

At least 26 minutes of trailers is a good start. I watch it every now and then.

I think we could still find new details in this.

I want to stress one thing. I fully expect Luna to kick some legitimate ass at some point in the game. She is coming for us. For all of us. Hold on to your butts.
But I need to see it. My imagination can only give me so much without having a reference of what is to come.
Luna appears diplomatic and worried in this scene, maybe everything will go south in the 2nd hour of the game who knows.

Dead inside is not the right word for it, I agree.

I agree that it's too early to judge Luna since we haven't seen much of her. But it's SE's fault that they haven't shown much of her (and only thing they showed was not really significant)

From what they've said, it will be -huge-. Tough to know so far if it'll be as big as GTAV and Xeno X.

I'm more worried about what they'll do with those big areas.

I think it's less that they are confident that she's weak and more that they aren't confident that she will be strong. Which, again, that's entirely fair. We saw Stella doing stuff more proactively, while we've yet to see Luna do the same.

If the game/SE wants us to think that Luna is going to be more than the girl that sits around and waits for Noctis to save the day, then they should show us. There's no confidence owed to them without them doing anything to earn it.

I just hope they drop the over-polite way Stella talked to Noctis.

I really like that about Stella. That over-polite and quite her from party scene, and the resolute looking Stella who draws the sword against Noctis. That contrast is what I really liked about her.

I'm willing to bet that XV was mostly Versus until shortly after E32013. Maybe at this time character switching was out. After that, during the year long silence, I'm sure all those "discussions" about what to do with the story/versus elements occurred. Maybe this is what resulted in Nomura being kicked out, Tabata taking over and getting rid of Stella and whatever else from Versus they deem not good enough for their "vision".

You know what,fuck this noise.

badass and GOAT female design ?

Agni..she has 8k textures too.
PS4_Agni_screenshot8.jpg
Agni's Philosophy isn't even a game, yet I thought that the setting and concepts shown there were immediately more compelling than anything I've seen so far from FFXV.

How can you say that when you don't even know how combat would work?

At least in 2006, we could tell how Noctis was gonna play.

Just comes off as distant/unfamiliar at best, submissive at worst to me.

I think if the game is good then some of this could potentially be forgiven. But that's a pretty big if honestly and I've sort of had my doubts growing over the game for a while. The thing that irritates me most about this particular situation is that they've sort of tiptoed around what was really changed and straight up lied at other times. Being honest about it all would probably have benefited them in the long run.

While I know it's hard to guess, what are the chances this does well sales wise? And if it does do well, but isn't as well received critically by fans or the press, will SE care all that much? Or will they just care that it sold well?

This is insane to me. The level of extroplating going on in here. Not to single you out, but this one had a lot of pictures.

I mean, they're just pictures of girls. Getting all these character traits is crazy. On both sides really. We really don't know how either character will or would've been so why does it matter so much?

In fairness, those are stills from videos of those characters.
