Mega Man Legacy Collection announced (MM1-6, PS4/XB1/PC/3DS, Digital Eclipse)

People keep saying the NES VC titles as reason for the Wii U being excluded to this collection, but are they not aware that the same titles are available on the 3DS VC? I think anyway you cut it, it's a pretty odd omission.

I think the games being on the VC is the reason why we're seeing this collection.

It's not on the Wii U because lol it's the Wii U.

What do they mean by "hd flair"? Are they re-drawing the sprites? Is there some sort of new filter that will still make the sprites look good scaled up?

Oh boy, another port collection of MM1-6 with some shitty smoothing filters!

At least it isn't an iphone game. If it's reasonably priced (aka $15) I'll buy it. Just to have it on PS4.

I imagine it's not releasing on Wii-U because that would make the virtual console versions of these games completely obsolete.

lol Wii U doesn't make a lot of sense here, since this is a digital only title where Mega Man has been there digitally and done well, as far as I know.
The amount of effort it would take to put the game on Wii U can be harnessed towards putting it on literally anything that isn't a Wii U, because lol it's the Wii U. Then to add on top of it the redundancy of having both the collection and the VC releases.

Beauty. 15$ is great as well.

I could see an X set, a Zero set as well.

Capcom HD Rerelease is the best Capcom. It guarantees the games are good.

Mega Man in Smash.

No Wii U version.

This is fucking hilarious.

This is what I was thinking as well. I guess I will grab the 3DS version. Kind of weird of Capcom not to use Mega Man in smash as a selling tactic for a Wii U version. Mega Man even has an Amiibo which would help out as well.

I figure it's probably got something to do with the fact that all 6 games are on the eshop for $5 a piece. They don't want to give people a cheaper alternative, assuming this costs $20 or something.

In the States Mega Man 1 - 6 are on the eShop for 3DS as well. As long as this isn't an Atomic Planet 2.0 release I will be interested. Unless they give it the Mega Man Mania treatment.

Like I said, the same games are available on the 3DS VC, so the "redundancy" is there as well. And unless there is a significant amount of work being done, like extraordinarily so, I highly doubt there would be that much effort in porting it to the Wii U (or the PS3 or 360, honestly, for that matter), and it wouldn't be all that strange for that effort to be made anyway, since so much Mega Man content is available digitally and has sold well on the Wii U's virtual space.

I would just imagine that they don't consider the platform worth the effort.

Possible, but again, strange, for the reasons I highlighted in that very post. I know the kneejerk reaction is, as Odrion's was, to be lol Wii U, but MM already has a decent amount of presence and success in Wii U's digital space. It's an odd omission.

I'd imagine the omission of Wii U and Vita may come down to Digital Eclipse.

They might have the manpower to port their engine to those platforms yet.

Legacy Collection makes me think "legacy console". Not as in "please come to Vita", but as in "Mega Man is dead to us, please buy some ports and shut up".

Anyhow, hope the additional modes are worthwhile. I've already got Anniversary Collection and some VC titles.

The only way it really makes sense to me if it's technical-related, and they're doing something with the collection that just wouldn't be possible on the tech (which would also explain why there's no PS3, 360 or Vita version). But I found that pretty hard to believe to be honest. And then you have the obviously very low tech 3DS getting its own version of this, so clearly they are up to doing a lower res/tech version of the collection.

Likely, and they are the lowest selling platforms. Plus, the XB1, PS4, and PC all use X86 architecture, where the Wii U uses its own thing.

Well, yeah, that's not too bad of a thought if these are the prioritized systems of a limited team number. May mean other systems will see the collection later, too.

Could be worse.

I'll wait and see on this one, though the comments from the "new" Digital Eclipse are certainly promising.

The main point I'm getting out of this thread is that I should really get those Sonic phone ports.

10 years ago we got Mega Man Anniversary Collection with contained Mega Man 1 to 8.

Now in 2015 we get Mega Man Legacy Collection which only features Mega Man 1 to 6.

We should be getting Mega Man Classic Collection featuring Mega Man 1 to 10. Urgh Capcom.

I agree. Mega Man 7, 8, 9, 10, & Mega Man & Bass should also be in.

I think it's incredibly lazy of Capcom to release a bunch of emulated versions of the NES games. I wish they'd take a page from SEGA and give it the full taxman treatment.

Don't claim your re-release is "HD" because it's got sharp pixel art. At widen up the screen space.

It's not emulation. The games are running on a new engine.

So what would they do about all the rooms specifically hand crafted for the 4:3 aspect ratio? Like the boss rooms?

Sonic worked a 16:9 mode because its giant map than several conected rooms that Mega Man has had, how you gonna adapt the new respawn enemies points with a wider resolution? You gonna need to edit the stage layout and its not like the old games anymore.

Also there are problem with the original bosses, adapt to widescreen? New barriers? There is a problem with mega man "lemons" taking more time leaving the screen, more time waiting to attack again.

Its not that easy...

To be fair, Mega Man games are far more structured around the screen space, especially things scrolling in and out of the screen. There's ways to handle that, but that's probably expecting too much of them. Especially at a budget price, I'm not counting on Digital Eclipse to turn in something without all sorts of glitches and mistakes compared to the NES editions, even with their "Criterion Collection" fluff speech.

Then that seems extra lazy.

Create a respawn script that checks where the player is compared to where he would be on the original and add a 1 frame animation of the enemy spawning.

There is a problem with mega man "lemons" taking more time leaving the screen, more time waiting to attack again.
Create a timer that simulates the amount of time it would take the "lemons" to travel out of the screen and use that instead checking to see if the bullet has left the screen. And phase the shots out when they've traveled a certain distance.

Its not that easy...
It's also not that hard. Taking a little time and effort to show these games the love they deserve is a great way for capcom to earn the $15 they're asking for.

And if Other Ocean is creating a new engine to do these games anyways, why not spend less time recreating the limitations and spend a little time making the games even better? If you want to play the originals (especially on 3DS), we have a Virtual Console for that.

Can people really not handle black bars on the sides of their screens? Let's keep this faithful. To me, this is like smoothing out the pixels. No thanks.

In what way will a Wii U version benefits anything? It has 1-7 and 9-10 counting the BC and it has the X and Zero series and even has the Battle Network games.
