We are dragging this fucking white whale out of the damn ocean this year.

Thanks sjay1994 for this gif:

Nah 3rd party stuff will probably be early on. No way they end the show with a 3rd party game. Unless they show a huge Star Wars Battlefront demo with the end announcing a $299 holiday bundle lol.

TLG should end the show with Ueda presenting and Otani doing live music

So back on topic, if the game actually is announced at E3, when would it be released?

I thought it was odd that Andrew House actually admitted the first party line-up was a little light this year. What exec would actually say that? He was just planting the seeds for the ultimate surprise. TLG, November 2015. It's going to be exactly how each and every one of you imagined it to be and not at all disappointing or different! The impact of Team Ico's genius will stand up despite the dozens of games that have taken up the mantle of "emotional art experience" since 2005.

Even if it is announced, surely it wouldn't be 2015?

Although I think he was talking about E3 in that statement? I forgot the context of that statement.

Yeah, "light" can still mean "we don't have AS many 1st party titles to show... buy just you wait to see the couple we DO have!!"

Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome to the stage, Fumito Ueda of Fumitogames Limited.

Ueda awkwardly walks out on stage.

Crowd is going wild. He cannot get a word out.

Some idiot from IGN shouts out, "Show us your GAMEEEE," and immediately bursts into hysterical tears.

Ueda smiles and points to the screen.

A trailer for Black Ops III begins to roll.
Gunshots can be heard in the audience as well as bodies thumping on the floor.

This game is way more hype than substance at this point. Its turned into a running joke because it skipped an entire generation, and people have incredibly high expectations for a game that they have seen nothing on. If something from Ico shows up it will likly be a different title and not what people are expecting.

The fact that there are still die hards for this game after 10 years of nothing is rather astonishing. The game has had an incredibly troubled dev cycle and the only reason people are going crazy is because there is an incredibly vocal minority that loves to jump on the hype train when they hear about a game they haven't seen a thing on in 5 years.

I swear Sony could just slap the name The Last Guardian on anything that is generally affiliated with what remains of Team Ico and people will go wild and claim it will bring the internet down.

TLDR: Get your expectations in check, and hope that it is actually something interesting. The internet will not crash and keep the hype train in the station until you actually see what you have been waiting for all these years.

10 years?

Sony is pulling another "We aren't going to show anything till MS goes first"

Sony has bought the crash bandicoot and spyro liscences from activision. All your childhood favorites will return.

Crow's will shoot from Andrew Houses jacket sleeves and will fly into the mouths of the non believers.

Can some one explain why this is such a big deal?

I've never played ICO, but it sounds ancient, so why would this game be any different than let's say a Rare game or some other old classic comeback?

Wish Jack was still with them. TLG closing the show with that shit eating grin... >>>>

I mean, these games are incredible. Some of the best ever made. You should play them. ICO has aged in some aspects. But both are incredible.

Plus, people generally want things they can't have. Combine that with those games being so beloved by fans and critics...

Cuz Ueda is a mastermind of game design and has a knack for making his games very emotional and atmospheric. A lot of people consider SotC one of their favorite games ever. So yeah, he has rep.

Unfortunately his rep as a fuckup who can't produce a game is soon to eclipse his rep as a mastermind. Maybe it already has. He made ICO and SOTC from 1997 to 2005. That's 8 years as a success. It's been almost 10 years as whatever he is now.

What are you even talking about? Who is this vocal minority that get hyped over games they haven't seen in 5 years? What other games did this vocal minority jump on the hype train for 5 years later?

Talk about a party pooper, :(

Never played it, I'll see if I can watch some videos about it or educate myself.

Thanks.

Team I I under uedea released ico and shadow of the collosus both of which were critically highly praised and very well liked by gamers .

So everyone was excited about tlg . They wanted to see what team ico could do with the ps3 ... And then the whole troubles development happened game vanished off the map but always said to still be in development ... (Supposedly the scope of the game was not feasible on ps3 . Think the concept was to evoke pet feelings from the cat bird and use it to solve puzzles and develop a bond ... That probably needed massive ai work also ) ...

Now it's been so long the game has also gotten the added dimension of these long in dev games / rumored games eg agent etc

The combination of those two factors = tlg megaton

So because some rag say its going to happen, I'm supposed to get all giddy and drool in anticipation? Based on this website's good authority?

Yeah, no. I would love to be wrong, but come on.

Still not happening.

Edit: this has been my general stance since the game went into hiding years ago and seems to have remained in some sort of very weird development hell similar to Duke Nukem Forever and FF Versus XIII, just with even fewer updates. I'm having a hard time even believing this game is in any form similar to what was once shown to us years ago if it even exists past a basic design standpoint.

Not seeing this show up this year or even for some time.

I do too. I mean, it makes more sense than not that they would show it. Maybe they show it at a different conference, but I'm about as confident it will at least be shown this year as I can be about a game as troubled as The Last Guardian.

I agree that it's more hype than substance, because there is no substance. Or at least, none that we've seen outside the reveal. But people want and care about this because the two previous iconic games that were made by that creator. Those games were amazing and mean a lot to people. And well, people generally want to play the next game by certain creators and Devs. We will never know if a game will be great until it's released. Even if it's from a creator with a good track record.

I will say given all the delays and the issues with the creator, the major concern is how re-worked and different it is from the original vision. It could still be a great game even if massive changes were done.

That said, I agree that people will be exited regardless at this point. Based on the legacy alone, hype + excitement is guaranteed.

That doesn't mean the game will be loved just because the title is slapped on it. In fact IMO the game will more likely be treated more harshly because of how long it took to came out. The whole "this wasn't good enough to take x years to make" will be thrown around a lot. People will act like the game was worked on all those years constantly, and say it doesn't live up to the hype or all the time that went by. And if the game has changed quite a bit from its original vision, I think some will judge it harshly against that as well (even if it ends up being decent as its own new thing).

I agree expectations on the final product should definitely be kept in check. But I think that should be a golden rule for all games. This game def can't escape the legacy it has though.

Edit: I think it can cut both ways. I'm not saying people will only be negative.

I ALWAYS BELIEVED.

Grinning like a maniac in public because I can't contain my excitement. Not sure how I'll actually react if it does actually appear at Sony's conference. Would probably just keel over and blank out for a while.

GAF would explode if it was announced

It's gonna explode when it's not announced. Mods banning Guardian articles from this section of the forum, while some swear it was only off because Sony ran over time, others swearing it'll be there next year, and still others laughing because we know it's never hitting stores as a good game if it ever even hits stores.

Expect to only be able to access here for 2 hours out of the full day max either way.

I wonder whats going through the mind of anyone at Sony reading this thread.

Couple options

A) Damn wish this didn't leak. Oh well at leaat they are excited

B) Damn wish someone didn't make this BS rumor up. Those idiots still want this thing we'll never release

C) Damn this is awesome. That leak done in stealth by Shu is getting them hyped for our E3

A, B, C, and D) Damn, our fans are fucking weird

If it's acrually going to be announced, they are prob giddy as hell. Can't even imagine how hard it would be to sit on that info and not want to burst out and tell everyone.

If its not happening, they are probably going "fuuuuck, we need to shut this down"

BUT they haven't said anything yet. The dream is still alive.
