Dark Souls 3 announced (Early 2016, PC/PS4/XB1, Miyazaki Directing)

Yes, I believe the demo will be behind closed doors (as usual).
That's nice to know that the community idols are getting treated well. Hopefully they'll provide some useful impressions, as you say.

Thanks. I see you fighting the good fight a lot in the Souls threads and I figured sometimes it's worth stepping in.

Hmm... It seems to be a giant-sized humanoid wearing a crown. If that equates to "a giant lord" to you, then I can argue no more :) We don't know that it's "faceless", though.

Bonfires in Dark Souls are supposedly made from bones of the undead. Dunno if that helps your theorising, but I don't know where you got that initial idea from.

Haha, I was kidding with the second part :p, but they went out their way to show his head and the void under his hood/armour in the trailer.

Whatever it is, I hope we fight it and that it's not as dull a fight as the Giant Lord itself was

Nah, it more like the Dark Souls Crystal.

I'd say more like the Witch of Hemwick

I can't believe how many people were actually worried that it wouldn't come to PC.

But then again, like someone said it in the thread before as well, when we also have people who worry that we are all forced to play as the "trailer guy" or whatever, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Why closed doors ? To build hype ?

Too early maybe.
One might argue that they showed DkS2 too early and we all know how all that panned out.

With the way the console manufacturers throw around money to secure exclusivity or 'fund' games, I certainly wasn't going to take for granted that it would definitely happen. Though it was obviously the most likely situation.

Glad the original creator is back.

In the trailer and in that box cover, I see things lighting on fire. Will we play as the age of fire re-ignites (instead of fading out) this time?

Damn. When did we get the first gameplay video of bloodborne though? It might take the same time for them to reveal it.

Gamescom was the first time we got to see gameplay of Bloodborne. Trailer with gameplay and official video with a walkthough of the demo.

True, but it's still quite rare for a franchise to skip a platform it sold 3 million+ on.

I really wished that we wouldn't see Dark Souls 4. But rather, a new IP that inherit the blood and souls of the series.
What's the point then? Bloodborne might as well have been a Souls game for all it brought. Also Kings Field IV is incredible. Not even 4-5 installments in a series and people are complaining about Assasins Creed levels of milking.

The point is to free from the shackles of Miyazaki's own reputation? We've seen it with DkSII which is much more focused on combat rather holistic gameplay-world design of Miyazaki and that caused so much rift within the community. Personally I would like to love DkSII as well, but how my mind keep comparing it with DkS and how different it is in not necessarily bad way, prevents me from enjoying it.

Also people crying about Assasins Creed levels of milking is obviously hyperbole. FromSoft only just have a handful of employee and their game developing approach is much more personal than Ubisoft's assembly line one. That's why despite seemingly short development cycle, I still don't regard them as Ubisoft level of milking.

Eh, it's not Miyazakis fault that new From Software fans have an obsession with him.

oh definitely.

Same concept walking across a barren wasteland in a similar style with just some artistic license to not make it look like a direct rip-off etc. Don't know why ppl are trying to downplay any similarities.

Both Microsoft and Sony don't treat the PC as a direct competitor. They seem to be fine with bringing up PC games at their conferences and allowing games to release on their console and PC simultaneously.

The ironic part is there is no real point in owning an XBO or PS4 if you have a PC. The library has become saturated with console releases as well, so there is too much overlap.

Can we just stop with that. Please? Bloodborne, TLG, Horizon, Uncharted 4, FF7 remake is proof enough to me that selling my GPU and buying a PS4 was a wise decision.

Only one of those games have been released, but when they are I'll consider picking one up. Just referring to the current value of the consoles.

Even wind back the clock two years and Sony was using this awkward wording to advertise PC indies where Sony had funded a PS4 port.

You would literally have to rewatch the conference to get the exact word choice.

But we have gotten wwwaaayyy off topic here.

I know. I love it. Makes the PC unassuming. Better to compete while no one even thinks you are in the race.

Really love the idea of DS3 with the fire almost gone - hopefully there will be much more variety in bosses than just big guy in armor

yep the "exclusivity" wording in E3's in recent years was hilarious , always new ways to tell its exclusive without even mentioning that its coming to PC :-D (especially with indies)

really love the way PC is dying lately (iirc at least one article a year about PC platform dying was there since original PS days :-D)

I actually like how MS handled this at their conference this year. They were pretty straightforward about what was also on PC. In fact, the DayZ guy went so far as to use the ultimate "exclusive" qualification -- something like "Debuting on Xbox One and PC" :p

Now, I don't think FromSoft will stop producing Souls games since one of their MO is to exploit popular (niche, in the past) IP as much as possible.

Are you talking about Armoured Core?
I don't think they exploit popular/niche IP at all. Despite publishers owning the rights to their major series, they strike me as a studio that just wants to make what they find interesting and rewarding. (I'm not talking about sense of accomplishment gameplay stuff, rather the more humble and simple idea of just being proud of what you make.) They have never really been ones to follow popular trends or pump out sequels for the sake of it. I think you can expect to see some new stuff after Dark is finished, though.

Haha, I was kidding with the second part :p, but they went out their way to show his head and the void under his hood/armour in the trailer.

It's a cool shadowy figure beneath a chainmail hood. We don't see any DS2 giant face.

Whatever it is, I'm with you on the fight front :)

Switch Back 9

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
So I'm a little LTTP, been backpacking around Iceland for the last week and a bit so internet has been rare indeed.

Are we getting or have we already gotten a gameplay trailer?

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.

No word on gameplay yet.

Gameplay is apparently getting shown today, but we don't know whether it's for the public or behind closed doors.

Was refreshing. Kind of important for them too, if they want to maintain the image that they care(or are trying to care) about PC gaming.

I ammmm

sooo excited about this. But damn, a year away? I bought DSII SOTFS a day ago..just got to the iron keep, and despite having played through DSII to ng++ I still love it.

Looks gorgeous! I'm a big fan of the art direction they are taking with this one, it's a lot more dark fantasy than II, which is appropriate given the name.

I'm telling you guys, this will take place during and age of Dark!

I'm extra curious about the castle shown in the CGI trailer. It looks an awful lot like Anor Londo. It's hard for me not to think this game doesn't take place in Lordran. Seeing the Giant King (or a look alike) throws everything off for me though. This makes me think that this takes directly, or at least relatively soon, after DS2.

How do you guys think this series will end (storywise)?

HK-47

Oh, bitch bitch bitch.
Best DLC of all time coming through.

At least boss wise. I'd take the level design in the DkS 2 DLC over AotA.. But those only have three bosses and in two of them one of the bosses is lazy halfassed shit and in Sunken neither the Ganksquad or Elana are quite on the level of the truly great bosses. Meanwhile all 4 bosses in Artorias are top shelf.

Dark Souldiers,
Do the first two games (DS1 and DS2) tie into each other? My first "Souls" game is Bloodborne, but I'd like to try out Dark Souls 3 later. Just wondering if I should play the first two.
