Sony is Building a Hostage Crisis!!!!! (List of Games to Kickstarter)

Aureon

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.
By a large developer showing interest in a project, it indicates that the project has other avenues to become funded without putting causing the consumer to take a large amount of the risk. Why should crowdfunding become a common source of funding for game development when there are other options? A platform like Kickstarter (in which their is no guarantee for a final product) should only be used in cases where there are no other options. By Sony publicizing and providing funding for these products, they are showing that a game or franchise has options beyond crowfunding. Kickstarter is good for developers that literally cannot get enough funding from other sources to create the game that they would like to. If Sony stands to provide the brunt of the funding into kickstarted games, then why should those games be kickstarted?

You really have no clue how much games cost to fund, do you?

What Halo 5 level exclusive does Sony have for Holiday 2015? Console warriors are a small minority of the core gamer demographic, hence why the lead console changes so readily from generation to generation. Core gamers chase good hardware and good exclusives, and those core gamers frequently set the tone for the mainstream gamer.

Sony executed fantastic damage control from having: Santa Monica's new IP flop, Uncharted 4 slide into 2016, The Order being lackluster, and none of their other studios having a big title slated for late 2015. Their E3 show was fantastic marketing and their interest in Shenmue III is to that end.

Not as a publisher, as you originally stated, since they aren't publishing anything related to Shenmue.
That's my point exactly. People are dismissing the list of PS4 exclusives by putting in limitations to artificially deflate the list of titles. What Halo 5 level title? Who gives a shit. You were talking about exclusives. PS4 has plenty of exclusives coming out.

You had some strange conclusions.

I really don't understand why people are complaining so much at this. I mean, if it's a good way to bring old franchises that requires lots and lots of money to develop, I'm more than happy to contribute to this.

I just want to play my favorite franchises all over again ;)

I don't know why people is asking for IP's that Sony owns sincerely. In this case, they have to fund it entirely not ask people for money in a kickstarter.

Yeah, I can count off the top of my head 5 PS4 exclusives and 3+ "Console Exclusive" PS4 games I'm buying between now and the end of 2015. And like, there's around the same number of them coming that I have no interest in and am not buying and that's not even counting all of the Indie stuff that I don't keep track of very well. This year is crazy packed with games. I'm super freaking excited.

It was only a matter of time before big publishers started to use kickstarter, not upset at all cause I saw this coming once kickatarter became a thing

Yeah, with the successor of the market leader.

Personally I would totally pay for :

A new Ape Escape (PS4 & Vita)
A new Loco Roco (PS4 & Vita)
And finally... A great new Zettai Zetsumei Toshi for PS4 (in collaboration with JapanStudio ?)

But before any new Kickstarter, I would love new projects from JapanStudio for PS4 (& Vita). Please.

What Halo 5 level exclusive does Sony have for Holiday 2015?.
They don't need one for the holidays, because the holidays are run by multiplatform games and they have

Call of Duty
Battlefront
And
Destiny

Exclusives get buried during the holidays
And honestly, I don't see halo selling more than Battlefront, call of duty or Fallout on Xbox one.

Oh no. Oh no! Please release the game, Sony. The game is down. The game's at Kickstarter. There's the game. There's the gamer. There's too many of them! I can use some help over here! Funded! That was a close one! Yeah, baby!! Releasing. Releasing game now. Game launch secure. Game launch secure. Where's the game? Where's the game? Where's the game? Where's the game? Where's the game? Where's the game? Where's the game? Where's the game? Uh oh, uhh Sony, the game? Time is running out, there's not much time left! That's not good.

Oh my god! AUHH AHHHUUH HUHGHAHHGHGH.

Nothing happening over here.

Someone needs to make a list of games that everyone requested but never got made because Sony is trying to steal all of the kickstarter money that it can. Surely it has to be a long and never ending list given that this thread is bursting with posts.

Only neogaf would take something as glorious as Shenmue 3 being a real thing and twist that into a negative.

I don't know, 6 First Person shooters released over 2 months isn't quite enough, Sony really lost out there.

If Sony wants to create a list of games they want the public to pitch some money into while funding the rest, why doesn't Sony just create their own framework/service separate from Kickstarter? That way Kickstarter doesn't take up 10% of the funds that could have gone into developing the game itself.

I don't see the problem here. This is a there attempt at "put your money where your mouth is". There are a bunch of games people have been asking for as long as I can remember, the suits tell them there is no audience for that type of game and it's put on kickstarter to prove then wrong.

What truly interest me is if these games will get limited edition physical releases, if people are willing to pay hundred dollars plus to campaigns like Shenmue I think they would be more then willing to get some sort of bonus figurine with it.

It would cost money to make and operate something like this. Many people already don't like giving them their credit card numbers and use PSN cards to buy things from PSN. I think 10% for something like 2 million is alright.

Assuming S3 makes its stretch goal of $5 mil, 10% of that is $500,000. That's a lot of money that can go into improving the game.

Kickstarter is essentially becoming a giant thermometer for determining if people want something bad enough or not.

They're (gamers) literally having to put their money where their mouth is.

I'm not complaining at all, I think it's a good thing. But so long as we all keep in mind that not all projects are like this and there are still tons out there that rely 100% on the KS funding and don't have any outside money coming in to help.

This was the E3 of dreams. You KNOW Sony was looking at the most requested games of all time.

... So here's my updated list.

BEYOND GOOD & EVIL 2
ZONE OF THE ENDERS 3
VIEWTIFUL JOE 3
MEGA MAN LEGENDS 3
PRINCE OF PERSIA (sequel to 2008 cliffhanger)
LEGEND OF THE DRAGOON (sequel or remake)
LEGACY OF KAIN SERIES (sequel or remake)
SILENT HILLS
CRASH BANDICOOT
ENSLAVED 2
OKAMI 2 (not Okamiden)
CHRONO TRIGGER 2

... What major ones are missing?

Amazing how you can find a pattern within one single point of data. A datum pattern, if you would.

Perhaps it wasn't worded probably.

The disturbing trend aspect is to do with publishers latching onto popular Kickstarter's. Shenmue 3 the second, I doubt it will be the last.

The slimy aspect is do with the report of Sony coming up with a short list of KS games they might be interested in, but potentially only if they reach a funding threshold.

That's slimy. It used to be the job of a publisher to take risks on IP, now we've reached the point were people are actively arguing that they shouldn't take risks any more and all of it should fall on the consumer.

That's a broken strategy and not a sustainable one.

If sony wants to start kickstarters for games that have no other way of coming out im ok with it. To me its the same thing as pre ordering a digital game on their store.

I feel safer giving my money to a sony/microsoft/nintendo sponsored kickstarter then a new random developer who could just run away with the money.

I also agree with the people that are saying sony should start their own kickstarter type project.
