They've painted themselves into a corner with that name. I've got more than 2TB in mine, does that make me... superultimate, or something?

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm never really playing more than 2-3 games at once so the whole 500gb thing has never been an issue for me.

I would imagine console manufacturers are getting good deals from the storage manufacturers due to them soaking up inventory that is slightly behind the curve.

I must be a "ultimate player 2.0" since my 1TB is a 7200rpm and no doubt the one Sony will include will just be a 5400rpm.

Sony just give us bloody unlimited cloud storage.. everyone can just simply upgrade their own hard drives.

Hmm, I will wait for reviews on the new motherboard and prices. What I am a bit miffed about though is that they aren't retaining the matter trim from the JP unit. That looked like a nice change. I don't really need 1TB either.
Edit: Unless this comes at 399 that is, because I can replace the HDD with something even larger.

The internal HDD is user replaceable so that shouldn't be a problem on PS4...

Last time I checked 4TB 2.5HDD's were available, not sure if they fit (in term of height though)

The only 4TB 2.5 products I can find are external drives that are actually dual 2 TB HDDs in a Raid 0 configuration. The largest internal 2.5 inch drive I've seen comes to 2 TB.

I still have the stock hdd in mine, and already had to delete games a few times to make space. I should probably upgrade soon myself.

I'm already pushing 1T. 1.5 would've been the sweet spot.
Remember folks the PS4 drive is easily replaceable.

Easily replaceable yes, but there's room for error. I replaced the 500 with 1TB and after a few days it felt unnecessary for my needs so I decide to return it. Some how I tripped one of the nuts and now the hard drive is stuck... Forever. User error? Sure, but plug and play via usb is the best solution imo.

That's only for the initial install to boot up the game. The rest installs in the background for about 20 minutes, depending on the size of the game.

I always wait until the full install is done, to get the maximum performance.

Also this doesn't factor updates for disc games either, you'll still need to download them.

Look at Driveclub for example, sure the game on Disc itself takes up 16 to 18GB, but all of the updates and patches 10GB alone.

Sometimes deleting a disc game just to install later isn't the solution, especially when there is a sizable update in queue after the fact.

500 GB is even enough, people are exaggerating, The PS4 installs so fast deleting some games you are not currently playing is moot. It's really not a big issue/
Because waiting a few hours every time you might want to play some games on a whim is fun.

"Ultimate" lol, that makes my PS4 with a 2TB HDD even more ultimate...er.

But I am glad that they are already making tweaks to the hardware, making it lighter and more power-efficient. Will gladly upgrade to a PS4 slim.

SCEA continues to drop the ball...MS ends up surpassing ps4 it's all on SCEA's management... 1 TB console coming to europe July 15th, Sony said they do not know when or if it will come to NA....

Few hours??? Don't own a ps4 do you..it's minutes, and how plays 6-7 games all at the same time? For most people 500, or 1 TB is more then enough.
I'd like to see you downloading a 50GB game in a few minutes from PSN. Also who plays more than 6-7 games at the same time? I'm sure there are some, but the problem arises when you want to play something that isn't in that list of games for whatever reason and want to re-download it. Also plenty of people who go digital only could use even more space and especially at 500GB were limited, people have been sticking 2TB drives on their PS4 since day 1 and recently even larger drives. People have different usecases fancy that.

There's a market for this 1TB PS4.

People who are "too intimidated" to build their own PC still exist, so I doubt that same crowd would want to tinker with their PS4 like that.

Yes you are right but the point I am making is most people are not all digital nor play anymore then a couple games at a time, so for the average joe 500Gb or definitely 1 TB is ok. For the hardcore gamer who has gone digital and has a big library they play then yes bigger is better.

I hope in the refresh they made the cage ever so slightly taller, so we can use larger than 9.5mm drives. All it needs is a few milimeters.

I still don't think 1TB is enough space tbf.
My dream is for something like a 10 tb SSD or at least SSHD to exist by the end of the generation, preferably at an affordable price. Though maybe I'd be better off wishing for some sort of infinite storage device in hardware that could recreate reality.

1 tb is however a very good step and should swiftly become the new baseline. 500's too tight even when not getting many games.

I have a 2TB internal in my PS4. When you say 4TB, you're talking about an external hard drive, right? (I haven't seen a 4TB internal HDD)

I would love to change my PS4's 500GB drive, but it has PT on it. I will just have to keep deleting things
except PT obviously
when I finish playing.

It's really easy to change out the HDD on the PS4, got a 2TB in my PS4 and it's doing me wonders (though it's already half filled >_>)
