I guess I may as well skip out on the first one and wait for this.
This is OP material.People doesn't get what WMD is yet, I feel.
Project CARS 1 opened for members back in Oct 2011. We had access to an early pre-alpha build. I don't remember the exact number, but I can tell you it probably was between 50 and 100. the game released in 2015.
This time around we're getting build zero with todays joining. It means this is as early as it gets. Which means that the game will not be launching tomorrow, not a year from now, probably not even two years from now.
And the announcement needs to be done as early as possible because the more they start developing, the less input the comunity will have (it's easier and faster to develop something from scratch than rebuilding something). So this is why the very early announcement: to have evryone on board as soon as possible to have the best and more community driven development possible.
Start developing now, funding your own game and two years from now, when the game is one year away from releasse, open it for the community just because makes zero sense.
I¡m in again. I would recommend anybody intereste in the gaming industry, even if he doesn't like driving games, to join in. It's truely a very interesting and eye opener experience seeing devs working from inside.
Are starting a new game and continuing to update the old game mutually exclusive?
I feel like they should have held on to that announcement a bit longer. Like, a lot longer.
From Slighy Mad to Completely Insane.
This announcement doesn't make any sense, is this a joke?
I guess I may as well skip out on the first one and wait for this.
If Apple announced the iPhone 6+ 2 months after they launched the iPhone 6 I bet it would harm iPhone 6 sales because there are people who would decide to wait. Everyone knows that the sequel coming eventually, but the fact that it's already officially announced makes it harder to justify purchasing the current title.I guess you might as well skip Forza 6 and wait for Forza 7 in 2017.
Apple doesn't crowdfund their phones though. If you like the crowdfunding model of Project CARS then I think you need to be willing to accept that a sequel will need to be announced earlier so that it can be funded properly. If Apple announced the iPhone 6+ 2 months after they launched the iPhone 6 I bet it would harm iPhone 6 sales because there are people who would decide to wait. Yeah, quite odd.
Isn't announcing the sequel a marketing mistake? I mean people that would've been otherwise inclined to buy it the 1st may decide to wait for the 2nd instead.
As much as I hate hearing this, it's true nowadays.Released doesn't mean finished.
They have 40 people working on Project CARS 1.Too soon imo. There are a bucketload of issues with the XB1 version in particular, never mind PC and PS4 too. They should focus their time on that first.
Still backed though, gimme dat off-road racing
wow.....the first one just got sent me to me on gamefly...its only 2 months old....probably won't spend a whole ton of time then lol. How many companies announce a sequel to their game less than 2 months after release? That's insane.
This isn't a good move imo.
I was going to buy PCARS 1 but now I'll just wait PCARS 2.
It's a crowd funded game. They can't sit around for two years just so you feel good about your Gamefly rental being a fresh game.
It's only a bad marketing strategy for people who don't know much about game development. Most sequels get started after the previous game ships whether we hear about them or not. It sounds like they're still going to put out updates and content for PCars so I don't see what the big deal is.no, but others who had the feeling of buying the game, sure the fuck can. Why buy a game less than 2 months old when a new one is already guaranteed to come out and be better than the current product.
Sure you could say why by any game then.....but no other game I know of gets a sequel officially announced less than two damn months in.
Terrible marketing strategy.
The game won't be out for a long time. I'd be surprised to see it in 2017. They have to announce it early so they can get funding from their backers.

Tell me a game you have been inside the development proccess, have had access to daily builds and have participated in its development actively, either by sharing feedback directly with devs, voting internal polls or creating assets that were included in the final game.no, but others who had the feeling of buying the game, sure the fuck can. Why buy a game less than 2 months old when a new one is already guaranteed to come out and be better than the current product.

We'll see. I guess if everyone stops buying PCars, and no one funds PCars 2, all out of spite, then maybe you're right. I like to think that most people are reasonable though. When most people don't know crap about game development then yeah, it absolutely is a bad marketing strategy.
Even this thread with all the backers defending the announcement has many people who now think that they should not buy the first one. Great success, huh?
Am I misremembering or didnt they actually talk about this before the first game released?
This isn't a good move imo.

Did they say they weren't going to keep improving the game?If they're going for that quick console sequel strategy instead of focusing on improving the game, I'll leave it to the original backers who get more value out of it. Seems reasonable to me.
Because people don't know crap about game development, they aren't aware the sales fall flat around shortly after release. Sales from here on out aren't going to make a huge difference.
Seriously, the only real concern here is how little passionate fans of this hobby understand it.
