Girls dig this shit.

I wear this. Great cologne. /recommend

Well, to make things a bit more confusing, I think the english term cologne mostly refers to "eau de toilette" (or is it just a general term for male scent?). "Eau de cologne" you actually don't see that much in the stores, it's mostly EdT and most of the colognes posted in this topics are EdT.

The more you know!

Let's hope it's good! I was going to go for my usual Bvlgari Aqua Marine but thought I'd go something different for the summer scent. I also got a bottle of Guerlain Vetiver so hopefully I'll like one of the two.

edit: Any thoughts on Versace Pour Homme? I was eyeing that one too.
I haven't smelt Versace personally, but I like to have a variety of different scents depending on the occasions and my mood.

This is my current rotation-

Going out at night - Armani Black Code or Encre Noire

General/Every day - Nautica Voyage or Chris Adams Classic

Special occasions/Dates: CK Dark Obsession, Bvlgari Aqva, or Hugo Boss No. 6

I have Abercrombie Fierce too and used to get so many compliments about it. That was until I bought Hugo Boss Bottled Night. My Abercrombie cologne is sat in my room hardly used now. I would definitely recommend the Hugo Boss :)

I don't have the means or the time to go cologne shopping but I really want to try some of these. Is there any way I can get free samples or something akin to that?

Not that I know of. You're best bet is to just go to any store that sells it and ask to smell some. I think some Sephora stores have a men's fragrance section that let you test them all yourself, so you don't have to deal with sales people pressuring you to buy more expensive ones

They also let you take a vial for free, but that means you'd have to ask someone. It's a nice test for a few days to see if you like it.

My favourite is Terre D'Hermes by Hermes, I personally think it's killer, but I get the most compliments from Hugo Boss XY unfortunately. XY always feels like a winter scent to me, so I don't bring it out much in the summer months.

I'm 27 years old and I've never worn cologne. Just never had the urge to. So if I go buy a bottle of Mambo, how do I apply it on without freaking everyone out?

There isn't really a science to it. One, maybe two spritz around your neck/chest. And one spritz on your wrist, then rub your wrists together to spread it out.

edit- I just read something that said specifically *not* to rub it in. Maybe there is some science to it.

I started wearing this recently:

Best decision! I usually use this one or wonderwood/ amazing green. It's an unusual scent and the people around me seem to like it too (not that I care about that). I like that this brand tries to combine fresh and new ingredients because I really hate this typical musk scent.

You should not be rubbing your wrists together.

The heat created by the friction actually changes the "flavour of the scent"

Two spritz on the chest, 1 on each wrist.

And please, for the love of Bruce Almighty, don't spray directly onto your clothes

Also, I used to have many different scents but I gave most of them up when I found out they are made of synthetically-created scents. I know use Creed Aventus and Montale Paris, which are more natural.

D&G Light Blue is the one cologne I've ever really loved, and is the only one I own. I'd maybe like a few more, but have no idea how to find similarly "light," less masculine scents.
shop in the women's section or go niche.

prada infusion d'iris is a good gender neutral summer flavor that can be found relatively easily. I was pondering a purchase but serge luten's filles en aiguilles has pulled me away. or maybe not. I go back and forth. in any even, iris-leaning stuff is generally fairly unisex and gentle.

Please tell me that the Abercrombie bottle actually has that image of a naked man on it. I need a laugh.

Old Spice Sport + Curve.

Been using that combo for like 17 years and i get at least one compliment a month on how good i smell. Although that could be contributed the various creams/lotions and body wash i use.
Haha curve. .. The good old days

I don't currently wear any cologne. I've got some old spice around here somewhere.

Boy do I hate cologne.

My wife and I are hardly hippies, but neither of us feel any compulsion to wear fragrances.

Walking down the street in Chicago all weekend, I wish the randos we passed all agreed with us. It's unbelievable how much stanky cologne men will lather on. Does it ever work? Yuck.

Wearing too much cologne is a sign of depression, is what I heard on a morning radio show once.

So I'm curious about something... do guys wear cologne to get chicks? Or do they wear them for themselves?

I mean, not to assume that y 'all are some monolithic hivemind, just curious what the motives are.
no i just like the smell, they put me in a nice mood and i like to carry them with me... for example, nobody really seems to enjoy cuir d'ange in my house but that isn't stopping me from soaking in it this summer. on occasion. my little bottle is frighteningly expensive.

I remember reading a thread like this some 4 years ago. Burberry Brit was a popular recommendation, and a ran with suggestion on dates. I got compliments every single time.

Oh and I'm really digging a few of the Versace fragrences right now.
Yeah, I have the three Versace and I love them. Pour Homme is my fav, Eros for when it makes sense, and Eau Fraiche strangely for times when colonge isn't normally in the picture. An older one I have is Clinique Happy for men, which is like a less refined Eau Fraiche, and Tommy Bahama Compass is kind of like "Younger, hipper Old Spice goes on vacation" or something like that.

I get good comments wearing

Giorgio Beverley Hills - Yellow

Antonio Puig - Quorum

Yes they are cheap & from the 70's, but i don't like limp smelling aftershave, i want to smell it, i often get people asking "what is that you have got on?" i tell them & then the price of it & they say "i'm gonna look at getting some of that".

I also love,

Jean Paul Gaultier - Le Male

Givenchy - Pi

This is my current aftershave shelf (yes i know, Sex Panther)

I can't believe people wear cologne and think they smell good, it's one of the worst, strong, most offensive smells and you usually wear way too much and don't realize it. That's some high school shit, might as well just wear Axe.

When you get a compliment with cologne it's because people noticed a smell, not because it smells good.

Do yourself a favour, buy 'Nemat amber oil' online. It smells clean and wonderful and you'll get compliments from literally everyone. EVERYONE. I have only let two friends in on this oil and they thank me about once a month.

Big pharma HATES this amber oil!

Hah, they should! They have a cult following for a reason. It's also much cheaper as you aren't being sold it by topless male celebrities.

And the nice thing about oil- it smells consistently through the day, so you don't overcompensate before going out and make everyone walking by you or in the elevator puke.

You can also use it in your beard, if you have one.
