Batman AK PC Perf Thread of DARKNESS, NO SETTINGS [30fps cap / intro removal in OP]

I've managed to get it running at something approaching vaguely acceptable on high settings after tweaking the pool size & memory margin, with an uncapped framerate and vsync on (1920x1200, GTX 970).

I also disabled the Nvidia smoke effect because summoning and using my Batmobile obliterates my frames if I have it on, and I turned off motion blur in the .ini because blegh. I get the occasional hitching and it's only ever a smooth 60 indoors, but it's better than the horrendous stuttering mess it was when I first tried it.

Dreadful shame not only about the general performance of the port for most people but the lack of effects like ambient occlusion. A lot of the surface detail in the environment is lost and the city has a blander look to it as a result.

how is GSYNC coping with this game? I'd imagine 40-60fps would be playable on a high end system (its basically what I did with Unity back at launch).

But the other issue is those missing effects and texture problems, I wouldn't want to play this in its current state.

So I got a free code for this with my GTX 970. I'm assuming I'm just stuck with a dead code or something now? Anyone here know? I haven't received the card yet, its being delivered still.

I actually find it really harder to parse information in just about every outdoor scene because of this. There's so much going on, and it's all kind of a flat mulch without shadowing that would help me make better sense of it.

Kinda alright, the thing is the dips in framerate are so abrupt that you see that something isn't right with the framerate, even with G-Sync. I have pretty good framerates with my 980 SLI, but it's in no way stable and it shows a lot especially with that damn motion blur.

I have to assume that your code is still valid. There's no reason for WB to lock you out of your copy. It's already been "sold", as far as they are concerned. They are preventing new people from joining this shitstorm by blocking the sale of the game, but not existing users.

Performance is wildly inconsistent. Just did a batmobile AR challenge and the first few tries were fine, but the hitching and frame drops kept increasing the more I played it. By the end, it was a stuttering mess.

A lot of tweaks and fixes have posted so far, but there's been people who've said they haven't worked, or made things worse. Are there definite answers for

1. Whether the latest "game ready" Nvidia drivers are safe
2. Whether uncapping the framerate is safe
3. Whether messing with any or all .ini files is safe

?

Got a response from GMG:

I am sorry to hear that you want this product refunded. I have processed this request and refunded this purchase, your funds should appear in your Paypal account within the next 24 hours.

Yay, I guess.

rofl, my download has finally ended few hours ago....It is much better than what I was expecting after 3 days of IronGalaxyGate.

I still use 353.06 drivers with my 970, I don't dare to upgrade them. I had to turn off the AA in the settings to stop the huge stuttering.
I didn't touch anything else and now it is definitely playable for me.. not the prettiest game but 3 hours in and no big issue.

I wish I could play in 21:9 ratio though, but I won't expect anything in the short term considering the priorities, unless someone finds a way.

Any official words about a patch yet beside their PR and refund/pulling off from Steam?

If the frame rate drops weren't so sudden and down to the teens, it would be a bit better. It's playable but feels off, most likely the textures not loading and the missing AO and such.

I was playing the ps4 version today. I can't tell the difference with AO on or off.
But the rain effects on bats and on the batmobile are a big change.

Framerate while driving around is rough. I honestly have better framerate on pc.

All three are safe. I don't know of any negative externalities the drivers create for other games, but my first time playing AK was with the previous drivers and the Nvidia drivers were an improvement.

Did anything changed when you upped the poolsize and memorymargin?

When I first tried the game out I would play for maybe 5 or 10 minutes before it would start stuttering horribly, and I'd have to restart the executable (indicating a possible memory leak?) to get it somewhat playable again.

Post-ini tweaks the performance isn't exactly stellar but the bad hitching is no longer there. Other than disabling Gameworks smoke, that's pretty much all I did. I haven't gone back to a default ini to see if that's what ultimately did it.

It's the only thing that's allowing me to play this game properly. At 1080p my FPS range is 50-110 but with G-SYNC I don't even notice the dips at all. Allows me to play at 1440p without much trouble as well.

It's hilarious that it's taken off steam now. It seems like only people like me that have overpowered rigs for 1080p are getting decent results.

I typically game at 1440 but have been playing this at 1080 to retain all effects. I get mostly 60fps with everything maxed but I'm also playing with a 980ti OC'd, 4670k OC'd, and 32gb ram. I still get dips in the batmobile but nothing nearly as bad as what I've seen in this thread.

Curious has anyone tried forcing AO through Nvidia control panel?

Edit: nvm the option is grayed out, says unsupported lol.

The missing graphic effects from PS4 version are still unacceptable to me, I'm waiting until they patch it and hope they do more than just address performance.

Nvidia Inspector allows you to force AO in games that aren't officially supported. That being said, I have not yet found a compatibility flag that works with AK.

Just this from earlier:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=169743200&postcount=6707

Though I reverted the "bAllowSwitchingStreamingSystem" line to default since setting it to "True" caused my game to freeze for 5-10 seconds every so often. At least that seemed to be the cause, since changing it back stopped the freezing.

Did nothing for me unfortunately, using a 280X. Definitely done with the game and with me trying to fix it myself, until a "patch" comes out.

So everyone with 12GB or more seems to be doing OK. Is that right?

Seems if you have an Nvidia card with 4GB or more, you're in the clear. If you have less than that or you're on team red, you're fucked.

I mean, performance is relatively ass across the board regardless, but you probably won't get the freezes if you're in the first category. It can't really be called stuttering, it's goddamn freezing.

Nope, even on an normal titan at 1440 it eats the whole 6gb so you get stutters for days.
I was referring to ram, not vram. I have a 4gb card and 16gb ram and I don't get stutter. I have had one freeze in 5 hours. Just thought that might be it...

thats good to hear i guess, but at this point i'm just gonna hold off until they at least get those textures and effects sorted.

No I read some post some hours ago about a guy who had 16gb ram and a 970 and it's a mad stutterfest for him too.

I'm on 8GB RAM with a 3GB card and I'm not getting the stuttering. Some crashes to desktop and a slow texture pop-in on odd occasions though

Incorrect. Team red here 7950 at the "minimum recommended" GPU and I'm getting 50-60fps with everything maxed except shadows.

That's the problem - there are no uniform results. I have a 970 and 16GB of RAM and it runs fine for me. You have to take into account that some people may have a PC full of bloat software, and different virus checkers etc etc that may cause conflicts.

I *only* game on my gaming PC - nothing else is on it. No virus software or anything, and I haven't had any issues with games for as long as I can remember. It helps.

You have to take into account that "fine" for you probably isn't fine for everyone. Is the game locked at 60 fps? Does the game have AO / proper AA / no texture streaming issues? No it doesn't. And for me and a lot of people that's not acceptable.

We are discussing stuttering though and how it can effect two identically specced machines differently.

I'm not arguing that it isn't a crap port with missing features - it is! The question is, why do some people get stutter and some not.

I think some just notice it more then others. Multiple times now people have posted videos they either recorded or that they watched and said "It's playing fine for this guy" or "Not stuttering for me" and in the recording the game is stuttering.

Not to the extremes we are getting with this game though. I've watched videos where the game literally pauses for seconds at a time. That to me is incomparable to, for example, a brief stutter while a game auto-saves or loads the next section of map into memory, or similar. One of those is unplayable, and the other is just something I personally would accept.

In that case, still no at least for me. I'm on 16gb. It really is just a case of YMMV.

Yeah, it really is weird. I had a friend who refused to believe I was stutter free and had to upload a video on youtube to prove it, because his system was beefier than mine and he had horrible stutter.

Gmg approved my refund, they said it might take a bit for the funda to return to my bank account. Will not buu this game unless it has hbao+ in the future.
