Warner Brothers suspends [new] purchases for PC version of Batman Arkham Knight

Well this is appaling. But looking at the bright side, it must had been a good test for the new Steam refunds system. Bet Steam refunds are the reason they pulled the game from the store.

edit: But this doesn't bode well for the PC version of Killer Instinct since Iron Galaxy are also developing it. erggh

If anything, I'm sure they don't want any more execs, fans or press chasing them into the grave so they should be more likely to take the "it'll be ready when it's ready" approach.

Iron Galaxy has a pretty good history of porting fighting games though.

Since they've been working on the code for Season 2 this entire time, taking over the game after Double Helix was bought, I think it is a very, very different situation than whatever happened here.

That video looks pretty decent if it is PC? Im seeing PS4 button prompts tho. They did OD on PS4 demos too so im not convinced

yeah it run well and have almost all the effects missing from the final PC version.

Dax Ginn will not say it's the PC version for no reason if it's wasn't.

Killer Instinct could very well be a Windows Store exclusive, since it's already a Windows 10 exclusive

It switches to PS4 prompts if you plug in a Dualshock 4 with a USB cable (and have the proper drivers from DS4Windows, etc).

I don't think we should blame the man for defending the most possible outcome.

He was wrong this time but would have been right for 8 out of 10 times on average. Obviously I made up those numbers, but I think you'll get the point.

GMG no longer selling AK. Good on them.

I guess the only sites left will be other key resellers?

edit: Amazon not selling digital, selling physical through marketplace but not through their stock.

True. IG was probably rushed by WB. If anything, WB is responsible for releasing the game in the state it was.

Even so, it's not very common for a PC port to display Playstation button prompts. XBox stuff usually appears regardless of what's plugged in.

For retail games.

Vertical slices built around a Sony partnership at a trade show are obviously going to make any developer put in PS4 button prompts.

if it was that case (Vertical slices to fool people it's on PS4) then Rocksteady guy will just say it's a PS4 build... yet he said it's the PC build.

This is huge! I suppose we have to thank steam refund and the bad users review. Hopefully AAA games will be actually optimized for PC in the future.

Man has this release been a show. Just lovely. On one hand its a great fiasco to watch, on the other hand, I'm part of the group with a broken free code. *oh well* here is to hoping the game gets fixed in the coming months.

A lot can happen in a year. Remember all of those great Bioshock Infinite previews we saw a year or more before the game launched? Or the changes the Witcher 3 saw from when it was first shown till it was approaching release?

You really can't take what you see from a game until it's at or near launch. Maybe the PC build they were showing was running on SLI Titan Xs with +16 gigs of ram, maybe it was running without many of the effects that the game launched with. There are a lot of factors at play when a game is in production and what is fully functional today could just as easily fall apart tomorrow once you add effects, scripting, features, etc. You can't keep pointing to a video or preview from a year ago and say SEE IT WORKED LOOK IT WAS WORKING!!! because for what we know that build had issues that were never shown to the press.

So Rocksteady took the project back inhouse, or maybe they are supporting IG?

Sounds like they're taking control and fixing it themselves. Imagine you made a fantastic game and the port studio took a shit on it and made you look bad, I wouldn't be happy.

We don't know the details of the contract. Could be IG that mismanaged their deadlines/milestones of their contract work. Could be WB that pulled the rug under their feet.

For anyone who cares, here's an example of the terrible performance on PC. This is me meeting
Firefly
for the first time (about 30% of the way through).

This game is obviously too much for a GTX 970 and 4670k.

The amount of vram this game gobbles up is ridiculous. There's no reasons at 1080p it should use more than 2gb

Well, I think it's safe to assume they're working together.

You definitely want access to the people who made the mess, so you can communicate and reach a solution based on the work that made the mess.

He knew the game was fucked but still let them release it. Why? Have some pride in your work.

What is he supposed to do? Not hand over the files until security escorts him out of the building? Warner owns them and the game, they can do what they want with it.

1) Realise game is broken on PC
2) Fear bad press for delaying PC version
3) Release PC version anyway
4) Issue "recall" of PC version
5) Earn the goodwill of PC players
6) ???
7) Profit

Used VRAM =/= Required VRAM

Some games like to use all available VRAM just because it's there, but they may not need more than e.g. 1.5GB @ 1080p with High settings. Witcher 3 basically does it when you toggle texture quality from High to Ultra. With High game uses <2GB, but with Ultra it starts eating VRAM >2GB because it just caches extra stuff into there.

Making it explicit that it's a PC version running at PS4 targeted settings gives them an out in case the final console build of the game doesn't end up looking like a version they showed off two E3s ago.

This kind of illustrates another problem. If they would have delayed it, people would have freaked out, even if they're transparent and say it's not ready. If they release, people freak out. There was no way for them to win, though I suppose the lesser of two evils here is to delay it. Basically, no matter what, people freak out and I can't imagine what it must feel like to release video games in a climate like this.

I wonder if they will give the fixed version a different title "Arkham Knight: Ultimate armor edition" or some shit, just to get it a new store page clear of all the negative reviews.

Even in this terrible state, it's one of the best looking games I've seen to date. Impressive.

Did we ever get a final judgement on if that "60 fps" video was fake or not? WB suspended sales shortly after people said that video was sped up.

I actually think it's aesthetically less pleasing than the other Batman games which to be fair weren't that aesthetically pleasing to being with (All the characters look like WWE ringside agents). Sure there are a lot of effects, but the art direction is lacking in my opinion...and that obviously has nothing to do with performance.

Pretty class move in my book, although would have been better to just delay PC release for a few months and get it right... but then you might have gamers crying console conspiracy theories.

To me it looks like they did the best they could, I'll give them a pass.

I don't know man...

It's like an assault on the senses, the effects are almost smeared across the screen. IQ is pretty abysmal, there's just too much visual noise.

I really don't think it looks nice at all.

I don't think it's classy, it's just something they have to do because this debacle is hurting their bottom line now and will going forward unless they take action. It's smart, but they're not looking out for us.
