Looks like we've got a celebrity that doesn't want to be judged in the thread.

So basically, celebrities are human beings in privileged positions whose interpersonal skills ranks from fantastic to deplorable.

Sounds about right.

What the fuck does one's personality have to do with his career? Is bjork suddenly a bad musician because she's a disgusting human being? Is Blue is the warmest colour any less of a masterpiece because Abdellatif Kechiche is a prick? Hell no, it's completely unrelated and we don't get a say in ANYONE's disposition.

Grow the fuck up, these people owe you nothing and vice versa.

I've met a ton of celebrities at my job and I didn't let the fact that they weren't nice influence my opinion of them as professionals. Yeah, Tim Burton and Rowan Atkinson are asses... so what? They're great at what they do. And Jude Law being a sweetheart doesn't make him any better of an actor.

Expecting something out of someone who's life you have no role in qualifies as both absurd and self-entitled.

Yes, how dare we expect people to be at least vaguely polite/not dickheads.

My sister was drinking a beer with Gossip after visiting one of their concerts in Germany. That was before they had their breakthrough here, but apparently they've been really nice. 10 years ago or so I met the drummer/ song writer of Nena (99 Red Balloons) while shopping for groceries in Berlin, but didn't talk to him.
Other than that I've never met any noteworthy celebrities. Brad Pitt was once walking past the house of a friend, while I was there, because he was visiting the documenta and my friend lived right next to mountain bunker that was used as an exhibition room for it. We only learned about it from the news, though. :p

Is it too much to expect people to not be dicks to other people? I'd like to live in a world where everyone's cool to eachother, and where talent in one specific field isn't a free pass to be an asshole to everyone you encounter.

Relax Z, everyone knows it doesn't really matter and that they're forming opinions off of single interactions (when it comes to the personal experiences) which may or may not have been that persons typical mood/behavior.

So what? People are just discussing things and sharing stories.

No one has been getting up in arms and going on rants about how much of a fuckwad some particular celeb might be and "who do they think they are?!" type stuff which feels like the opposite of what you're doing now.

I know people that met Roberto Benigni in a Hotel. He is basically a kid just like his characters, he made jokes to keep waiters happy, and whenever some shy fan was approaching he found a way to break the ice. After a week everyone was almost exausted by his energy.

I get to go to the BAFTA's and IFTA's for the last 5 years so I've bumped into a few celebs. Have never met any really mean or bitchy celebs, unless you include people who work in Irish TV (but I don't count them). Though the weirdest/surrealist meeting would have been with Woody Allen, really nice guy, but super shy. didn't really want to chat about his films, but I mentioned that I had seen him in concert the last time I was in NYC and he smiled and said thanks.

Nicest:

Michael Fassbender - loves Guinness, nicest actor I've ever met. Have met up with him a good few times since in both London and Dublin.
Saorise Ronan - really down to earth and super nice
Jack Nicholson - personification of cool
Jennifer Lawerence - really nice
George Clooney - very nice and chatty about his films, even the bad ones.
Mark Kermode - chatted with him about his BBC Radio 5Live show and his latest book
Nigel Floyd - really nice guy, super knowledgeable about films
Paul Thomas Anderson - Kept to himself, but was nice when I said "hi" to him
Danial Day Lewis - very shy guy, very tall too. but very pleasent.
Hugh Jackman - really nice and chatted to everyone
Christoper Nolan - nice guy to talk to in general but when he talks about film he came across more intense.
Robin Wiliams - chatted more about games then his movies, was saying he was looking forward to BF3
James Cameron - said hi and we fist bumped, told him he was still "king of the world" (Avatar had just came out) and he smiled
Kathryn Bigalow - very nice lady
Russell Crowe - very cool dude, spent about 30 mins talking about Munster taking on the All Blacks in rugby and how he wanted to go the game in Limerick, but didn't know if his schedule would allow him.
Stephen Fry - he's exactly how you think he would be.

I don't usually take pics, but I do have a few on my PC.

Haven't met a celeb that wasn't chill. Paul Simon was on another level. He was alone on the same ferry as me and we ended up sitting together and chatting. No one else recognized him.

Yes, how dare we expect people to be at least vaguely polite/not dickheads.

You say this as a joke, but that's actually a very solid argument, in my book. I'm a very nice person, but I can't stand this kind of politically correct bullshit. On the one hand we're all fueling the most fucked up and twisted system in the known universe and don't even flinch an eye when we're confronted with the atrocities our "high standard of living" lifestyle facilitates across the planet. We silently accept and enable a culture of slavery which essentially makes monsters of us all (which we refuse to believe though we perfectly know to be true) just so we won't have to give up our hedonistic comforts... but hey, it's all good, what really matters is that we're all vaguely polite. Ridiculous.

I'm one of the nicest people you can meet and I've never met a single person I disliked, but believing you're better than anyone else for putting on a fake smile and pretending to have the patience is just delusional thinking.
In an ideal world, everyone should indeed be nice. But this whole enforced happiness culture is sickening. If someone doesn't feel like being nice, who are we to judge them for it without knowing the full story? It's the most self-entitled thing ever.

Is it too much to expect people to not be dicks to other people? I'd like to live in a world where everyone's cool to eachother, and where talent in one specific field isn't a free pass to be an asshole to everyone you encounter.

Free pass? That's the opposite of reality... if you're a celebrity you get a ton of flack for being anything less than super nice, where as any john doe on the street wouldn't even warrant the energy from most people.

Either someone pissed in his cereal or Z is actually William Shatner.

Got a laugh out of me.
No, man, celebrity culture just pisses me off.

I met Cara Delevingne at a gig in Hyde Park a few weeks ago, she was cool as hell and even posed for pictures. Apparently I was the first to wish her good luck being Enchantress in Suicide Squad. The rest were mostly girls clamoring all over her because of her being a model/friends with Taylor Swift etc... Kind of felt sorry for her in that aspect. Also goddamn she's absolutely beautiful in person.

Instead of going on a rant you should read people's posts properly.
I'm not saying anything about their skills.
I'm asking if anyone's been dissapointed when meeting a celeb because they turn out to be dicks. Firstly.
And secondly I expect anyone and everyone to not be a dick and simply be polite / friendly.

I understand that. What I'm asking is... what gives you the right of expecting optional social niceties from anyone who's life you're not an integral part of? How is that not a false sense of entitlement on your part towards people who owe you nothing?

Met Iain Lee, absolutely hilarious. Also met Gemma Atkinson twice. Lovely lady and holy fuck, is she fit.

I very briefly met Christian Slater and he was cool. Also Pharell and oh my God, what a prick.

You really feel strongly about this...give me a break dude. The celebs are millionaires and their lives are set, the least they could do is not be an asshole.
Some people get caught on bad days but there are multiple stories of celebrities out there that show its their true personality.

Now I am jealous.

I met Bob Geldof once, he came across as very arrogant frankly.

I was taught at music college by the drummer of The Boomtown Rats. He said the same thing as you. I was an arrogant young prick at college and made him literally walk out and never comeback. We heard he was working in a clock factory after that.

I also once shook hands with Frank Bruno after he got kicked out of the Big Brother house. He stayed in a hotel I was a waiter in and I had to give him coffee in his room. I knocked on the door and he opens it wearing just a towel and continued to congratulate me that I met him. I couldn't give a fuck about boxing.

Oh yeah, my brother once met Nicholas Cage when he was working in a toy shop in the south west of England. I couldn't believe it, we grew up on his films. I was so jealous.

Also, Phillip Schofield once ate in a restaurant I worked in. Beat that.

Ah yes, I forgot we're westerners... money is the solution to every problem around these parts, right?

I get what you're saying, and yes... they SHOULD be nice to people (after all, if it weren't for their fans, they would be nobodies), I'm simply saying that they are under no obligation to do so, and if they choose to be asses (like many do), we shouldn't let it influence our professional opinion of them. Am I happy that Atkinson is consistently a self entitled jerk every time I have to deal with him at work (I work part time as a concierge in a cinema in Hampstead, London, an area that's packed with artists and celebrities)? No. But neither does it have any influence on what I think of the man.
On the other hand, it is always nice when Hayley Atwell or Sacha Baron Cohen drop by as I always have a laugh with them (she's a massive flirt, sue me for liking it). But that doesn't make them better people than Atkinson, they're just different.

Some country music band was in town and the girl which was one of my friends which is crazy and everyone had a thing for her dragged me to the signing. They were all like "yo want a picture", and I was all like "yeah ummm...not really a fan"

Nope, but I mostly met Internet personalities and voice actors.
Brentalfloss was a bit awkward, but that was when he just started out. Second time around was much better.

Best to remember they are people as well. Honestly I met more jerk convention attendees than celebs, ha ha.

I met Kevin Shields from my bloody valentine when he toured here with Primal Scream and he was super nice and down to earth and my pal and I had drinks with him and the band.

Met George Michael and Lionel Richie in the 80s too haha, but they were more fleeting experiences. Lionel gave me the drummer's drumsticks as a souvenir.

I met Alyssa Milano back in 2003 when she came to Qatar on a USO tour and while signing autographs she had a wardrobe malfunction and out pops a breast. So yes, I was not disappointed. Not really celebs I guess, but I watched Jenna Bush trip and almost fall off the Airstairs and I gripped Rumsfeld's hand so tightly during a meet and greet I almost broke it and he walked off shaking it out lol.

I love that Jack Nicholson pose, too cool and relaxed. Always thought he keep to himself.

Served Scarjo, nice and polite, not that hot but she was just chilling during the day.

I met puff daddy about the time I got out of high school and he came off as really snobby/ a jerk to me. Apparently, I also ran into a d-list BET celebrity and a 'super model' while working at Victoria's Secret (the models mom told me I was bad at doing my job because I didn't know that her daughter was a VS model and she never told me her name or anything).

I met Craig Charles of Red Dwarf in a sandwich shop, he was great, happy to talk about Red Dwarf and how much fun he has working on Takeshi's castle.

Haha, that's awesome, he came into my work a few months ago and all the regulars (I work in a pub) started asking him questions and he was happy to have everyone around him and talk to them. He'd just finished a gig as well so big respect to him!

Hampstead, eh? Maybe I should pay this cinema a visit...

My friend and his sister are those people who find out where celebrities are and get selfies with them. Apparently, they guy who plays Jimmy King in Ready to Rumble (I forget his name and don't know what else he's in) wouldn't take a picture with them and, thus, a piece of shit.

I met Zombine once.

Tell them how awesome I am.

I've met quite a few celebrities because of my job, and my most favorite ones to have to interact with are definitely WWE wrestlers. As long as they are out of character they are typically polite and friendly and are just all around awesome folks.

My only personal heartache was when I was at NYCC last year, and I met Juanjo Guarnido, the Disney animator and artist on Blacksad (a book I fell in love with quick.) When I saw him sitting there all by himself I went over and introduced myself and told him what a fan I was, and he was just like "ok." And I told him
That I would have loved to have him sign my
Copy of the latest book, but I already brought it back to my hotel and he said, and I quote, "Sucks to be you" and he went back to doing whatever the hell it was he was doing. I was pretty devastated and i think if anyone went back to the October ComicGAF thread they would see that it really hurt me. I haven't been able to enjoy that book since.

A colleague of mines sister works at a nearby film studio, and recently had to deal with Tom Hanks, who was apparently an insufferably unpleasant git to everyone working there.

Personally I've never met any unpleasant celebrities though, thankfully. Particularly Tom Baker (the 4th Doctor) and Jodie Prenger (actress and winner of I'd Do Anything), who are incredibly nice people who seem to genuinely enjoy meeting fans.

This is the exact opposite of everything I've heard about Hanks.

I love these threads. Sam Neill being a nice guy makes me happy, while Rowan Atkinson being a jerk makes me sad.
