I shrugged off no DMC5 at E3 pretty well but I'll be pretty legit shook if we don't get something at TGS

Shenmue 3, FF7 remake and TLG were all announced before DMC5.

After the DmC reboot was announced I figured DMC5 was going to be teleported to the same realm of nonexistence as those games. But now that dimensional portal has been ripped open.

You know what, I bet DMC5 will still beat all those games to market..

Also this.

And I bet it reviews better than at least two of them

Yeah, I was thinking they could take inspiration from Venom and add more Bo staff oriented melee and trap moves. Knocking both enemies and phantom balls into ricochet moves. You could even have the cue break apart or extend during combos for added variety, which is still in line with the original vision since specially made cues can be disassembled. It's a very Dante weapon. Turning something innocuous looking into a weapon, like Nevan or Pandora.

And honestly, I'm just glad we're even taking about a potential DMC5. There was a very real possibility that we'd never see classic DMC again. Itsuno said as much. The struggle has been real.

I think TLG beats it, the other two sure.

I know what a time it is to be a gamer.

Reviewers are harsh on DMC4. GS gave the SE a 6/10, which is baffling.

It's not like if they put in Bows/Axes that they won't have some crazy spin on them.

Like a bow weapon could be a dual wield light based sword weapon that can be combined at the bottom of the hilts to make it into a bow that shoots light based projectiles. It could be a weapon that occupies both a melee and firearm slot as it could function as two weapons in one.

Definitely understandable. DMC4's designs are not acceptable in 2015. It's a game geared towards the hardcores with the content they decided to focus on. Better that the game gets these reviews now so that Capcom can be reminded on what they got wrong in DMC4.

To be fair when a core component of your game (the campaign) sucks absolute balls then yeah, a 6/10 is fair.

I say this as someone who LOVES DMC4. That campaign is awful, confusing and when I picked up SE I forgot nearly the entire campaign because of how mind-boggingly stupid and out of place everything is.

Bayonetta on the other hand reviewed very highly in part because the campaign and combat went so well together. I'm sure if DMC4 had a proper campaign that was interesting, fun, visually pretty to look at (a few areas are nice but the rest is just bland nonsense that makes no sense) and didn't have constant backtracking as an obvious method to prolong the game, DMC4 would have been much better received.

Going by how fun the new characters are and the attention to detail on them I really feel like DMC5
IT EXISTS
will address all the issues of DMC4 and DmC and throw in a few pleasant surprises to boot.

I for one welcome Dante vs Vergil Round 2. Now with 100% more Angst
Nero

Yeah, been playing through it a mission or so here and there since the past week, only like halfway through Nero/Dante campaign. A lot of the level design and pacing in this game is just plain bad. Which is not a problem that I had with DMC3SE when I played it last year. It's really showing why I would regularly play 3 over the years, but never reinstalled 4 onto my PS3.

Tell me about it. When that reboot was announced, I thought it was the end of the classic series. That would've been tragic.

At least the possibility of a DMC5 exists and I can't wait.

Weapons that are both melee weapons and firearms is definitely beginning to get into Bayonetta weapon-design territory, not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

Yeah, I expect more from Itsuno's team.

They should think outside the box more, like motorbike nunchucks more.

When the Nevan weapon was first teased people thought that it would have a firearm mode and a melee form all in one. Mostly because we had seen it is a Scythe and a guitar.

Rocket launcher tonfas aren't outside the box?

It's definitely true that Nevan and Lucifer are kinda-ranged kinda-melee Devil Arms, yeah.

TIL that you can counter Sanctus' Sparda charge with Beowulf's Lunar Phase. I know you can do it with Force Edge but assumed that was the only way because it didn't work when I tried with Yamato(Though I did only try it once.)

I think anything that's got a long/traveling hit duration works well, and Yamato just functions a little differently. It's not a qualitatively unusual/mechanically distinct move to parry, IIRC.

On your ps4, what is your RGB range set at if you don't mind me asking. Also, game modes are notorious for fucking up calibrations, often sharpness and brightness is set way too high. But yes I'm curious to see the pc version at its best.
I can check. I used reference guides when I first setup the PS4. All my TV modes are calibrated individually, have been for many years. This is the same display I have played through with Infamous SS, TLOU, and a few other PS4 titles. I especially felt that Infamous SS looks damn damn good, TLOU isn't bad for a remaster.

DMC4:SE is running at 60fps and is roughly 7.5 years old. The PC version down-sampled looks pretty damn good even today. Detail is preserved, motion blur is not needed, no anti-aliasing, and far more pixels. Vanilla was the same. When you compare that crisp of an image against the PS4 version, the PS4 version is going to look basically like a mess. Not only the image though, the game is less responsive on PS4 for sure, no question. And that mess of a controller.

I think I was able to counter it with Yamato's rapid slash, though I can't remember what specific timing I needed to get for it to work, as my first several attempts had failed. Though I stick with Force Edge DT Stinger simply because I like the idea of clashing two swords that are technically the same item but in different forms (and the one with sealed power beats it).

Well it's Friday again so time for some late night sessions.
Twitch.tv/bumblebeecody
you just wanna hit melee->style (trick) real fast during the sheathing-part of his judgement cut animation or something close to that anyhow.. the timing is both really precise and really bizarre as it doesn't quite 100% match up to the animation you're looking at in terms of successful chains

you can do it off the ground judgment cut but doing the weird floating one off the release->trick thing that gets crazy inertia lets you practice on the air timing immediately which is more relevant to getting them to chain

i keep getting it and losing it, it's really annoying. i kinda press it sliiightly after after the sheath flashes for his judgement cut and he starts putting it back in but it's still in a weird ass ballpark
Awesome cheers. This entire thing is goin completely over my head. Had help from others too.

Game is actually pretty set to run on most generic systems

If you haven't played a version of DMC4 at 4K (DS or not) with max settings, it will be difficult to understand the difference to the console versions. The difference is huge, a punch in the mouth.

That's because PS4 version has forced V-sync which means more input lag than normal.

I'm having trouble getting more than 5 loops of judgement cut. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lby-pHBY5A

The timing is so weird. It can be done continuously until out of trick range apparently, wonder what the max amount of loops would be until the vertical limit is reached.

EDIT: Getting more consistent https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXCbDLMJp1w

Is it possible to do these off of a perfect judgement cut? I swear I did once but then I haven't been able to replicate it.

Looks like Famitsu got an interview with Kobayashi at SDCC ?

Itsuno needs to have a meeting with Hayashi.

If I can't have Dante and Kagura trolling, I'll settle for Dante telling Ayane she's gonna have back problems.

I hope you guys know the director of NG:B was Hayashi. Itagaki was the producer. :p

These reactions, it's why I want it to happen
Also Hayashi worked with Miyamoto, you can't hate his hustle.

I know who Hayashi is.

But it's better that he remains as a "who?" character rather than a "that guy who made NG3" character.

Hayashi made Ninja Gaiden 3.

That alone is unforgivable.

I'm still quite convinced that the design choices of NG3 were a massive attempt to both break away from Itagaki's work and appeal to the west. Which obviously failed miserably. Razors edge showed me that they realized how badly they fucked up, and more importantly, where they fucked up. So I have hopes that NG4 will be good.

Like with Itagaki there is no objectivity. Razors edge has some of the best mook battling. If they had reallyt overhauled the game it would be been somehting special. It restored my faith too.

They're crazy.

Devil's Third looks like grade A donkey crap.

Of course they are insane. I'm just saying those shitting on Hayashi are equally as nuts. Perhaps it's the same people. :p
