Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold Demo Thread [Story mode only; can transfer to full game]

Atlus screwed up by not getting Michael McConnohie to return as Hoffman. I'm sure there's some other character he could've voiced.

I'll probably wait it out for the full game. Can't wait to play the remake of my first EO game though (and the only one I've beaten I'm embarrassed to say [I'm about halfway through the 5th stratum in EO4 I think]).

I'm going to download this and hopefully it'll help me decide if I want the full game. I would probably play classic mode first since I didn't like story that much in EOU.

I think this will be the first EO that I will play on Standard. The pre-made party for story mode is a hurdle itself imo. Still mulling it over...

Alright, I think this is the one dragging me back into the franchise. Grimrock last year dungeon crawlered me out for a while so I didn't grab Untold 1, but I'm really hankering for some now and II was the first EO title I played

the hotsprings DLC leaves a sour taste in my mouth with the developers, but its Japan only and I guess I'll swallow it

wait, the DLC is japan only?

This game seems way better than Untold 1, at least in the handling of the Classic mode and the fucking Grimoire stones.

I just started, time to check it out for a while even if I'm in the middle of playing Ar nosurge so I wanna go back to that and finish it before Untold 2 drops.

I thought I read that somewhere, but looking it up now I might be wrong

Just checked and it's actually FREE the week the game comes out.

Hidden Hot Springs!: Unlocks a hot-springs quest within the Third Stratum of the Yggrdrasil Labyrinth. Completing it will yield unique battle portraits for Arianna and Chloe. Free for a week, then $2.49 US / $3.50 Canadian.

Still, get the game. >__>

I'll never get tired of complaining about Nintendo's inane restrictions on demo software. Who else would even bother to implement technology like that?

Demo is fun but I should really finish EO4 or PQ one of these days.

Sigh, I wish they would let us start the game in Expert.

Edit: OH WAIT WE CAN, nvm.

I said we should go to Armoroad and then Flavio was a party pooper and said nope.

what's the MC's real name? I don't wanna name him after me or Fafnir

TRUE STORY: I'm a huge EO fan and I fucking loved the EO IV demo, played it all the way through twice before the real game came out. EO 1 is my favorite game in the series and I love Untold despite it's flaws, even Story Mode. I however, NEVER PLAYED THE DEMO.

Why?

I couldn't think of a good name for the Highlander!

Didn't have much to do today so I played though the demo, killed all the FOEs, got the best equipment for my party etc. Grimoires seem much more accessible in this than EOU, thankfully, so I might not just completely neglect them in this game.

Important to note: The cost of getting all of the announced DLC that isn't free for a week is a little under ten bucks. The total cost of all DLC is...20.40 US. The game is a 50 dollar game already, 60 with all the DLC. If you wait for the game to go down all the way to the rock bottom Atlus digital sale price and pick up all the DLC it'll cost you...35.40, though of course you'll miss out on the physical rewards. If buying physical its not uncommon to find EO Untold 1 and EO IV for 20, some even with the first print run stuff, though its not guaranteed by any means.

Arianna is way too cute, gdi Story mode.

Princess healing a bit when she casts an Order is great!

Story mode in EO Untold gets too much shit. It's hilarious. The only real problem is that if you've never played EO 1/didn't do classic mode first it ruins a legitimately great surprise in the first ten minutes.

Completed the demo. It was actually really good, and Fafnir seems like a really fun class once you pick up some skill point momentum. He works really well with Arianna, too, since she has Link Order and can keep him more sustainable with her force break. It's cool how you get a sense for how he works even early on, since Delay Chase > Transform + Wave > Blade Recoil is so good. Things also seem way more user-friendly, since icons now change contextually and items will highlight themselves if you need them for quests. It's definitely the most streamlined and robust game running on the Etrian engine right now, even if it's still missing some features from Persona Q.

I still don't really like English Arianna that much, which is a shame when she's one of the most talkative characters. I'm hoping I'll warm up to her, but those battle quotes ain't changing. I'm surprised by how good Chloe is, but that's Cherami Leigh for you.

Also, I should check my sources before posting stuff on the internet. I got a lot of facts wrong in the first post, when I was trying to correct Atlus USA's misinformation. Whoops. I'll get to fixing that tomorrow.

I'm still wondering why the game is $50. At least from the demo, there's barely any more voice acting than in Untold 1 and less than in Soul Hackers, both of which went for $40 and had similar first-print bonuses. If they're still blaming the price of higher-capacity carts to hold all of the audio, I don't see anything about Untold 2 that would require a bigger cartridge so far.

Aw man they spoiled the guildmaster reveal right at the start.

Story mode's fine so far. I like Fafnir's gimmick, he's a bit like Aegis in PQ. Also love all the QoL improvements, though I miss the undo button from PQ.

Crazy nostalgia already.

It's nice having a story.

Loving the interface enhancements. The last EO game I played was EO2 on DS.

I'm finding it easy. I picked the medium difficulty. I guess I should switch to the hardest one? Would that be EO2 original difficulty?

I'm really liking these new interface improvements like the even more detailed codex (though I'm not 100% how to read it) and even faster battle speed options.

They've made some significant changes to the dungeon layout as well, so I'm curious does the wolf help you out initially in Classic mode as well? Having that higher levelled character early who can not only heal but can take every hit really makes the intro easier.

Dialogue choices don't matter right? It's kinda annoying how the game forces you to manually select a line before you can move on.

I do not mind story mode just because it's story mode, I just think they are half assing it. It could be like other DRPGs in which you have set characters but they can actually change classes.

Also having exclusive content(not in Classic), a boring ass team composition, Grimoire stones fucking suck, post game is way too difficult with the set team if you're playing in Expert and there's not much you can do aside of grinding for crazy Grimoire stones... and the worst of all, the story in not that great and it's still better in Classic mode.

But I'm pretty happy so far with what I've seen of EO2U, even if I wish we had a Hexer... :(

While I would rather have an EO5, I enjoyed the demo and was considering buying the full game when it comes out - but the price reminded me that I bought the first Untold on sale over two years ago and never played it. (EO4 was about to be released and I didn't want to burn out on the series.)

I've played through the original EO twice, so I guess I'll check out Story Mode, even though I haven't heard much good about it.

Story mode is still fine, it's just not as good as Classic.

Funny thing is I agree with all your points, but one thing saved it for me. Post Apocalyptic Canada talk.

Also I had a moment of inspiration driving today and will name the MC of EO Untold 2...

Hah yeah, the only thing I liked about story mode in EOU was Raquna. Most of the dialogue was pretty uninteresting except the talk about maple syrup, poutine, ice wine, and Ontario.

All right, I'm in on this thread now! It finished downloading by this morning... I'm loving a lot of the little UI tweaks! Like, how the mapping icons change when the square under them changes state... and the neat thing is, it works with multiple icons, too, so you can still put a different icon other than the intended one on relevant squares, and it'll still work! e.g. a treasure box to mark a secret passage will display as "opened" once it's activated... The one thing I'm not really getting though, is the new "auto-walking" arrows; they seem kinda complicated compared to the ones in either IV or the first Untold... Also, I'm kinda disappointed I had to put this demo on a different SD card than my download copies of IV or Untold, as this means that they can't share that "Extra Data"... but I guess once I get the full version on a physical cartridge, that should fix that, right? I'll just have to use it with each SD card in turn...

God bless all my old friends/And god bless me too, why pretend?
I've 100% every Etrian game so far. Playing the demo here, it's already grabbed me so badly that I need to stop for today. If I don't, I'll finish the demo asap and then have to wait too long for my preordered copy to get here.

What the hell is it with this series. How does it grab me so? I love dungeon crawlers and play a ton of them but this one just hooks me in every right way.

Perfect.

Just finished up the demo and now I'm considering switching up the classes on the characters just to get an idea of what my party will be in the full game.

Also I just want to confirm, the only thing that is exclusive to story mode is the Fafnir class and that's really only a single character that you can transfer over? No items, no enemies/foes/bosses, nothing that would prevent a 100% completion like in Untold?

For me its the character progression. Combine dungeon crawling, which I'm already susceptible to, with what is honestly one of my favorite skill growth systems in any party based game ever, and I just get hooked

Hopefully there's more info in the manual, but from what I can tell, double circle means weak, circle means neutral, ∆ means resist, and × means immune.

Elements are same as usual, but then the ailments are in three groups: special (stun, instant death), normal (petrification, fear, curse, sleep, confusion, paralysis, poison, blindness), and binds (head, arm, leg).

I don't think Wulfgar joins in classic, though. I think he was there more to compensate for the party only having three people, none of whom have great defense.

Fafnir is literally the only thing, aside from the guild card medal for completing story mode.
