Can Rainbow Six: Seige save an entire genre? (on console)

A lot of you underestimate the draw of terrorist hunt. People love that mode and I think it'll sell half of whatever it does just because of that.
That is what i'm looking forfard to most. But i also think the vs matches can be really fun to actually play. I do hope you can customize a lot.
Not a fan of the heartbeat sensor stuff.
What else can you tell me about the future?
From now on everything will be downgraded and horrible.

Curious. I only played R6 and Rogue Spear (+ expansions). Back then, online on PC was almost strictly PvP.... Tango/Terrorist Hunt seems to have been something gained popularity during the move to consoles.

Anyways, the MP in Siege looks somewhat more tactical than your normal console shooter, but it's sad hearing what has happened to the single player part of the game. No friendly AI means no planning stages before missions and ordering your teammates around.

It had promise but no. It's not what most fans wanted. I think if you're going to deviate from the formula that a series is known for then you should just probably call it by another name.

ITT: People from the future talking about how objectively bad the game is.

Pre-order cancelled!

On topic: Depends entirely on how the full retail product plays and how well it's marketed.
Also, have they mentioned with certainty whether or not there will be dedicated servers? I can't seem to find anything concrete.

No I don't think so and personally I was hoping they would of stayed with what Patriots was trying to do as I found that to be much more interesting.

60FPS or no buy!! I'll probably get the PC version. Multiplayer only games tend to not sell very well on the consoles.

So a small slice of a game that hasn't released yet and is still being worked on? Got it.

The game comes out in 3 months....
What is nowadays called an alpha is more like a Beta, so I wouldnt say much will change.

Look at Evolve. The Evolve Alpha represented the final game pretty well.
I dont have a clue why people try to defend games they are keen on buying. Everytime there is an alpha/beta and the impressions are bad, people come and say "Its just an alpha/beta. Its not the final game. A lot of things will change."
Then the games comes out and it plays the same as the alpha/beta version...

If the final game is anything like the Alpha, it'll suck. It's another Titanfall/Evolve situation. Barebones content trying to pass for a full game, it just doesn't offer nearly enough to do. It's like a custom game type in CSGO or something. 4v4 only and one side barricaded themselves in and defends while the other side tears down the barricades and attacks, and there's only about 2 or 3 truly different ways of approaching a location.

It has been confirmed that the game will have a campaign, along with Terrorist Hunt. Think you can also play the MP maps vs. bots but without any AI teammates.

Seems to be richer in content than Titanfall and Evolve

It is 60fps on consoles.

I just got back from a week in Montreal playtesting the game and I can say it has improved a lot since the alpha. Slowed down movement speed, no hitmarkers, much better recoil.

There's still plenty of stuff they need to improve before release though. Heart beat sensor has been nerfed, but it's still not enough. Riot shield is too powerful, almost no downside to having one and you can be really hard to kill if you know what you are doing while still being able to kill the other team very safely.

Run and gun is not a viable strategy against anything slightly coordinated, but will probably work okay in public games where teamplay won't be great depending on the team you are facing.

There is some cool stuff coming to this game and I encourage you to keep an eye on it during gamescom at least.

The tactical nature of Siege seems completely half-baked. It will devolve into deathmatch most of the time just as it did in the beta.

Sadly we'll never get the old R6 back.

I think it is true that there is a hole for a hardcore tactical shooter on consoles right now, but I think it is insane to look to Ubisoft to fill that hole.

Played the very first R6 back in middle school. Few years later, I built my first PC just in time for R6: Raven Shield. Those were the days. Now we have this.. :p

They would have had to significantly change the gunplay from the PC version to work well with a controller.

The game was designed for consoles.

CROSS-PLATFORM PLAY CUT FROM COUNTER-STRIKE: GO
That was 5 months before launch. You might assume that this was done because Valve didn't want to alter the gunplay but that is not the case.
Over the course of the closed beta test of Global Offensive through Steam, Valve eventually realized the need to update each version of GO separately on each platform took priority over a system where PS3 and PC players could headshot each other with AKs. "The beta has proved we want to update not just the beta, but the game itself post-launch frequently on the PC," Faliszek told Joystiq. "To do that we need to separate the platforms so one doesn't hamstring the other."

It's clear that you don't understand the context of what's being argued.

No one's saying the game won't have changes between now and then. What was said is that what is typically referred to as an "alpha" isn't an unfinished game so much as a near-final product where what's left to be altered are gameplay tweaks and fixes. What you've posted doesn't disprove Chuck's point at all - most of the changes noted in that blog are glorified tweaks or bugfixes.

The problems people have with the game (no doors, no single-player squadmates, dulled-down tactical gameplay) aren't going to magically change in the next 3 months - they're already an ingrained part of the gameplay and design choice.

Same here. I miss those days. I get some of that joy from BF4 nowadays after all the patching, but it's not the same.

We'll get to try it in September...

I totally agree.. But if not this then what? Sony seems to have killed Socom when they killed Zipper :( what else do console gamers have to look forward too?

No I don't think so and personally I was hoping they would of stayed with what Patriots was trying to do as I found that to be much more interesting.

The interesting thing is that David Sears, creative director of Socom, was working on Rainbow Six Patriots. I really think if they didn't kill that game that it would have been our best bet for some tactical shooter glory on console :(

What, this game is multiplayer only?

So lame. I loved the campaigns in old R6 games. Rainbow Six Vegas was amazingly fun.

Completely lost all interest in the game

It also has a campaign and terrorist hunt.

Okay, people kept saying in this thread that it was multiplayer only.

If it has a decent campaign that feels anything like R6 Vegas, I'll buy it. I thought that game hit a real sweet spot of tactical yet accessible

I don't know, I think the game looks just as arcadey as anything else. Sure, you have to be smart with your life but the rounds are very short. It's still very "pick up and play".

Of course I haven't played the game but that's the impression I get.

In this day and age of remakes and remaster, how the hell didn't we get Rogue Spear? That's what the fans wanted, not this abomination called Siege.

NO, because I don't see how this is a full retail game complete with story mode. If this is another always online shooter then no thanks. I was hoping another game in the series could take it back to its roots but I was sorely mistaken as the hook of this game seems like, once again I passively followed the game, some 2015 geomod red faction mixed with with next gen hardware and a slight tactical aspect.

Does the genre need saving? Is this the beginning of an annualized franchise?

Well the genre DEFINITELY needs saving on consoles. There is literally nothing for me on my ps4 right now. If i could afford it I would get myself a PC and go there.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

They've already said it has offline single player...

Is there a story mode? Offline single player does not mean there's a story mode so that is a legit question.

Their blogs make it sound similar to the old school rainbow sixes

Narrative appears to feature the lovely Angela Bassett going by their e3 story trailer

The problem with Siege is that the game isn`t a tactical shooter at all. When I first saw the E3 gameplay with the developers, I was quite happy because I thought they were going back to the roots of the old games. But the game doesn`t play out like that at all. The E3 gameplay was scriptet as hell, and people doesn`t play like that at all. When people spawn, they go their own way, just like in Call of Duty. The game also feels like Call of Duty. It`s VERY fast paced. The game even provides you with a wallhack tool. And there are no doors. Not a single door.
