Nintendo recognising their future isn't in expanding their userbase anymore, but flaying the skin of their diehard loyalists.

Really get that flesh peeling.

Because you can't do both, right? I must have missed the news that Nintendo have shuttered all their hardware and software departments and have all their staff printing trading cards full time.

Will QA for food.
If they stick to $3CAD for the 3 packs, I'll be okay with it. I'll pick up a few, my friends will pick up a few and we can do card exchanges. Definitely not collecting them all though, that'd be insanity.

They are desperate for money. If their consumer base is up for that, this is fine. Nintendo fans should just be reluctant now when they criticise other companies for their DLC policies.

So is the game atleast F2P or they charging for that as well?

The 3DS game is full priced, the Wii U game is free.

Would you really want all of them? I'd trade away the sheep for example.

If you only wanted any 50 out of the 100, you'd average 23 packs. Of course, no one would want "any" 50, they'd want specific cards. If you only wanted a specific 50 out of the 100, you'd average 148 packs. Say you only wanted a specific 10 out of the 100 (surely this is easy), you'd still average 97 packs. So this choosy strategy is not going to save you money except through resale. Do not play this if you want specific characters. That is a fool's errand

Oh, also, all these stats are calculated assuming there's an equal probability of each card being included. If some are rarer than others, the numbers go UP, not down.

If they are $5-$6 then I think that's okay. Although I feel it should be 6 cards for $10 just for convenience sake of not having to buy multiple packs.

I'm actually okay with blind packs considering there's 100 cards, but not when they're in packs of 3.... LOL. Unless these packs are $2 tops this is silly.

Again, the 3DS game does not actually gain anything from these cards. It just side-steps RNG to let you design a specific villager's house. Like standard AC, you'd get them sooner or later anyway.

This isn't even standard Amiibo DLC, there's no DLC even here.

Whoever thought that these were going to be easy and cheap to get the complete set are obviously new to collectible trading cards and amiibo. Honestly I think the price is fine. If the game sucks unless you have 20 unique amiibo or something, then I will call bullshit.

3 cards per pack? Only? Nintendo needs to make profit somehow, I guess.

I bet these will be priced like standard card packs that have more cards. What a joke.

Assuming they're in stores for a long time, and are decently priced, you can just pick up a pack every so often (if you're not a collector after them all). The game is a full game without them, you don't need them, so just consider them a fun extra.

We still haven't hear anything officially regarding the Wii U game bring free. I still don't believe it will be - they would have said so when they announced the game and not to random people at the show floor

Does HHD have a "refresh villagers" function though? In a normal AC game it could take actual months of realtime to fully rotate villagers and you only get 10. I hope this game is way way different in that regard.

You can trade the cards you don't want for cards you do.

I think these cards might unlock the Villager costume on Mario Kart 8

For that costume, the menu actually says "Scan an Animal Crossing" Amiibo, not being specific to just Villager (and the picture shows Isabelle and Villager).

Which for people who collect MK costumes, this might be the easiest way to get this costume.

I don't think there's a limit to villagers, as there's no real village to explore. The only explorable bit is the city where you work, and you access villager's houses through menus. There seems to be a load of jobs to assign people to, so a limit would seem silly too.

Blind packs, even, to ensure people keep buying them. Nice.

Yeah, I would be mad about this but seeing how many people spend $2.50 to unlock a crate that contains a 10 cent skin, I think its fine (Counter Strike). As long as card packs are readily available and some cards aren't super rare.

You better believe that full sets will sell a lot on eBay though. Just have to figure out if it will be highly valued just now or if it will increase in value later.

Been discussed in the UK amibo thread, here is a link to the product page on Argos. Priced at £9.99, not sure if it is the 3 pack or another variant.

£20.. Must be a mistake

I wonder if they'll be sold with whole sets per case to retailers, or fully blind with ultra rare ones distributed in only a few boxes.

If they come in boxes with eg 3 full sets then people can buy boxes and sell full sets

From what I've read, some characters are locked behind Amiibo cards (KK Slider). Another instance of on-disc DLC, similar to Splatoon?

300 yen is less than 3 bucks here. Hope the price is similar in the states.
Unlike the toys, I don't feel compelled to collect these. I think 3 3 packs at 3 bucks each (about 10 bucks) would be fine for me if I wanted to play the game

I've not heard of that, all I've heard is the RNG side-step. Everything else was said to be available just random.

Perhaps it the "special" Villagers? In which case, it ends up being like Splatoon.

That's a minimum of 34 packs to get a full set. More due to the fact there's 17 special cards in the set and you're guaranteed one in each pack. In Japan, it's 300 Yen a pack meaning it'd be 10200 Yen which is ~£52

That's assuming no doubles whatsoever

That's... not entirely terrible, though I'm going to have nobody to trade with, I'm sure.
