I'd buy all of the listed ones. You know you would too. You are telling me you wouldn't but one of Harley in her super suit?

Lyingcat.jpg

The B&W Bruce Timm Harley is still the only one of those I own. The B&W statues are a bit too small to justify the pricing, IMO.

Charlie Manx is probably the creepiest King family protagonist since Pennywise. Sure, Hill probably drew his inspiration of the character from his dad, but I think the description of Manx and how he exploits children and Christmas is way scarier. That perversion of the holiday is frightening.

when should we do this Hawkeye reading club

I'm thinking about just starting it on August 11th because
1. That's my birthday and the fourth volume releases that day :)blessed:)
2. It will take some time to even get to the fourth volume going at 1 issue a day
3. I'm not waiting for OHC/Omnibus readers

You don't want to limit your participants. You don't want your book club ending up like the stray bullets one.

I've seen what you pay for small figures. Girl you crazy.

I don't buy as many these days. I'm kind of easing away from the animu stuff and sticking mostly to Kotobukiya bishoujos. They're easily the best value for the money.

Prez is not at all as advertised, and that's a good thing.

Didn't read #2 yet, it's the last book from today's haul that I haven't read. I'll get to it before bed.

We'll be waiting for another four months or so for the omnibus and I don't even know when the second OHC is coming out

Omnibus in Nov. OHC v2 in Dec.

I am in for the book club. #1-#21 are already on MU. I'll just buy #22 off comixology or something. If it happens this month, maybe all those people who jumped in on the 1 penny trial will also be interested.

Forgot about MU, that is definitely an option for many readers.

I'd like to wait until ~at least~ the fourth trade comes out. And I figure we could probably do it according to how the trades organize the issues (so all the Kate issues in volume 3 will be back to back for example) to avoid confusion among those reading the trades.

Well, I'll be waiting for the omnibus because I can't be bothered to pull out the floppies, but at least with this reader club thing I can pretend like I read along.

Guys i'm working on a pretty cool Kabuki post. Give me a minute. I'm actually putting effort into a post for a change!

Is it a post or a thread? If it's a thread exactly 5 people from the OT will give a shit.

Slaven
Myself
Kap
NTGYK
Sou Da

And the rest will say the art blows. Don't do it to yourself.

silly zombeen i don't create threads. This is for comicGaf. The people that'd give a damn about the comic book medium as a whole and know its more than a vehicle to push out the latest disposable movie to fuel their bizarre corporate battle

About 4 to 5 years ago, I may or may not have picked out a volume of Kabuki while browsing the shelves at the library. I may or may not have glanced at the art and put the book back on the shelf.

Grayson continues to be my second favorite DC book going right now. I think Mikel Janin may have surpassed Greg Capullo as my favorite DC artist. Especially on digital, his stuff just POPs! The story continues to be smart and mysterious.

Cyborg #1 was solid. The parts with him were fantastic but the parts with the villain set up were spotty. Ivan Reis and Joe Prado....nuff said.

We Are Robin was fun. Really love the teenage Gotham universe these creative teams are coming up with this and Gotham Acedemy. It's only 2 issues in so its hard to comment on where the story is going when they only have 50 pages to set up a team of characters and what they are fighting for. I really enjoy the art.

Yeah, the artwork on Grayson is just ridiculously crisp and clean. And the colors are vibrant.

You're the diehard death stroke fan right? How is the current series.

I have no idea how it was advertised, but it's one of my favorite books.

Also, holy shit @ Spider-Woman #9. I was already on board with this series, but #9 was a jaw-dropping showcase for Javier Rodriguez. I want that guy to draw everything.

It's funny that you mention that. I was reading it today on my tablet and was constantly thinking "man this would look a lot better on print".

OK comicGaf i'd like to take some time and put effort into a post for a change. I'm here to tell you about one of my passion comics. Like JC has his Stray Bullets, Karrupt with Doom Patrol, Kipp with Hellboy, Messi with Sunstone etc. One that is near and dear to my heart is Kabuki.

It all started in the late 90s, early 2000s when I was a regular of the IGN comic boards, and there was a great community at the time that would recommend great comics that were beyond just what Wizard, or the popular big 2 comics would provide. This is how i was exposed to things like Hellboy, Planetary, Powers, Strangers in Paradise, etc. It was a great and amazing eye opening experience of comics beyond my limited Batman & X-men focused reading.

Then one book came along that really hit a chord with me, and that was David Mack's Kabuki series. In it it focuses on a group of female pop sensations in a near future Japan who all wear Kabuki masks and also secretly are deadly assassins. On the surface it sounds like a very silly premise, but its the execution, the sincerity, and more importantly the creative fusion of art & story that make it really stand out. The first volume was black & white and from what I've read it was a college project that David Mack did. In it he wanted to tell a story that focused on his interests of Japan and his art. I would say that of all the volumes he writes & draws its the most standard comic of them all. Very excellent and has a full arc from start to finish. Really the story could have ended with Vol 1 but has threads for more if it could gain traction. And forutunatly it did. In the later volumes starting with Vol 2, he started to expand the form of storytelling and beging to fuse a number of different artistic styles together. Each new page would throw something new, sketches, oragami shapes, water colors, etc. Then he'd start embedding the dialog and words within the art. A seamless fusion of story & art that only comics could provide. Its also something i haven't seen since.

I'm sure more are familiar with his work on Alias covers, or his run on Daredevil. He was good friends with Bendis back in the day when they were both rising up in the indie scene.

I say all this as this one Indy comic has moved publishers over the years. At one time i believe it was Image, then moved to Marvel's Icon imprint, and now with Dark Horse. And the one thing Dark Horse does better than anyone are the library editions and we have the privilege to experience this series in the wonderful library editions. My copy came in from IST last week and I couldn't be happier. Bellow are some of the samplings of the first volume.

http://www.instocktrades.com/TP/Dark-Horse/KABUKI-LIBRARY-HC-VOL-01-(C-0-1-2)/MAR150017

Only $23!! and contains the first two volumes of the series. Everyone please give this book a chance. Its one of a kind and worthy of being on everyone's comic book shelf.

Agree with most of this, other than the Capullo remark; Janin is great at the trippy Spyral stuff, but his face game is pretty weak. Capullo is stronger on average, methinks.

Also very glad to see that somebody else is reading We are Robin in here, lol. I think it's off to a great start, and I'm hugely looking forward to the Robin War.

Hey guys, I got a question that I hope someone can answer. I've been reading Gail Simone's Batgirl run (on vol. 2 right now) and just wanted to know if the Batman Night of the Owls book is what happens between Batgirl #s 9 & 10. Was totally confused how shit started to hit the fan and was then suddenly ditched >.>

Haha. That's what makes the Internet great. When you find a good community they can open up,doors in your hobby that people didn't know existed. It's fun stuff.

I have opened the Sunstone door for many people. What if Freeza had never sent me that pm. What if she kept all the bdsm Hijinks to herself?

The horror.

But yeah, Night of Owls happens between those issues. You'd have to read the Batman issues to find out what happens, but honestly, it's not worth it if you're not planning on reading Batman. Batfamily tie-ins are typically the worst shoe-horned nonsense. It ends up fragmenting what would otherwise be somewhat decent runs like Batgirl.

Yeah you should read Scott Snyders Batman run. It's amazing.

Gail's batgirl was fine. There is nothing terrible about it other than some questionable art at times. It just never reaches the heights it should have. You can tell she wanted to do something different but she was stuck by editorial (which she has spoken about after, she wanted to do a more fun batgirl but they wanted what she wrote). It has an amazing annual #2 and then an amazing futures end issue.

I just read this weeks, I'm really liking it too. I'm glad they're not being too obnoxious with the teen speak stuff. The preview had me worried, but the books'e been much better with it. I love all the Robin designs.

I think the run was decent, but my main issue was the same as with every Batfamily book - those lame ass tie-ins. They get in the way of ongoing arcs to add in some stupid one-off that doesn't even have a legitimate conclusion and makes no sense in the ongoing narrative.

Oh yeah, the costumes are great. Don' really like tonfa guy (can't remember his name), but the others are fantastic, especially the football player.

I agree 100% but one small thing those tie ins in Batgirl gave us
Strix, who is amazing and Gail continues to write her in secret six.
. But usually fuck tie ins.

gketter, we have very similar tastes, so I pretty much trust anything you suggest. Posting those pictures though just pushed me over the edge. Definitely ordering this next week when I place another order. I wish IST allowed you to edit your current order if it hasn't been picked and scanned yet.

Awesome to hear! I've had good luck emailing IST directly and swapping things out. Granted this is when it was similar costs.

I don't remember or know much about
Strix
, so I'll bow to your knowledge on the subject. I'm just glad that Batwoman managed to stay out of that bullshit for as long as it did.
