Tom Clancy's The Division E3 Wrap Up Video

Which is perfectly fine, it's just one part of the game and you enver have to engage in any PvP.
I know tons of people who are hella scared about other people and PvP in games and I myself play the game for 90% of co-op and maybe 10% of PvP.
The friend i'll play this game with will pretty much rage and quit the game once we get to the PvP aspect anyway XD
Yeah I'm fine with the idea of that stuff not being for me, hopefully the other content is solid.

I'm still a little unsure of what the 'hook' for The Division is going to be. Sure it's essentially a loot grinding game but what are the incentives to get better and better loot? It's a Clancy game and while it does veer a little of the ultra realism path I doubt it's going to have anything like boss fights on the scale of a Diablo or even a Borderlands. How is even the campaign going to be handled in a persistent or shared world setting and will you be able to playthrough it again at a more challenging level? Lot's of questions that are short on answers but something I'm keeping a firm eye on and hey there's a beta to at least get a brief glimpse of some of the games systems. The complaints about a lack of melee are a bit worrying though as it sounds like up close you just get into a shoving match like a bunch of school kids.
In one of their E3 interviews they talked about the game being basically three different parts. There is the main campaign, the PVP, and then the end game. They haven't started talking about the end game yet, but he did say that it is a massive portion of the game. I think I remember the guy hinting at end game being the focus of Gamescom while PVP was the focus of E3.

Every time I see more of this game it looks more and more like what I was expecting out of Destiny. Anticipation of this game and the fact that Ubi actually delivers on open worlds and the amount of content in their games has completely killed my desire for the upcoming Destiny content.

But still hate the huge drop in graphic fidelity.
Original reveal was a tiny-street area that was meticulously crafted for the show, the complete game world having the same level of polish would require a 10 year dev-cycle.

Mechanics like this would be a big NO BUY from me. Im using all my time to beef up my character to lose it after one death. I would throw that game in the trash.

It definitely is a bold move though and it changes what the game is about. You still have some outs what with the hospital mechanic. Or even have life insurance in place etc for your digital character (not by way of real currency- DONT READ THIS CAPCOM!)

I would applaud a dev if they elected to do it. I think a game like The Division with such a mechanic would be a hit.

The game is the same graphical fidelity now as proof of concept from 2013. The difference is the initial reveal was done on PC and the playable piece at E3 this year was running live on Xbox One. I played the game both in private and in public and ive been to all the reveals for the title. If you have specific questions you can ask me here or on the official forums.

I run www.divisionblog.com if anyone is interested. I cover Division, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell.

I guess my most specific question would be:

What is the typical "game flow" after starting up the game?
Say, me and my two friends bought the game. We're through the standard prologue/tutorial phase and have now entered "the game proper".
What would a normal 1 hour session of us playing together look like? (excluding dark zones, which we have seen)

Remember that the main developer is still Massive Entertainment, which did World in Conflict on PC. There are other Ubisoft studios aiding, but this is mostly ME's baby. So I wouldn't discount it too soon just because Ubisoft owns them.

This shit looks basic and boring as fuck, what's new and interesting? Hide behind cover against bullet-sponge enemies, sounds like a great time.

What's the hook, what's the selling point, beyond what I can obviously ascertain for myself from watching 30 seconds of gameplay? Is this just third-person Destiny? Excuse me while I try to think of something more lame.

Well, to be fair, Destiny has pretty great shooting.

The only game that coming out soon that makes me want to build a PC so badly. I wonder if they will have character transfers from console to console and console to pc.

Well, have you played online strategy games before? Even MOBA's like DOTA, you don't kill an enemy fast, this isn't Call of Duty or Battlefield. Youre supposed to use tactics rather than shoot on sight or run for cover.

There is absolutely a campaign aspect and PVE to the title. You can play with up to four people in a squad that is drop-in drop-out. There will also be matchmaking if you dont have any friends who pick up the title on day 1.

Division is more like Borderlands than it is anything else. There is skill trees with upgradeable skills as well as five different qualities of loot ranging from common to legendary. "Loot" is very rare in that you wont receive a loot drop for everything you kill. So there is an element of collectibility if you will in that you might have to horde something early for later in the game, which you can store at your Base of Operations.

Base of Operations are unlocked by completing tasks within the campaign of the game. When you extract a piece of gear, this is where you will go to pick it up. There are multiple Bases of Operation through out the city each with their own plot line and plot ties.

If they didnt take it out, for whatever reason, if you have two Base of Operations or more, supply lines between each Base of Operations will be created. Again, this was from 2-3 years ago when the game was first revealed. The game has been in development for close to five years so things can change due to balance issues, such as the melee mechanic.

So to answer your question a little bit better, there is a ton of content to do with your friends between loot hording, gearing up, changing skills to fit the needs of your party (Division is a classless game which means you can respec your skills at any time, which helps if youre playing by yourself.), opening Base of Operations, PVP and PVE.

Alot of the "Story" portion has not been revealed to the public yet and I cannot speak on behalf of that as I am under NDA.

Oohh nice, I'll have to look for that later on. Plus Gamescom is only a couple of weeks away so fingers crossed there's some good new info too. Cheers.

I loved destiny and been excited for the division from the reveal, still confused by how all the game modes work , but one thing it has done is make me want to explore.

It's what I wanted destiny to be, large open world with lots of exploration. Sadly destiny had hardly any of that but it did have amazing weapon handling.

Really hope they deliver an excellent story , and curious if there are any raid like endgames which most would say is the best part of destiny.

Ok, just give me a basic example of something I would do once I log in.

So,I spawn in a base of operations. And then?
Are there quest givers? So say a quest "go to the school" and then I go there and we do the quest?
Can I just free roam and find random events?

Also for those who might ask, yes there are buildings you can enter, and yes there absolutely is verticality. I went to the top of a three story building in the playable demo and rained hell down on people below me. I was the only person that I know of that extracted with a full 300S Rogue status timer during E3. The dev who was with me had his hands on his head and was like "Holy shit, I cant believe you did that."

Here is my lengthy hands on impressions:

Yes to everything. Lol.

He also has a seeker mine controlled by a smart phone.

Asshole-based multiplayer. Douchebags will flock to this game's betrayal features like never before.

But history has shown that betrayal and paranoia-based multiplayer games don't have legs.

PvP only works in Dark Areas which are areas you have to willingly enter

But State of Decay is one of the best games I've played in a long time :p.

Love it!

I hope that the multiplayer State of Decay is absolutely like that. The idea of building a base with a group of real people and NPCs that you can switch to...but die permanently if you're killed, going out scavenging, defending it, exploring...sounds amazing.

Games like this, and I'm not saying The Division is going to pull it off right, if done right can create a real feeling of doom and survival.

The Divsion may be NOTHING like that.

it is nothing like that.
death means basically nothing apart from "you dropped your contaminated items in a hot zone". Technically you could go into a dark zone, never pick up an item and just kill people. You would never lose anything.

Figured it wasn't anything like that, lol. The average player would probably drop the game the second they realized it had perma-death/loss of major things.

Not necessarily. :)

Hm. Well I am sure you can't lose your bound to you items.
Maybe you lose XP? That would be weird though and not very "2016".

There is alot that hasnt been revealed yet to the public about Rogue status and how it effects your character both in and out of the Dark Zone.

I think alot of people will respect that the transition between Campaign and MP is seamless. Once you drop over the wall or walk inside the air lock youre in MP. There's no menu switching, no loading screens, nothing.

What do you even do in this game?

.

You teach math to children, preparing them for the tough economy out there and enhancing their scientific minds. The last boss of math class is literally called "The Division" and when you kill him he says "You know, player, we really ARE the Division".

With "MP" you mean the Dark Zone pvp, right? You can play outside of that with other people, correct?

Yes, you can play with people inside and outside of the Dark Zone.

I was in the booth when they showed that presentation to Hideo Kojima. He was really hyped for the game last year.

Yup. :)

Has there been any talk about trading loot? I'm assuming once you escape a dark zone you can divide up the contaminated loot, or is everything instanced for you? So everyone loots the same military crate individually? I watched that twitch Q&A and never heard it come up.

So, I just remembered that this game will most likely use Uplay... Any chance they put Clan management in-game or are we doomed to have to use a Battlelog/Bungie.net etc... Type of system?

Well that seems promising. Second screen stuff can be cool but it's always a pain in the ass to be forced to use a second screen of some kind to manage features. Especially features that would be more convienently handled in game. I mean, my console setup is next to my pc and I hate having to bounce between them. I can't imagine how awful it is for people whose pcs are in another room entirely.

Ghost Recon Wildlands kinda stole this games lunch, to me. I was real excited for it when I first saw it, but seeing pretty much the same thing since then has kinda dulled my excitement.

If GR has loot, I probably won't be getting The Division.

LMAO! Pre-order confirmed!

Well that sounds promising, but what about that loot question? Haha

Loot is personal in The Division. Drops you get wont show up to other people, other than when you place it in your contaminated loot inventory that shows up as a yellow biohazard tube on your back. People will know you have something but they wont know exactly what it is. That is where the cat-an-mouse game of PVP comes into play. Do I kill you to see what you have or do I let you extract it?

However, when you are killed in PVP and an item drops, it appears to everyone. They can see what it is and what rarity it is (based on colored orb drop). Thats where things get really hectic and a game of hot potatoe begins because if its orange, everyone is going to want it and try to get it.

What's this contaminated loot stuff? Only stuff that drops in the dark zones?

Why would I let anyone extract it?
