Witcher 3 Gets New Game+ Mode as Final Free DLC

Ugh, I'm halfway through Velen on my second playthrough. I wish they had announced this sooner. Regardless, I'm glad they added it to the game. I'm just a couple gwent trophies and the idiotic headshot challenge for the plat.

New Game Plus is considered "free DLC" these days?

That's actually kind of sad.

The gaming community is just insufferable sometimes.

Its something that wasn't in the game at launch, whatever the reason. They listened to feedback from fans who have been asking for it, and decided that the final DLC they would give the fans what they wanted, instead of another new outfit for an NPC. I don't understand how even fan friendly decisions like this can be seen as a bad thing.

I get that the shitty DLC business models of every other developer may have soured you on DLC as a whole, I feel the same way, but the way CDPR is doing DLC for this game is not a bad thing. Sure it may be a marketing thing to say there are 16 free DLCs with most of them just new outfits, but at least its something. Also the patches for the most part have added a lot and addressed the big requests from the community.

This is some good shit man. You can lower your defenses on this one.

It's ridiculous that ppl are hung up on them calling it free DLC

If they simply said that they're just patching in ng+ which is what is essentially happening, no one would see that as some kind of detriment

Ppl really need to pull their head out their rear end

That'll be the 16th free "DLC".

Free is nice and I'm thankful, but why call it DLC and have people download it separately? Why not just patch it in for everybody?

Wait, I'm sure this has been said, but...New Game +...free dlc? Seriously? I mean...I guess, gee thanks for not putting it behind a paywall...

Because it's part of their evil marketing ploy that gives everyone free quests and skins in order to gain positive attention. Horrible, I know.

Great job CDPR - right in time for me to fire up my second playthrough.

I'm not embarrassing myself in the slightest.

Anybody complaining about the amount of content that shipped with Witcher 3 is absolutely embarrassing him/herself. The fact that you don't feel embarrassed is surprising exactly no one.

What complete pieces of shit these guys are for adding in cool new stuff after the fact and not charging people for it, amirite?

What DaS2SotfS did right was replacing enemies and items. Fighting harder and much different enemies at the beginning of the game is neat to me. I'd like that feature in a lot of games.

I was going to wait for the expansion, but this is very interesting. I wanted to keep playing it, but DA:I had me at finishing it and moving on.

Um... how? This is a delightful and FREE addition to what I believe to be the game of the year by a developer that has commited to, and seen fit to give us weekly FREE content since release all the while preparing expansions nearly as large as the entirety of The Witcher 2.

What's remotely sad about that?

Some of the replies in this thread are absolutely ridiculous.

How anyone can find fault in giving people free extra stuff that everybody can access just makes me scratch my head.

On my second playthrough of this wonderful game and will defo do a third with NG+.

Cant wait for the expansions aswell. Thank you CD Project Red

I kind of figured NG+ would pose some technical challenges in a world this large, which was why it wasn't in the game to start with. But maybe some of the critically-acclaimed open-world game developers here in this thread have the inside scoop.

It's been a great run with W3 DLC, imo.

I'm already a good ways into my second playthrough (Death March this time), so I won't be checking this out any time soon, but I'll hang onto a good save.

Coming from their previous titles, this seems like a feature that they are only including because people asked for it (I'm not even sure if it is actually going to work that well here). So the idea of them having it done and keeping it locked away from the consumer until now seems ridiculous to say the least.

It's kind of silly, in retrospect.

Whats silly about it? They said upfront that it wasn't going to be anything substantial, just small bits of content.

They've added 5 quests, 5 cosmetic options, 4 armor/weapon sets, and new finishers. By comparison, Bioware wants you to pay $10 for 5 weapons, 2 mounts, a skin for your throne, and a digital soundtrack. The 5 quests added to Witcher are ~2-3hours, WB is asking $7 for their Batgirl DLC that is 45minutes long and 3x skin packs in MKX are $4 each. They could easily have parceled this stuff out for an extra $20-30.. instead it costs $0.

I hope most signposts stay unlocked (when coming to Velen/Skellige for the first time) although I doubt it. Grayed out choices would be nice too.

I'd be happy with:
-weapons
-armors
-bombs
-potions
-decoctions
-oil
-character points
-whole inventory without quest items

I'm happy that they're including NG+ but I have to say I'm not at all impressed with the free DLC so far. It appears to me as if it's just content they removed from the game so that they could keep a promise and actually charge for what WAS going to be free DLC. It really is telling when you come across a door that you couldn't open or a village with no NPCs and 'suddenly' we have DLC for that.

Every free DLC could have easily been in the game day one, all the extra missions barely took 10 minutes of your time. The game is good but it's funny how people are praising CDPR for doing this.

The only way I would entertain a New Game+ play through is if they have a Borderlands 2 approach ala 'Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode' where you keep everything but enemy and recommended quest levels are much higher.

I'm certainly glad I never fell for this "free DLC" campaign of theirs.

What is there to "fall for"? They said before the game was out that the free DLC additions were going to be small things and the big expansions would cost money.

Any word on when the new marketing campaign is coming out? I would presume next week, I'll make sure to have AdBlock off so I don't miss the announcement.

People praising New Game Plus free DLC

What has this industry become

I'm sorry, I have no idea what your point is.

Should they not have taken the time to do a new game plus? Because they didn't have to.

Or is your point that it should have released with the game? If that's your point, I would ask, what has the consumer become? The game already had dozens and dozens of hours worth of content! I'd say compared to what you get for 60 bucks From other developers/publishers, CDPR is nailing it.

I'm with you, there's nothing to fall for but c'mon the gushing over the free DLC practice is ridiculous. Have you seen the description of one of their DLC quests?

Where the Cat and Wolf Play.
They say it's about quality, not quantity. Today, CD Projekt RED gives us one of the biggest pieces of DLC yet.
It's a new quest titled Where The Cat and Wolf Play - in which you'll explore a forgotten village and discover its terrifying secret. Find out who or what slaughtered its inhabitants and use all your witcher skills to confront this mysterious force.

Shit took a couple of minutes to do for me, and that's their biggest piece of DLC according to them.

The game is huge yes, but adding tidbits that could have easily been in the main game from the get go is just rubbing some of us the wrong way.

I mean every time they release a new Hero in Dota2 and new features I guess they should call it Free DLC too instead of patches...
